In today's episode you will learn essential shopping phrases in Greek. Emily will pretend to be the customer and Danae the person working at the clothing store.D: Καλημέρα σας, πώς μπορώ να σας βοηθήσω; / Good morning, how can I help you?E: Καλημέρα, ψάχνω για ένα βραδινό φόρεμα. Που τα έχετε; / Good morning, I'm looking for an evening dress. Where do you have them? D: Ναι βεβαίως, ελάτε μαζί μου… (pause) εδώ θα βρείτε τα βραδινά μας φορέματα. Σε τι χρώμα θέλετε; / Yes, of course, come with me… (pause) here you will find our evening dresses. What color are you looking for?E: Θέλω να δω κάτι σε κίτρινο ή εκρού. Θέλω κάτι ανοιχτόχρωμο. / I’d like to see something in yellow or ecru. I want something light-colored.D: Ναι τώρα το καλοκαίρι τα ανοιχτόχρωμα είναι ο,τι πρέπει. Πώς σας φαίνεται αυτό; / Yes, now in the summer, light colors are just perfect. How do you like this one?E: Μου αρέσει πολύ, τι νούμερο είναι; / I really like it, what size is it?D: Αυτό είναι σε small αλλά έχουμε και medium αν θέλετε. / This one is a small, but we also have a medium if you’d like.E: Νομίζω το small είναι καλό. Που μπορώ να το δοκιμάσω; / I think the small is fine. Where can I try it on?D: Το δοκιμαστήριο είναι από εδώ, ελάτε μαζί μου. / The fitting room is this way, come with me. E: Ευχαριστώ…. / Thank you…D: Πώς σας είναι; / How is it?E: Αχ δεν μου κάνει το small, είναι πολύ στενό και λίγο κοντό. / Oh, the small doesn’t fit, it’s too tight and a bit short.D: Θα σας φέρω το medium τότε… (pause) Πώς είναι αυτό; /  I’ll bring you the medium then… (pause) How is this one?E: Αχ μου είναι τέλειο. Μου πάει πιστεύετε; / Oh, it’s perfect on me. Do you think it suits me?D: Σας πάει πάρα πολύ! / It suits you very much!E: Ευχαριστώ, νομίζω θα το πάρω. / Thank you, I think I’ll take it.D: Είναι πολύ ωραίο και σας δείχνει κομψή. /  It’s very nice and it makes you look elegant.E: Σε ευχαριστώ για την βοήθειά σου. Μπορώ να πληρώσω με μετρητά; / Thank you for your help. In today's episode we will talk about the 1st of May in Greece. Emily will first engage in a conversation with Danae, about May 1st and then will explain the significance of this day for Greece.E:Δανάη, να σε ρωτήσω. Η Πρωτομαγιά είναι πράγματι μια ιδιαίτερη μέρα για την Ελλάδα; /Danae, can I ask you something? Is May Day really a special day in Greece?D:Σωστά! Η 1η Μαΐου ή Πρωτομαγιά, έχει διπλή σημασία στην Ελλάδα. Είναι η γιορτή της άνοιξης αλλά και ημέρα αφιερωμένη στα δικαιώματα των εργατών. /That’s right! May 1st, or “Protomagia,” has a double meaning in Greece. It’s a celebration of spring, but also a day dedicated to workers' rights.E:Ας ξεκινήσουμε με τον παραδοσιακό εορτασμό. Τι κάνετε συνήθως εκείνη την ημέρα; /Let’s start with the traditional celebration. What do you usually do on that day?D:Συνήθως πηγαίνουμε εκδρομές στην εξοχή ή στη θάλασσα με οικογένεια και φίλους. Κάνουμε πικνίκ ή πηγαίνουμε σε κάποια ταβέρνα για φαγητό. /We usually go on trips to the countryside or to the sea with family and friends. We have picnics or go to a taverna for food.E:Πολύ ωραίο ακούγεται! Και έχω ακούσει κάτι για λουλουδένια στεφάνια; /That sounds lovely! And I’ve heard something about flower wreaths?D:Ναι! Ένα από τα πιο γνωστά έθιμα είναι να φτιάχνουμε στεφάνια από λουλούδια και αρωματικά φυτά. Αυτά τα στεφάνια τα κρεμάμε στις πόρτες των σπιτιών για καλή τύχη και συμβολίζουν τον ερχομό της άνοιξης. /Yes! One of the most well-known customs is making wreaths out of flowers and aromatic