Surprise! You all had such great questions for me during season one that I thought I'd sit down and try to answer a few for you. Be sure to visit the website lifeistrashpod.net and check out the musical genius of Saam Jafarzadeh (Cobble, Oya Paya) and the musical arm of LIT's logo designer Audun Laading (Her's) P.S. SINCEREST APOLOGIES FOR MISPRONOUNCING HIS NAME ON THIS EPISODE! Audun I love you. Enjoy my darlings and thanks so much for engaging so thoughtfully with this first go around!
Welcome back to Life Is Trash! Also, happy whatever you do in the moodier months to keep the big SADs away! To celebrate, I rounded up some of our pals from Season 1 for a little soiree of boxed wine, mediocre snacks, community, and of course, a little content creation. So grab a glass o' somethin', snuggle down, and get ready to reconnect with your buds from our inaugural season!
I wouldn't expect anyone to share intimate details about their worst experiences without first sharing my own. On the inaugural episode of Life Is Trash, I open up about the last year of my life with the help of one of my dearest friends.
This week's guest is one of my nearest and dearest; the wise, witty, and wonderful Hannah. Join us as we unpack anxiety/depression, grief, toxic relationships and the major bummer of maintaining your space. Buckle up. Despite the depth of the subject matter, you're about to laugh harder than you have in months. May Hannah's radiant energy bring you a little healing.
Ever dropped out of college? Ever wondered what chemicals can cause membrane deterioration? Ever dated totally trash human beings? Ever experienced the terrifying, aimless shlog that is your 20s? Ever had a fabulous idea, but were a little too timid to try? So has Julie! This week's conversation is surprising, funny and just as labyrinthine as life itself. Let's dive in.
Erich is a new friend, a co-worker and a total legend. He bared his soul for us and the lessons in love, compassion and identity are immense! This week's episode is one of the most open, honest and vulnerable conversations I've ever had the pleasure of participating in, and I hope you find the humanity and the healing within.
Greg is an academic, a classical composer, and also my dad! Join us for an hour of laughter, wisdom, and tales from his many run-ins with disaster. Heads up: if you're a person who always wished their life was a bit more like a Kerouac novel, this episode is for you.
Brandi is an even-keeled queen from Memphis, TN via Southern California who is single-handedly keeping me together at work. Join us as we discuss the effects of having family with mental illness, periods, and the horrifying state of our nation. She's sure to calm your nerves.
Haaaaave you ever felt your heart being stomped into a million pieces, your dreams shattering and your plans for the future disintegrate before your eyes? This episodes for you! Join Hana and I as we dig in to being a bi-cultural kid, the facade of daily interactions, and the utter trash of first heartbreak.
This week on Life Is Trash we're joined by a total anomaly: a well-adjusted, serene human being. Tee is thoughtful, beautiful, and wise beyond her years. Join us as we talk about the loss of a friend, the importance of community, and her vision for the future as a community organizer. Bonus: you get to hear me bumble along nervously in her presence!
Zac is a dear friend, a critical thinker, and a bonafide human sparkle. Join us as we talk about Fixer Upper, non-monogamy, and his experience as a trans boy in the world. Go forth with open minds and open hearts.
Kristi is fiery, hilarious and ripped as hell. She's also the mother of two littles, a partner dealing with the aftermath of infidelity, and a boss ass bitch who's building her life with intention day by day. Join us as we dive in to topics ranging from the performative nature of motherhood to gallons and gallons of lube. You're welcome.
When considering how I wanted to leave this inaugural season of Life Is Trash, my friend Demi instantly came to mind. She is wise beyond her years, a brilliant mind, and actual human medicine that I think we all could really use right now...Enjoy, my sweet comrades in trash and let's meet back here in January!
Welcome to Season 2 of Life Is Trash! Over the next few months we're diving into the trashiness of being a young creative entrepreneur. Though most of our guests are musicians and producers, their insights and insecurities are universal. To kick off our new season, I am joined by I See Rivers: a float-folk trio from Norway who currently operate out of South Wales. These powerhouses have toured the UK with the likes of Newton Faulkner and Cosmo Sheldrake, booked, managed, and executed tours of their home country, and self-released two phenomenal EPs. You can find I See Rivers on Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, Apple Music, and wherever else you find aural content!
Rob is a singer-songwriter-photographer-bartender-human extraordinaire. He's the definition of a hustler, incredibly thoughtful and well spoken, aaaaand did I mention he's an incredible party companion? This week we're talking about mental health, renegotiating our visions for our own happiness and the double-edged sword of building a global life. Check out Rob's Instagram here for all his upcoming creative projects.
Joining us all the way from Singapore, this week's guest is a smooth-voiced, rhythmically blessed ray of sunshine. Currently back in the UK pursuing his musical ambitions as the drummer in alt-rock outfit Oya Paya, Ashwin opens up about the challenges of immigration, injuries, and working towards seemingly impossible goals.
Charlotte is a theater director, an educator, and a hell of a good time. Join us this week as we discuss crises of confidence, pursuing your creative dreams with reckless abandon, and exercising to Madonna.
Saam is a third-culture kid, a thoughtful speaker, and one of the most tender sound wizards currently trekking the globe. You may know Saam as the bassist from Oya Paya, the production guru behind Her's, or from his own electronic project as Cobble. However you've come to know him, buckle up and get ready to dive into his fabulous brain.
Mattie is a dashing multi-instrumentalist and a hell of a good banter buddy. Join us this week as we dive into the trash that is formal education, divorce, and reconnecting with your pure enjoyment of creating. Also his bone structure. You can follow Mattie on Instagram to stay updated on his impending musical releases.
