On today’s episode, we’re talking about what it really means to trust yourself. Too often, we think confidence comes from knowing all the answers or having all the skills for the job. But real, lasting confidence—what psychology calls mastery—comes from something deeper: the belief that you can handle whatever comes your way. We explore the 2 essential components of mastery: the belief and aligned action. You’ll learn why beliefs must come first, why past failures can be even more valuable than successes, and why perfectionism is the biggest roadblock to self-trust. If you’ve ever struggled with self-doubt or hesitated to go after something meaningful, this episode offers a practical way of reflecting on your experiences through a growth-oriented lens so you can start taking action that feeds your beliefs and builds lasting belief in yourself. We’re a relational species. We find joy and fulfillment in being there for others. But we can also be judgmental, mean or weak when we could’ve been kinder or more helpful. We’re imperfect after all—and sometimes others don’t make it easy either for us to be who we want to be.  And so, we will all carry regrets ion our relationships. In fact, if we don’t, we likely never engaged fully with the people in our lives. In this episode, I talk about: Why interpersonal regret is normal How repair brings us closer The two forms that repair can take Listen to find not only the peace you seek, but also actionable steps you can take to learn from the regret and start living in alignment with who you want to be.
Regret is a topic that’s showing up more and more in our conversations. Perhaps what we’ve lived through these past few years has reminded us not only of the shortness of life, but also that many (or most) of our pursuits haven’t even been aligned with what we want. And with that comes the regret of our unlived lives. In this episode, I divide the regret into 3 types, and offer a different way to work through each of them. Specific things I talk about: Regrets about conscious decisions we made Regrets about things we avoided out of fear Regrets about the unstoppable passage of time You’ll find practical and actionable ways to reclaim not only the life you’ve lived, but also the life that lies ahead of you.
Longevity vs ageism—are the two at war with each other? Or is there room for happy co-existence where we can live long with health and meaning? In this episode, I reflect on what the focus on longevity may be doing to our collective psyche and beliefs, and why it is important to be mindful in our pursuit for a longer life. Specific things I talk about: Longevity—a means or an end? Ageism, and its effects on healthy adult development Elderhood, and its role in society How do we pursue longevity while embracing age?  https://conniezweig.com/  https://www.homairakabir.com/goodbye-perfect-book/
What role does our relationship with “place” play in our lives? Does it matter how much we feel part of the land, neighborhood or city we live in? In this episode, I talk about author Sharon Blackie’s reflections on “place”, with reference to my unhappy relationship with a certain place early in my life, and how it may contributed to the eating disorder that followed.  Specific things I share: Why forming connection with a place can be difficult. Why we long for connection to ancestry  How healthy connection affects our lives for the better  Ways we can form connection even when we feel dislocated https://sharonblackie.net/if-women-rose-rooted/ https://www.homairakabir.com/goodbye-perfect-book/
We normally have an exciting vision when we set out to achieve our goals. We also have a detailed plan of action, including a plan B or C, so when obstacles happen, we know what to do. There’s one small problem: most of us don’t achieve our goals. Studies show what we already know—within a month or so, most goals and resolutions are a thing of the past. Despite a vision and a plan (and a month of trying), we end up feeling bad about ourselves. In this episode, we talk about: Why this is so The false promise of planning The most essential aspect of growth  The 2 components of this aspect And how you can make it a part of your life.   Connect with the show: Visit Homaira’s website: https://homairakabir.com/podcast Follow Homaira on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HomairaKabirOfficial Follow Homaira on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/homaira.kabir/
Often when we think of our goals, we think of we’ll do to achieve them. But successful goal achievement is so much more than that…especially for long term goals. In this episode, discover how to set yourself up for success in ways that energize you, instead of depleting you to the point that you give up on your goals. We’ll explore the three key relationships that are essential for success, and you’ll walk away with practical steps you can implement right away to re-fuel the goals and aspirations that may be losing their spark.