plants. We hang these wreaths on the doors of our houses for good luck, and they symbolize the arrival of spring.E:Μου θυμίζει αρχαίες ελληνικές παραδόσεις! /It reminds me of ancient Greek traditions!D:Πολύ σωστά! Η Πρωτομαγιά έχει ρίζες στην αρχαιότητα, όταν οι άνθρωποι λάτρευαν τη φύση και γιόρταζαν τη ζωή και την άνοιξη. /Exactly! May Day has roots in antiquity, when people worshipped nature and celebrated life and spring.E:Κατάλαβα. Και σχετικά με τα δικαιώματα των εργατών που είπες πριν; /I see. And what about the workers’ rights you mentioned earlier?D:Η 1η Μαΐου, όπως και σε πολλές άλλες χώρες, είναι επίσης γνωστή και ως Εργατική Πρωτομαγιά και είναι μέρα που χρησιμοποιείται για να τιμήσουμε τα δικαιώματα των εργαζομένων. /May 1st, like in many other countries, is also known as Labor Day and is a day used to honor workers’ rights.E:Άρα γίνονται και διαδηλώσεις ή πορείες για εκείνη την ημέρα; /So are there also protests or marches on that day?D:Ναι, κυρίως σε μεγάλες πόλεις όπως είναι η Αθήνα και η Θεσσαλονίκη. Εκεί γίνονται συγκεντρώσεις για τα εργασιακά δικαιώματα τιμώντας τους αγώνες των εργαζομένων. /Yes, especially in big cities like Athens and Thessaloniki. There are rallies for labor rights to honor workers’ struggles.E:Και πότε έγινε η πρώτη εργατική απεργία στην Ελλάδα; /And when was the first labor strike in Greece?D:Η πρώτη έγινε το 1893, και από τότε, η Πρωτομαγιά είναι σημαντική για το εργατικό κίνημα. /The first one was in 1893, and since then, May Day has been important for the labor movement.E:Μου φαίνεται πολύ ενδιαφέρον το πώς η Πρωτομαγιά συνδυάζει τη γιορτή της φύσης με τους εργατικούς αγώνες. /I find it really interesting how May Day combines the celebration of nature with labor struggles.D:Ακριβώς! Και ο καθένας βρίσκει τον δικό του τρόπο να τη γιορτάσει. /Exactly! In today's episode you will learn the simple past tense in Greek. Emily will first engage in a conversation with Danae, describing her day in Athens and then will explain how to use and form the simple past.D: Πώς πέρασες στην Αθήνα; / How was your time in Athens?E: Ήταν απίστευτη εμπειρία! Η Αθήνα έχει τόσα πολλά να δεις και να κάνεις! / It was an incredible experience! Athens has so much to see and do!D: Για πες! Τι έκανες όλη μέρα; / Tell me! What did you do all day?E: Το πρωί ξύπνησα νωρίς και αφού έφαγα ένα τέλειο πρωινό γιαούρτι με φρούτα, πήγα στην Ακρόπολη. Επισκέφτηκα τον Παρθενώνα και θαύμασα τη θέα από ψηλά. Μετά κατέβηκα στο Μουσείο της Ακρόπολης και συναντήθηκα με τη φίλη μου την Ελένη, που μένει στην Αθήνα. / In the morning I woke up early and after having a perfect breakfast—yogurt with fruit—I went to the Acropolis. I visited the Parthenon and admired the view from above. Then I went down to the Acropolis Museum and met up with my friend Eleni, who lives in Athens.D: Τέλεια! Πώς ήταν το μουσείο; Είναι τόσο καλό όσο λένε; / Awesome! How was the museum? Is it as good as they say?E: Μου άρεσε πάρα πολύ! Έχει πάρα πολλά εκθέματα και οργανωμένα με ωραίο τρόπο. / I really liked it! It has so many exhibits and they’re very well organized.D: Κι εγώ αυτό έχω ακούσει. Έκανες τίποτα άλλο μετά ή πήγες πίσω στο ξενοδοχείο. / That’s what I’ve heard too. Did you do anything else after that or did you go back to the hotel?Έ: Ναι, μετά πήγαμε βόλτα στην Αρεοπαγίτου και περπατήσαμε μέχρι το Θησείο. Στη συνέχεια περάσαμε από το Μοναστηράκι, είδαμε τα παλιά μαγαζιά και εγώ αγόρασα μερικά αναμνηστικά. / Yeah, afterward we took a walk along Areopagitou Street and walked all the way to Thiseio. Then we passed through Monastiraki, saw the old shops, and I bought some souvenirs.D: Δοκίμασες και ελληνικό φαγητό; / Did you try any Greek food?