I spent much of my early life living for anyone & everyone but myself.  For a long time I was ignorant to the fact that I was doing so.  Thank goodness that my life got so bad that I finally reached out for help and in turn began a journey of recovery and self-discovery that introduced me to the idea that it was healthy, courageous and wise to begin living an authentic life OF MY OWN :)  At this point in my life I am deeply feeling the results of building and embracing this life of my own and it's an incredible place to be! If not, then why not?  "Why am I doing what I'm doing" is the greatest question I have been courageous enough to ask myself AND continue to ask myself. The concert season is surely up on us and I feel like I'm already in full swing!! In this MUSIC INSPIRED episode I'm here to share with you 2 of my most recent musical experiences. I recently attended performances by the Hawaiian Jam Rock band KANEKOA, and looper extraordinaire KELLER WILLIAMS! BOTH are performers NOT to be missed!!  I had never heard of Kanekoa, but decided to take a chance due to a comment from Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann. Being a Deadhead myself I was sold when I heard he stated that, "Kanekoa are the Hawaiian Grateful Dead." That's all it took for me to take a chance and man oh man am I SOOOO glad I did!! As you'll hear me say MANY MANY times in this episode, "They are SPECTACULAR!"  In regards to Keller, well I've seen him perform many times BUT had never taken in one of his "Grateful Gospel" concerts and since this one was on Easter Sunday I just knew I had to go!!! Oh what a way to celebrate life!!! He equally, as expected, did not disapoint and neither did his back up band :) Have you heard of neither? Are you familiar with both? I'm guessing we've all dealt with breaking up. Perhaps you're in the midst of a breakup right now? And if you haven't yet broken up with anything then get prepared for the eventual guaranteed experience ;) I'm not just talking about the kind of breakup most of us are familiar with. You know, the significant other kind of break up. But rather I'm including ALL the breakups that can, and most likely will find their way into your life experience at one time or another. Those breakups can include: Breaking up with an employer, a particular career path, lover, family member, friend, idea or ideal, perspective, belief system, mandates, behavior pattern, relationships of all kinds, thought process, living situation, a place you've called home, etc... I can shorten the list by just saying breakups include all PEOPLE, PLACES and THINGS! And although many might call this more of a process of "letting go", I've recently realized that for me the breakup has to come before I can really begin to let go in any healthy manner ;) A few months ago I was back in my longtime homestate of Colorado, and it really washed over me that I have been in the process of breaking up with Colorado for a few years now., but for whatever reason I hadn't been able to see it from that perspective until this most recent visit. Have you hit bottom? Are you afraid of hitting bottom? Are you hitting bottom right now? It's a new year!!! Yup we've officially entered into the year 2025!! 2025?!?! Am I the only one who feels like I'm somehow living in "the future" even though the supposed future is now? LOL That being said, here we are at the forefront of another new beginning ;) In this episode, my first of the new year, I share my thoughts on, yup you got it, NEW BEGINNINGS, and how every second of the day can actually be a new beginning if you choose! I'm personally finding real joy and relief in the concept of new beginnings happening all the time. On October 16th, 2024 I traveled from East Coast to West Coast to attend the musical celebration of life for Robbie Robertson, lead singer of The Band. It was being held on October 17th at The Forum in L.A., a venue I had never been to, and the artists performing were of a caliber I couldn't possibly miss out on seeing and hearing! Calling all concert goers! This summer I headed West, back to my previous Eagle County, CO homebase, to spend 3 months working as much as possible, so as to pay off all my bills from the previous 3 months ;)  I did work almost 6 days a week for those 3 months, AND paid off all my prior months bills, but I also ended up playing almost as much as I worked ;)  I am definitely a LIVE MUSIC LOVER and this Summer "Tour" 2024 certainly filled my soul with some SUPER SWEET SOUNDS!  I actually began my adventure in Vegas taking in 2 nights of Dead and Company at The Sphere!! I then headed back to Colorado where I I took in performances all the way from Empower Field in Denver to the Belly Up in Aspen!   WHAT AN ADVENTURE!!!!  