Kris and guest disscuss how tody's society seems to be ok with just being ok. Have we become a society of under achievers. why does it seem that many are afriad or unwilling to try? Is this because we have never been allowed ro fail and learn from those faliues? The show then turns to one of the latest trends in society, defund the police.  It seems any law enforcement incident that leaves questions brings out those that want to defunbd the police and leave the country lawless. Wouldn't this leave us worse? How about taking monwy to set up more community involved programs to educated both the community and local law enforcement. Defunding the police only hurts the community. When the community looses quaillified canidates and has to result in hgiring processes that are less than stellar the problems will defienlty only become worse. Last we discuss what seems to be the latest trend and that is one of media censorship. Thank you for listening to the show and we apprecaite the support. Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/lifeofftherange)

Episode #14 Ryan Ellis

Episode #14 Ryan Ellis

2021-02-1701:17:53

Episode 14 features Ryan Ellis. While in studio, Ryan shares with us his  interesting story and journey. From dropping out of high school to enlisting  in the military, then being accepted and  attending one of the most respected  military collegiate institutions in the country, to finally finding balance at Florida State University. During the episode Ryan  talks about growing up in a military family  and how he reached a crossroads while talking with his father, a veteran as well, that led to Ryan's decision to enlist in 2012.  He shares with our listeners his experience meeting the Army recruiter and the importance of getting a good Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) score.  He goes into further detail about getting the Military Occupational Speciality (MOS)   he wanted in the military  and the process at  the Military Entrance Processing Station( MEPs )  The episode  then follows his journey through Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training  (AIT).  Ryan then describes his experience with his Drill Instructors and how he stayed motivated throughout the process. Upon graduation from Basic Training and AIT, now a US Army Infantry Soldier, he  then heads off to the US Army Airborne School to earn  his  jump wings.  Prior to enlisting Ryan selected an Option 40 contract that, upon completion and successful graduation of Airborne School, provided the opportunity to attend the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program (RASP), formerly known as the Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP) and be assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment. Ryan talks about being dropped from the selection process and entering into the Army Worldwide data base for assignment. While hoping to get assigneed to the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vicenza Italy , Ryan was sent orders to the 82nd Airborne Division located at Ft. Bragg North Carolina.  Ryan discusses settling in to his unit and preparing for his first deployment to Afghanistan.Prior to his deployment Ryan had been approached about attending the preparatory school and the possiblity of  attending West Point upon completion.  Ryan talks about, after returning stateside, being  selected and attending  the prep course and  his selection to West Point.  During this point in the episode Ryan  talks about his four years at West Point and the decisions that lead to joining the West Point Shooting Team, and how that ultimately lead to him not prioritizing his studies and not graduating.  Ryan tells the listeners  about how this was a low point in his life , and how he tried to appeal the process.  With no such  luck he redirects  his focus not on returning to the Army and serving his time as enlisted soldier,  but achieving his goal as a commissioned  officer. He then contacted the Secretary of the Army, was accepted to Florida State University and joined  the ROTC Corps of Cadets. Ryan is about to accept his commission and, although as he states being a little behind his West Point classmates, he would not change his path. Ryan talks about meeting his girlfriend at FSU and getting the chance to experience college life,  all of which he believes have better shaped him for his next chapter. Ryan's story is a true example of getting off the X in life and Improving Your Position- Never accepting to be just ok and keeping your goals in the front sight. It truly shows the path to success is not always an easy straight paved road, and that traveling the long windy gravel road with the occasional detours can also lead to your destination if you just keep persevering.   On a personal note I hope to be there when Ryan pins on his gold bar and will be glad to shake his hand as he again starts his journey in service withSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/lifeofftherange)