Ε: Εννοείται! Το μεσημέρι έφαγα σε ένα ταβερνάκι στην Πλάκα. Παρήγγειλα μουσακά και μια χωριάτικη σαλάτα, αλλά δοκίμασα και από το παστίτσιο της φίλης μου. / Of course! At lunch I ate at a little taverna in Plaka. I ordered moussaka and a Greek salad, and I also tasted some of my friend’s pastitsio.D: Πολύ ωραία επιλογή! Το απόγευμα τι έκανες; / Great choices! What did you do in the afternoon?E: Πήγαμε στο Σύνταγμα και είδαμε την αλλαγή φρουράς μπροστά στη Βουλή. Μετά πήραμε έναν καφέ στο χέρι και περπατήσαμε στον Εθνικό Κήπο. / We went to Syntagma and watched the changing of the guard in front of Parliament. Then we grabbed a coffee to go and walked through the National Garden.D: Και το βράδυ; / And in the evening?E: Το βράδυ ανεβήκαμε στον Λυκαβηττό και είδαμε το ηλιοβασίλεμα. Η θέα της Αθήνας από ψηλά ήταν μαγική! / In the evening we went up to Lycabettus Hill and watched the sunset. The view of Athens from up there was magical!D: Ακούγεται σαν πολύ γεμάτη αλλά και φανταστική μέρα! / Sounds like a packed but amazing day!E: Ήταν όντως λίγο κουραστική, όμως πέρασα τέλεια! Η Αθήνα είναι υπέροχη πόλη! / It was a bit tiring, but I had a great time! In today's episode you will learn about Greek Orthodox Easter and how we celebrate it in Greece. Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation about the celebrations and then will explain the importance of Easter in Greece and the different traditions.E: Danae, did you know that Easter is one of the biggest celebrations in Greece?D: Yes! I’ve heard that Easter in Greece is very special. What do you usually do?E: Every place has its own customs, but the main ones are common for everyone. It all starts with Holy Week. Each day has its own significance, but Good Friday is very important.D: Right! That’s when the procession of the Epitaphios takes place, isn’t it?E: Exactly! On Good Friday evening, we follow the Epitaphios through the streets, holding candles.D: And what about Holy Saturday?E: On Holy Saturday, just before midnight, everyone goes to church for the Resurrection. When the priest says “Christ is Risen,” we light our candles with the Holy Light, the bells ring, and in many places there are fireworks too.D: And then you crack the red eggs, right?E: Yes! Cracking the eggs is one of the most fun traditions. And of course, afterwards we eat magiritsa!D: Magiritsa… that’s the soup you eat after the Resurrection, right?E: Exactly! It’s a traditional soup made with various kinds of meat and greens. Some people love it, others not so much!D: And on Easter Sunday everyone eats lamb on the spit!E: Yes! We gather with family and friends, roast lamb and kokoretsi, and dance traditional dances.D: That sounds wonderful! Do you also have traditional Easter sweets?E: Of course! Tsourekia and koulourakia are the most well-known.D: What’s tsoureki?E: It’s a sweet and fluffy bread with aromatic spices like mahlepi and mastiha.D: I definitely have to try that! But usually, people celebrate Easter in the villages, right?E: Right, many people leave the cities and go to their villages to celebrate with relatives. The atmosphere there is even more traditional and festive!D: How lovely! I’d really like to celebrate Easter in a Greek village too.E: We can celebrate together! This year, in fact, Orthodox and Catholic Easter fall on the same day. So we can go to my village together. What do you say?D: Do you think I can still make it?E: Absolutely! In today's episode you will learn about the interrogative pronouns ποιος/ποια/ποιο in Greek. Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation making a list for gifts they need to buy and then explain the use of these pronouns and their cases.E: Λοιπόν Δανάη, έχουμε πολλά γενέθλια αυτόν τον καιρό και πρέπει να πάρουμε δώρα. / So, Danae, we have a lot of birthdays coming up and we need to get gifts.D: Κάτι έχω στο μυαλό μου. Ποιος έχει πρώτος; Ο Γιάννης ή Η Κατερίνα; / I have something in mind. Who's first? Yiannis or Katerina?E: Ο Γιάννης, στις 5 Απριλίου και η Κατερίνα στις 11 Απριλίου. / Yiannis, on April 5th, and Katerina on April 11th.D: Ωραία, σκεφτόμουν για τον Γιάννη ένα επιτραπέζιο και για την Κατερίνα παζλ. Τι λες; / Great, I was thinking of a board game for Yiannis and a puzzle for Katerina. What do you think?E: Ωραίες ιδέες! Αλλά ποιο επιτραπέζιο σκέφτεσαι για τον Γιάννη; / Nice ideas! But which board game are you thinking of for Yiannis?D: Δεν είμαι σίγουρη. Ποιο του αρέσει περισσότερο; /  I'm not sure. Which one does he like the most?E: Νομίζω πως του αρέσουν τα επιτραπέζια στρατηγικής, αλλά δεν ξέρω ποιο επιτραπέζιο έπαιζε τελευταία φορά και του άρεσε πολύ. / I think he likes strategy board games, but I don't know which one he played last time and really enjoyed.D: Μήπως να ρωτήσουμε τον Νίκο; / Should we ask Nikos?E: Καλή ιδέα! Who else do we need to buy gifts for?D: Έχουμε την Ιωάννα και την Ειρήνη. /  We have Ioanna and Eirini.E: Αχ δεν θυμάμαι. Ποιανής είναι αγαπημένο χρώμα το μωβ; / Oh, I can't remember. Whose favorite color is purple?D: Της Ειρήνης. /  Eirini’s.E: Τέλεια! Είχα δει ένα φοβερό φόρεμα και νομίζω θα της πηγαίνει πολύ! /  Perfect! I saw an amazing dress, and I think it would look great on her!D: Ωραία. Οπότε ας πάρουμε το φόρεμα στην Ειρήνη και στην Ιωάννα ένα βιβλίο. / Nice. So let's get the dress for Eirini and a book for Ioanna.E: Ποιο βιβλίο όμως; Τα έχει διαβάσει όλα! /  But which book? She's read them all!D: Λογικά ο Γιάννης θα ξέρει ποιο λείπει από τη βιβλιοθήκη της! / Yiannis probably knows which one is missing from her bookshelf!E: Σωστά. Οπότε κλείσαμε. In today's episode you will learn different phrases about the weather in Greek. Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation talking about a day trip and then explain some expressions and vocabulary we use in Greek, when talking about the weather.E: Επιτέλους ήρθε η άνοιξη και ανοίγει ο καιρός! /  Spring is finally here, and the weather is warming up!D: Ναι! Τις τελευταίες μέρες έχει πάρα πολύ ήλιο και κάνει πολλή ζέστη! / Yes! These past few days have been really sunny and very warm!E: Καιρός ήταν! Τι λες, πάμε καμία εκδρομή την Κυριακή; / It was about time! What do you think, shall we go on a trip on Sunday?D: Κυριακή από ό,τι είδα ίσως βρέξει. Πάμε μήπως το Σάββατο; / From what I saw, it might rain on Sunday. Should we go on Saturday instead?E: Ναι, πάμε το Σάββατο. Σκεφτόμουν μήπως πηγαίναμε προς τον Πλαταμώνα. Να κάνουμε μια βόλτα στη θάλασσα και να φάμε σε μια ωραία ταβέρνα που ξέρω. / Yes, let's go on Saturday. I was thinking we could go to Platamonas, take a walk by the sea, and eat at a nice taverna I know.D: Τέλεια ιδέα! Για δες, πόσους βαθμούς θα έχει το Σάββατο; / Great idea! Check the temperature for Saturday.E: Λέει ότι