I saw a WIDE variety of musicians including Primus, Trombone Shorty, Melissa Etheridge, The Rolling Stones and Leftover Salmon to name a few, and in this episode I'm sharing my musical journey so as to hopefully inspire YOU to go on a "tour" of your own, perhaps provide you the opportunity to live a bit vicariously through my rock and roll experience, maybe help you decide whether or not to buy those concert tix, or even better reignite the feelings you felt while on your own recent "tour" ;) You'll also get a bit of insight regarding the venues where the concerts I attended were held. Do YOU love NOLA? Jazz Fest? Are you thinking of going to either OR both in your future? Are you a live music lover? If you have the tiniest bit of interest in any, or ALL of the things I mentioned than I believe you'll hear something that resonates with AND inspires you in this episode :) I went to New Orleans, for Jazz Fest, for the first time 3 years ago. It was the first Jazz Fest after the pandemic shut the world down, and I could hardly wait! A friend was supposed to join me, but because certain places were still requiring a vaccine card they opted out. I entertained the idea of not going, for about 5 minutes, and then begain to solidify my plans! I have since fallen in love with the Crescent City!! I attended solo and have gone back every year since! The first year I attended the first weekend of Jazz Fest, last year I attended the 2nd weekend, and this year I stayed for the whole shabang :)  I've released a few prior episodes: #'s 11, 12 & 46, in which I share about my experiences during each visit, and here I am again about to share all about my first 5 days of Jazz Fest 2024 AND MORE!!!  My intention is to provide you, in a 3 part series, with tips on getting around, info on the place I stayed, and a peek into the many venues where I took in live music, along with my Jazz Fest specific experience ;)  I saw SOOOOOOOO many concerts in my first 5 days! A good portion of my time on planet Earth has been spent daydreaming, projecting or dwelling, longing for things to be different, filled with a desire to be doing anything OTHER than what I was doing at the time. On January 30th I officially kicked off my 2024 musical adventure around the sun with a performance by the Benny Hill Jazz Quartet! It was a spectacular benefit event raising money for the Cape Fear Community College's music department and it was a few hours WELL spent!! I spent my late teens, 20's & early 30's in a rather unwell mental state. I was roaring through the world like a tornado, generally unaware of how my behavior was regularly harming those around me and equally harming myself in ways that had me in a viscious cycle of self abuse.Although I knew something was "off" with my mental health, I honestly didn't know what to do about it. So I drank and drugged my way through most of it, and when that made things even worse I drank and drugged more! That went on pretty much until my life hit a serious bottom on December 19th of 2000. Shortly thereafter I consciously embarked on a journey of recovery and self discovery which introduced me to the concept of mental wellness!! Since then I've been on an upward trajectory that has taken me places, emotionally and physically, that I never thought possible. One of the most important lessons I've learned thus far is that my mental health MUST matter to me! It's wonderful if it matters to others but MOST IMPORTANTLY is that it matter to me because if I'm not motivated to work on myself then it doesn't matter what others may have to offer. In this episode I share about what a fantastic adventure I've been on since making MY mental health a priority, along with sharing ideas that may be helpful to you. My mental wellness journey has allowed me to grow and heal in ways I never thought possible AND by caring for myself I've been able to be there for others who are hip to hopping on the positive mental health caravan ;)  If you happen to be struggling in the mental health department I hope you hear something that inspires you to keep moving forward. Boundaries? What are those?! Aren't they something you set while playing basketball, or other sports? You set them to block the other person out right?! Or don't they relate to property lines? Yup! That's what I thought for quite some time ;) Boy oh boy, was I rather surprised when I eventually learned that boundaries were also something I could set within my relationships! EMOTIONAL boundaries! What a concept ;) And even more surprising was how often I had disregarded other peoples boundaries due to my being ignorant of the concept ;)  I'm happy to say I've come a long way baby!! These day's I relish in setting boundaries! The growth that has taken place within, and the countless relationships that have been saved OR ended by setting them has been well worth every bit of time taken to become more familiar with the process and most importantly has been the willingness gained to continue to practice setting them :)  Join me as I share my experience with boundaries, or lack thereof, along with sharing some examples that you can begin to implement yourself! Here we are again! Where? At the end of a calendar year and beginning of another! Well here we are again! Where? In the midst of that mystical time of year when religion, "holiday" music, forced family fun, suggested excessive spending, food gorging, and expectations of being merry and bright are sort of pushed into our lives whether we like it or not. HELLO CYBERSPACE!! Oh how I've missed you!! In the spirit of the Holiday Season I'm ending my 2 month recording hiatus with a serious shot of GRATITUDE!! Reason being? A recent challenging life experience made it very clear to me that I am truly living a life beyond my wildest dreams! The experience itself wasn't some sort of immediate tragic life altering situation, but rather something that most likely happens to MANY of us, and possibly even on a daily basis. That being said, this experience really brought into focus, for me, how this life I'm living is better than anything I would have chosen for myself.
