Why must good people die for the egos of the morally bankrupt? Warriors are often celebrated in cultures across the planet for their bravery and sacrifice, but the real reasons for war are seldom honorable nor worthy of the warrior’s blood. Still, they are revered by the tribe, as they are seen as guardians of the society. The protectors who keep the savage hoards from breaching the gates of civilization. This narrative is true in some cases, but what about when your tribe is the bad guy? What about the blood spilled for no other purpose but to protect the interests of a few at the expense of the many? This narrative, in one form or another, is more often the case. Blood for glory, for oil, for god, for honor, and for greed. The petty tantrums of children at the head of vast armies, and powerful weapons have caused more damage to this world than any other force on Earth. Why is humanity like this? Why do we repeat the sins of our ancestors? Why do we close our eyes in the presence of the truth, and tolerate the decisions of unworthy leadership? Why do we allow leaders to hide behind walls, and the bodies of the warriors they’ve sent to fight in their stead? Today Mike examines the cost of tribalism, why members of the tribe close ranks before questioning leadership, and why tribes fracture as they grow. FOLLOW US

Why are some academics so set in their ways? What is it about new, and unconventional methods or hypotheses that causes some of the so called researches to close ranks, and even go so far as bullying those who dare step out of line? Mike talks about his frustrations with these types of professors, and how they kill creativity and curiosity. Become a Patron! Mike discusses why telling people to just work hard, and things will get better isn’t the best way to help them out of poverty. Neither is just throwing money at them, or providing them with clothing. Being trapped in poverty is a real issue, and there are some real solutions out there that involve more than just work ethic. People in poverty often need a hand up, and not necessarily a hand out. Recommended Freakonomics Episodes: When Helping Hurts Is The American Dream Really Dead?