η θερμοκρασία θα φτάσει μέχρι τους 22 βαθμούς Κελσίου. / It says the temperature will reach up to 22 degrees Celsius.D: Σχεδόν καλοκαίρι! / Almost summer!E: Βέβαια, το απογευματάκι που θα πέσει ο ήλιος θα βγάλει λίγο αέρα και θα κάνει ψύχρα. Οπότε ας έχουμε μαζί μας ένα ελαφρύ μπουφάν. / Of course, in the afternoon, when the sun goes down, it will get a bit windy and chilly. So let's bring a light jacket.D: Έχεις δίκιο. Θα πέσει πολύ η θερμοκρασία το βράδυ. / You're right. The temperature will drop a lot at night.E: Θα πέσει μέχρι και τους 11 βαθμούς Κελσίου. / It will go down to 11 degrees Celsius.D: Οπότε οπωσδήποτε μπουφανάκι! Μήπως να πάρουμε και καμιά ομπρέλα μην βρέξει ξαφνικά; / So definitely a jacket! Should we also bring an umbrella in case it suddenly rains?E: Η πρόγνωση δεν λέει κάτι για βροχή, δίνει μόνο συννεφιά, αλλά ας έχουμε μία ομπρέλα καλού κακού. / The forecast doesn't mention rain, only clouds, but let's take an umbrella just in case.D: Πάντως η ξαδέρφη μου που μένει εκεί μου είπε ότι το βράδυ κάνει κρύο γιατί έχει υγρασία. / By the way, my cousin who lives there told me that it gets cold at night because of the humidity.E: Σωστά! Αλλά εμείς θα φύγουμε γύρω στις 7 με 8 το απόγευμα. / That's true! But we'll be leaving around 7 or 8 in the evening.D: Καλά λες! Κατά τις 10 το πρωί είναι καλά να ξεκινήσουμε; / Good point! Is 10 a.m. a good time to leave?E: Μπορούμε να ξεκινήσουμε και λίγο πιο αργά, αφού έτσι κι αλλιώς έχει μεγαλώσει η μέρα και θα προλάβουμε πολύ ήλιο. / We can leave a bit later since the days are longer now, and we'll still get plenty of sunshine.D: Ωραία! Ας βρεθούμε γύρω στις 11. / Great! Let's meet around 11.E: Ναι, 11 είναι τέλεια! Τα λέμε το Σάββατο! / Yes, 11 is perfect! Πού είναι; / That’s awesome! Και κάθε φορά που θα τελειώνει ο μήνας, το πακέτο μου θα ανανεώνεται αμέσως και δεν θα χάνω τη θέση μου. / I’ll pay €100 per month! Remind me, what time is our flight?E: Πετάμε την Παρασκευή 15 Αυγούστου στις 2:00 το μεσημέρι από το αεροδρόμιο του Νιούαρκ και η πτήση διαρκεί περίπου 9 ώρες και 15 λεπτά. / We're flying on Friday, August 15th, at 2:00 PM from Newark Airport, and the flight lasts about 9 hours and 15 minutes.D: Άρα θα πάρουμε το λεωφορείο του αεροδρομίου κατά τις 9:00, γιατί θέλουμε γύρω στις 2 ώρες να φτάσουμε και θα έχουμε βαλίτσες να παραδώσουμε. / So, we'll take the airport bus around 9:00 AM because we'll need about 2 hours to get there, and we have luggage to check in.E: Ακριβώς! Και στις 18 του μηνός νωρίς το πρωί θα ξεκινήσουμε για Ναύπακτο. / Of course. I’ve reserved a double room for two nights, from August 16th to 18th. And on the morning of the 18th, we’ll head to Nafpaktos.E: Ωραία, οπότε κλείσαμε την διαμονή μας και τη μεταφορά μας από και προς τα αεροδρόμια. Λες να πάμε από Αθήνα στη Ναύπακτο με ΚΤΕΛ ή να νοικιάσουμε αμάξι; / Great, so we have our accommodation and airport transfers sorted. Do you think we should take the bus from Athens to Nafpaktos, or should we rent a car?D: Θα έλεγα καλύτερα να νοικιάσουμε αμάξι, γιατί τα δρομολόγια του ΚΤΕΛ δεν θα μας βολέψουν. Η αφετηρία τους θα είναι μακριά και η πρώτη αναχώρηση είναι στις 11:00 το πρωί. / I’d say renting a car is better because the bus schedules won’t be convenient. The departure point is far away, and the first bus leaves at 11:00 AM.E: Έχεις δίκιο, είναι αργά. Καλύτερα έτσι, για να έχουμε την άνεσή μας και να είναι ευκολότερη η μετακίνηση. / You’re right, that’s too late. I woke up at 6:00 in the morning and haven’t rested at all.D: Γιατί ξύπνησες τόσο νωρίς; / Why did you wake up so early?