In this episode Dawn dives into how our relationships with ourself and others develops. In the home environment for sure, but also when we enter and go through the educational system.  In Claim Your Dream Life,  Dawn explains how we have BIG DREAMS when we are children, believing we can be and do anything we want.  Then we become conditioned over time to temper our dreams and be "realistic".  By they time we reach adulthood, sadly just earning a steady paycheck is often our new “Dream”.  What can we do?  Dawn believes the answer lies in revamping the current system as our Industrial Era educational system’s one-size-fits-all approach often leaves students disconnected with each other, bored and disinterested in learning. There is good news.A non-profit called Transcend is partnering with communities to LISTEN to young people and learn how we can reinvent learning and the educational system.Read the results of the 8 month listening study, Conversations with Kids: Insights From a Year of Listening. Use Transcend's Free Guide to start your own conversation with a young person.Did you get your Free Copy of Dawn's book yet?Other episodes you'll enjoy:How Radical Forgiveness Improves All of Your Relationships with Marina Valentina GeorgeTeaching and Coaching: I Love My Work That Makes a Difference with John FlemingConnect with me:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/midlifeinparadise/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dawndfleming/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dawnfleming/Website: https://www.lifeinparadisepodcast.comSupport the show

In celebration of Labor Day, in the USA this episode is devoted to the workers of the world. Dawn shares information and data from the US, but the trend she discusses isn’t limited to that country.  There's a good reason we see so much labor unrest, with union workers striking, non-union workers organizing and pretty much all workers falling behind economically.Dawn examines the growth of CEO pay where compensation of the top CEOs has increased 1,322.2% from 1978 to 2020. Top CEO compensation grew roughly 60% faster than stock market growth during the same period and far exceeded the 18.0% growth in a typical worker’s pay.  During the pandemic the dramatic increase in CEO compensation was obscene. While millions were out of work, CEOs’ pay shot up 18.9% in 1 year. The CEO-to-worker compensation ratio was 21-to-1 in 1965. It peaked at 366-to-1 in 2000. In 2020 the ratio was 351-to-1. The makeup of CEO compensation is shifting away from stock options, to stock awards. Vested stock awards and exercised stock options totaled $20.1 million in 2020 and accounted for 83.1% of CEO pay.Corporate boards running America’s largest public firms are giving top executives outsize compensation packages that have grown much faster than the stock market, typical workers salaries, college graduates, and even the top 0.1%.   What can be done?Listen and discover:1. How primates (including humans) are hard wired for fairness and what happens when it is removed in scientific experiments2. Why we should care about income and economic inequality and how it impacts society.3.  Policy considerations to fix the corrupt CEO compensation system.4. What you can do at the individual level to make a difference and minimize the damage.Did you get your Free Copy of Dawn's book yet?Other episodes you'll enjoy:Change, Work, Jobs, Money or Your Life? Ever get FIRED from a Job? Do You Like Change? Have you ever been frustrated by a job search? In this episode Dawn shares her story of getting a blind-sided firing at a law firm - which turned out to be the last job she ever had.  In this book review episode Dawn discusses three books about the important and timely topics facing Mid-lifers today: Change, Work, Jobs, Money and Living a Good Life.  First, Who Moved My Cheese?  is  a timeless business classic book that utilizes a simple parable to reveal insightful and profound truths about dealing with change so that you can enjoy less stress and more success in your work and in your life. Next, in Bait & Switch: The (Futile) Pursuit of the American Dream Barbara Ehrenreich goes undercover as a job seeker to highlight the professional people (like us!) who did  everything right—we got our college degrees, developed marketable skills, and built up impressive résumés—yet we have become repeatedly vulnerable to financial devastation, and not simply due to the vagaries of the business cycle. The social compact has changed, and yet many people are still playing by the old rules... Finally, for or over twenty-five years, Your Money or Your Life has been considered THE go-to book for taking back your life by changing your relationship with money. Hundreds of thousands of people have followed the nine-step program outlined in the book, to live more deliberately and meaningfully.
