This week has been tough. We are not out of the woods yet, but things are a better now than a few days ago when the worry did become a little too much for me.
Worrying about the unknown, plus the fact Owen can't really explain how he is feeling.
Have you ever watched your child walk off out of a room on his way to surgery? Man, it is tough!
Let me tell you about it...
Please share with others and leave any comments to help grow the podcast.
Tomorrow is Owens operation and we are all feeling a bit nervous, but it is for the best and I am very much looking forward to a couple of weeks from now when he is all recovered.
It seems that Owen knows that this visit to the hospital might be a bit different from the previous visits as his behaviour on the bus to school and at school this week might suggest.
Please leave comments and share with others to help make this podcast grow.
Following on from last episode, we now have a date booked for an operation for Owen where he will be asleep for the procedure.
How will he cope with this?.... How will I cope with this!!
Let me tell you once again how this effects my own mental health.
Thank you for listening.. I really hope it helps someone.
It is quite a gap since the last episode and so much has happened in that time.. Christmas.. New year.. back to School.. weekend away.. and most importantly.. My Birthday!
However, this episode jumps straight to the past week where we had an unexpected visit to the hospital.
How do you think an autistic child would cope with unexpectedly having to go to the hospital.. and not go home.
Let's discuss..
Christmas is such a wonderful time for children. I remember how excited I used to get as a child, waiting for christmas (I have even composed a christmas tune titled 'Waiting For Christmas').
But, can all of this excitement be a little too much for someone who struggles with the concept of time, patience and general everyday life issues?
Thank you for listening again, please share the episode with others who might find this topic useful.
Sleep is an issue and it is very common with autistic children to struggle to sleep.
It hasn't always been an issue with Owen however, as with everything, it is very hard to know how much sleep he actually gets.
Lets talk a bit more about it in this episode... or horror movie!

Don't you think that getting a young child with special needs into a special school should be a relatively simple process due to the important nature of the situation? We actually it seems that is not the case... and worse that that... the lies, yes lies that you are told as to why moving schools is not possible are unbelievable. Have a listen. DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT AND SHARE! (Sorry about shouting, I just wanted someone to hear me!)
How we went from Mainstream to Special... in 1 Second. Don't forget to share this episode my friends.
So we get through the summer holidays after weeks of planning and thinking of how to keep the boys entertained..
The holidays went well, everyone is happy..
Back to School next week..

A simple question is not always a simple question. In fact there are very few simple questions when it come to speaking to my son on the autistic spectrum... unless it's "do you want Mr Bean on the TV?" Which is always a yes!
Many people suffer with Mental Health Issues around the world... I am one of them for sure. I worry about so much, and very easily. Mainly about health, my health, my kids health... Once something pops into my head it is very hard to get it out. It can be crippling.
But most of what people worry about is just in their heads and there is no need to worry at all...
A trip to London for the first time with the boys.. now this is something to worry about!
...isn't it?
From time to time we need to take our children to the doctors for one reason or another which can be hard enough. But taking Owen can be pretty tough as you can't be sure how he feels and his anxiety can get challenging.
In this episode we look back on the meaning of We All Think Differently and talk about what this means and why for me it seems so important.
Our thoughts are what makes us different and makes us who we are, but so much is judged but what can be seen on the outside. What would the world be like if we could see thoughts?
I decided a while ago to not think too much about what will happen when Own becomes a teenager as it only ends up with unnecessary worry! TV programs and other horror stories of autism teens would suggest we have some pretty challenging times ahead, however I decided to cross that bridge when it comes.
You never know, there might not be any additional problems to what you would expect from a child without autism, so it is pointless to worry about it... but should we be prepared??

So after a nice dinner round my parents at the weekend, we walked home... but did I hear what I thought I heard or is it all in my head?
Whatever it was, it is something a parent has to deal with one way or another. Find out what I am talking about on today's episode.

Easter Holidays and plenty to do, and if your family includes autism then that probably includes a bit of extra planning to try to avoid anxiety (for all) and make it as enjoyable as possible for everyone.
But what if you are a parent.. isn't this just another hard reminder that your child has a disability and no matter how hard your try to make things good for everyone, they will never be able to break free from this mental trap? It breaks my heart.
You might feel differently, but just give me a few minutes to tell things the way it appears to me... I talk about it in this episode.