Ε: Έπρεπε να ξεκινήσω νωρίτερα για την δουλειά και αντί για 8:00 που φεύγω συνήθως, έφυγα στις 7:00 το πρωί. / I had to start work earlier, and instead of leaving at 8:00 as usual, I left at 7:00 in the morning.D: Αφού ξεκίνησες νωρίτερα, ελπίζω να γύρισες και νωρίτερα. / Since you started earlier, I hope you got home earlier too.Ε: Δυστυχώς όχι, γύρισα στο σπίτι στις 6:30 το απόγευμα. / Unfortunately not, I got home at 6:30 in the evening.D: Πολλές ώρες! What are you doing this summer?D: Εγώ θα πάω στην Ελλάδα. Έχω κλείσει να πάω στη Ναύπακτο σε μία επταήμερη εκδρομή για την Ελληνική γλώσσα. / I’m going to Greece. I’ve booked a seven-day trip to Nafpaktos for a Greek language program.E: Αυτό ακούγεται τέλειο! Η Ναύπακτος όμως πού είναι; / That sounds amazing! But where is Nafpaktos?D: Η Ναύπακτος είναι μία παραθαλάσσια πόλη μόλις 2,5 ώρες από την Αθήνα. Είναι ένα πολύ όμορφο και ιστορικό μέρος. / Nafpaktos is a seaside town just 2.5 hours from Athens. It’s a very beautiful and historic place.E: Πωπω! Δίπλα στη θάλασσα! Και τι θα κάνεις εκεί; / Wow! Right by the sea! And what will you do there?D: Πάρα πολλά πράγματα! Αρχικά, θα εξασκήσω τα ελληνικά μου ακόμα περισσότερο γιατί θα κάνουμε συνολικά 15 ώρες μαθήματα ελληνικών! Επιπλέον, θα κάνουμε και σεμινάρια ιστορίας, πολιτισμού, γαστρονομίας και μυθολογίας! / So many things! In today's episode you will learn various words that sound the same but have a different a meaning and spelling in Greek! Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation talking about a small accident at a walk to the park and will analyse the spelling and meaning of these words. E: Καλά! Δεν θα πιστέψεις τι έγινε το Σάββατο. / Well! You won’t believe what happened on Saturday. D: Τι έγινε; / What happened? E: Πήγα την ανιψιά μου στις κούνιες και μου βγήκε πάλι ο ώμος. / I took my niece to the swings and my shoulder popped out again. D: Πώς έγινε αυτό; / How did that happen? E: Ούτε που κατάλαβα! Την έκανα κούνια και σε μια στιγμή ίσως έβαλα περισσότερη δύναμη και βγήκε ο ώμος μου. / I didn’t even realize! I was pushing her on the swing, and at one point, maybe I applied too much force and my shoulder dislocated.  D: Πόνεσε πολύ; / Did it hurt a lot? E: Ό,τι και να πω είναι λίγο! / Whatever I say is an understatement! D: Το φαντάζομαι. Η ανιψιά σου τι έκανε; / I can imagine. What did your niece do? E: Τρόμαξε η καημένη! Προσπάθησε να με βοηθήσει, μου έλεγε: “έλα θεία, σήκω σήκω!” και ότι θα μου φτιάξει φρουτοσαλάτα με καρπούζι, σύκο και πεπόνι για να με παρηγορήσει! / The poor thing got scared! She tried to help me, saying, “Come on aunt, get up, get up!” and that she would make me a fruit salad with watermelon, fig, and melon to cheer me up! D: Μα τι γλυκό παιδί! Τελικά πώς σηκώθηκες; / What a sweet kid! How did you finally get up?  E: Ευτυχώς, ήταν και ο αδερφός μου μαζί, που είναι δύο μέτρα και με βοήθησε. / Luckily, my brother was there, he's two meters tall, and he helped me. D: Τώρα όμως πονάς; / Are you still in pain now?  E: Πέρασε ο πολύς ο πόνος αλλά θα το κρατήσω δεμένο για μία εβδομάδα ακόμα. / The worst of the pain is gone, but I’ll keep it wrapped for another week. In today's episode you will expand your vocabulary and learn different ways to ask or give directions in Greek! Emily and Danai will first engage in a conversation talking about how to get to the white towel and they will explain some basic phrases and words. E: Εμ…Συγγνώμη; / Um... Excuse me? D: Παρακαλώ! / Yes, how can I help you? E: Θέλω να πάω στον λευκό πύργο, αλλά χάθηκα. Προς ποια κατεύθυνση πρέπει να πάω; / I want to go to the White Tower, but I got lost. Which direction should I go? D: Λοιπόν, θα πρέπει να πάτε προς την αντίθετη κατεύθυνση από αυτήν που είστε τώρα. /Well, you should go in the opposite direction of where you are now. E: Είναι πολύ μακριά; /Is it far? D: Όχι πολύ. Θα χρειαστεί να περπατήσετε λίγο. /Not really. You’ll need to walk a bit. Ε: Δεν πειράζει! Προς τα πού να πάω; /That’s fine! Which way should I go? D: Είναι εύκολο. Θα περάσετε απέναντι και θα προχωρήσετε όλο ευθεία προς τα κάτω, μέχρι το φανάρι. Στο φανάρι θα στρίψετε δεξιά και στο τέταρτο στενό θα στρίψετε αριστερά. Θα προχωρήσετε όλο ευθεία μέχρι να φτάσετε στην παραλία. Αφού φτάσετε στην παραλία, θα δείτε τον λευκό πύργο στο αριστερό σας χέρι. /It’s easy. You’ll cross to the other side and walk straight ahead until you reach the traffic light. At the traffic light, turn right, and at the fourth narrow street, turn left. Keep walking straight until you reach the beach. Once you get to the beach, you’ll see the White Tower on your left. E: Πόση ώρα δηλαδή είναι από εδώ ο λευκός πύργος; /How long is it from here to the White Tower? D: Περίπου 15 λεπτά με τα πόδια. /About 15 minutes on foot. E: Μπορώ να πάρω λεωφορείο; /Can I take a bus? D: Φυσικά! Μπορείτε να πάρετε το λεωφορείο νούμερο 3, που περνάει από αυτήν τη στάση, αλλά θα κάνει περισσότερη ώρα γιατί κάνει κύκλο. /Of course! You can take bus number 3, which passes through this stop, but it’ll take longer because it makes a loop. E: Εντάξει! Ευχαριστώ πάρα πολύ! /Okay! Thank you very much! D: Παρακαλώ. In today's episode you will expand your vocabulary and learn different ways to say why something happened in Greek! Emily and Danai will first engage in a conversation talking about two accidents and will explain how to use the word "γιατί" and it's synonyms. E: Δανάη! Τι κάνεις εσύ εδώ; / Danae! What are you doing here? D: Είχα ένα μικρό ατύχημα με το αυτοκίνητο. /I had a small car accident. E: Σοβαρά; Τι έγινε; Χτύπησες; /Really? What happened? Did you get hurt? D: Οδηγούσα στη λεωφόρο και κοντά στη διασταύρωση, ένα φορτηγό μπροστά μου σταμάτησε απότομα. Πρόλαβα να φρενάρω, αλλά έβρεχε γλίστρησε το αμάξι, βγήκε από το δρόμο και χτύπησε στα κολωνάκια. / I was driving on the highway, and near the intersection, a truck in front of me stopped suddenly. I managed to brake, but it was raining, and the car slid, went off the road, and hit the bollards. E: Πωπω! Χτύπησες πολύ; /Wow! Did you get hurt badly? D: Ευτυχώς όχι, δεν χτύπησα πολύ, διότι φορούσα ζώνη! Ο αυχένας μου τραντάχτηκε και πονάει το κεφάλι μου. /Fortunately, no, I didn’t get hurt badly because I was wearing my seatbelt! My neck jerked and my head hurts. E: Ελπίζω να μην είναι κάτι σοβαρό. Ήταν κανένας άλλος μαζί σου μέσα στο αμάξι; /I hope it’s nothing serious. Was anyone else in the car with you? D: Ήμουν με μία φίλη μου. Χτύπησε λίγο το γόνατό της και τον δεξί καρπό της, γιατί προσπάθησε να βάλει αντίσταση στο ταμπλό. /I was with a friend of mine. She hurt her knee a little and her right wrist because she tried to brace herself against the dashboard. E: Πάλι καλά! Το αμάξι; /Well, that’s a relief! How’s the car? D: Αχ άσε! Το αυτοκίνητο έγινε χάλια. Μάλλον δεν επισκευάζεται. /Oh, don’t ask! The car’s a wreck. It probably can’t be repaired. E: Δεν πειράζει! Σημασία έχει εσείς να είστε καλά! /It doesn’t matter! What matters is that you’re both okay! D: Έχεις δίκιο. Εσύ τι κάνεις εδώ; /You’re right. What are you doing here? E: Εγώ έφερα την κόρη μου, γιατί πήδηξε από το κρεβάτι και γύρισε τον αστράγαλό της. /I brought my daughter because she jumped off the bed and twisted her ankle. D: Τον έσπασε ή τον στραμπούληξε; / Did she break it or just sprain it? E: Φαίνεται να τον στραμπούληξε μόνο. Περιμένουμε τα αποτελέσματα της ακτινογραφίας. / It looks like she just sprained it. We’re waiting for the X-ray results. D: Κι εγώ περιμένω να μπω για ακτινογραφία. Μακάρι να είναι κάτι απλό! Περαστικά της! / I’m also waiting for an X-ray. I hope it’s something simple! Καλή χρονιά! / Good morning, Danai! Happy New Year! D: Καλή χρονιά Έμιλυ! Ευτυχισμένος ο καινούριος χρόνος! / Happy New Year, Emily! Wishing you a joyful new year! E: Πώς πέρασες την Πρωτοχρονιά; / How did you spend New Year's Eve? D: Πέρασα τέλεια με την οικογένειά μου! Εσύ; / I had a great time with my family! How about you? E: Κι εγώ! Με οικογένεια και φίλους. Έβαλες στόχους για την καινούρια χρονιά; / Me too! With family and friends. Did you set any goals for the new year? D: Όχι ακόμα. Εσύ; / Not yet. What about you? E: Εγώ κάτι έχω αρχίσει να γράφω στη λίστα μου. / I’ve started writing some down on my list. D: Για πες! Μήπως μου δώσεις κι εμένα καμία ιδέα. / Tell me! Maybe you can give me some ideas. E: Λοιπόν, πρώτος μου στόχος για το 2025 είναι να τρώω πιο σωστά. / Well, my first goal for 2025 is to eat more healthily. D: Θα αλλάξεις διατροφή; / Are you going to change your diet? E: Όχι, προσέχω τι τρώω, αλλά θέλω να κάνω ολοκληρωμένα γεύματα και όχι σκόρπια μέσα στη μέρα. / Not exactly, I’m just being more careful about what I eat. I want to have proper meals instead of eating random things throughout the day. D: Κατάλαβα, έτσι θα έχεις και περισσότερη ενέργεια κατά τη διάρκεια της μέρας. / Got it, that way you’ll have more energy during the day. E: Ακριβώς! Εσύ σκέφτηκες τίποτα; / Exactly! What about you, have you thought of anything? D: Μετά από αυτό που είπες, νομίζω ότι ο πρώτος μου στόχος για την καινούρια χρονιά είναι να αλλάξω το ωράριο του ύπνου μου. / After hearing that, I think my first goal for this year is to change my sleep schedule. E: Δηλαδή; / What do you mean? D: Δηλαδή, να κοιμάμαι νωρίτερα το βράδυ και να μην κάθομαι να δουλεύω μέχρι αργά. Να κάνω τις δουλειές μου από νωρίς το πρωί για να έχω χρόνο να ξεκουράζομαι σωστά. / I mean, I want to go to bed earlier and not stay up working until late. I plan to get my tasks done early in the morning so I have time to rest properly. E: Πολύ καλό μου ακούγεται αυτό! Και υγιές για το σώμα σου! Ο δικός σου στόχος, μου θυμίζει και έναν δικό μου. / That sounds great! And healthy for your body! Your goal actually reminds me of one of mine. D: Ενδιαφέρον, για πες! / Interesting, tell me! E: Φέτος, πρέπει να ισορροπήσω τις ώρες της δουλειάς μου με τον προσωπικό μου χρόνο. / This year, I need to balance my work hours with my personal time. D: Σωστό αυτό! Κι εγώ πρέπει να το κάνω αυτό! / That’s a good one! I need to do that too! E: Τέλεια! Μπορούμε να βοηθάμε η μία την άλλη και να της υπενθυμίζουμε πότε χρειάζεται ένα διάλειμμα. / Perfect! We can help each other and remind one another when it’s time for a break. D: Ωραία ιδέα. Μπορούμε να ξεκινήσουμε και τώρα να θες! / Great idea. We can start right now, if you want! E: Εννοείται!
