Description
Light In A Spoon showed up in my life 16 years ago when I picked up a book called "I Heard God Laughing, Renderings of Hafiz". Each poem cracked open bits of my heart and mind as I let the humor and wisdom of this ancient master seep into the deeper parts of ME.
The MAGIC and SELFLESSNESS of 'A Poet' ignited a fire that burned hot with possibility in the secret place, unexpressed...until NOW.

I met Sam in the rooms of a 12 Step Program for substance abuse. Sam has a very unique view of the world and his recovery, including “drinking having a spiritual component” (listen close for that one). He referred to himself as a ‘lovable tragedy’…the dude is just damned lovable.
As I’ve come to know Sam, his wisdom and his heart for others has been attractive. I am pretty sure you’ll come to love him too.
Sam is a poet and generously pours his light into a spoon and he lifts it to nourish many beautiful parched holy souls. For those who understand service to others, you know what I mean.
Sam offers resources that have moved the needle for him. Find them on Amazon. Click on the links.

Todd’s candor and courage inspired the hell out of me. I can’t help but believe his experience, strength and hope won’t do the same for you.
Todd my brother, thank you.

You will be inspired by this courageous woman and incredibly generous human being. You will also love her just released book “All Bets Are Off”
Betsy took on her life right where she found herself. Diabetic, dramatically overweight. She hired a coach, Spencer Newell; yes the same Spencer Newel of Episode 24 and the life partner of last weeks guest Tracey Hulick of Episode 26.
Betsy Thank you for your incredible determination to transform your life and then the courage to lend your voice to encourage all of us to “not go silently into the night” but lean in to life, find the inspiration required and get busy taking action to have the human experience be as exquisite as it possibly can be.
In addition to her new book, Betsy is also cofounder of Novo Veritas.
You can follow Betsey on Facebook and Instagram and her blog
And then Visit Light In A Spoon and purchase our Spoonful Of Light Superfood Greens
My introduction to Tracey Hulick came as I sat with Spencer Newell, LIAS guest on Episode 24. We were comparing notes regarding early inspiration for endurance running. I recounted my inspiration leading up to running my first marathon in October of 2006. I had donated a kidney to my younger sister Amy in Chicago, October of 2005, the same week of the 2005 Chicago Marathon…Spencer stopped me and said, “dude you’ve gotta meet my girlfriend Tracey. She donated a kidney and has started an organization called “Kidney Donor Athlete…” And she is an endurance runner too.
Spencer gave me Tracey’s contact info and thus began what has become a dear connection and friendship with a stellar human. I am going to let Tracey share her story, her love and the passion that drives her to raise awareness for living organ donation through her organization, FaceBook and Instagram @Kidney Donor Athletes .

Cylvia had been an environmental consultant and founder of 3 E Consulting. She then became “First Lady” of the State of Oregon and long time partner of former Gov John Kitzhaber. Of course, she had reached a level in public life where anything and everything becomes open season for journalists and the media. In October of 2014 Cylvia received a call from a journalist that uncovered “her past”. I will let Cylvia share her story of her “fall from grace” and subsequent rise to become a powerful force for transformation and…Authenticity.
This episode brings home the wisdom of “never quit…NO MATTER WHAT”. My conversation with Cylvia Hayes inspires me to remember that the perceived failures…aren’t…failures at all. NOT AT ALL!
Be looking for her forthcoming book. Click here to view Cylvia’s TEDx Talk “Who Do You Think You Are, Really? TEDxBend. You can also find Cylvia on Facebook & Instagram.

I got a call one day last summer from Craig Foster, a fellow ultra running buddy and brother in recovery saying “I just heard a guy by the name of Spencer Newell #spencernewell #appetiteforaddiction on the David Clarke Podcast and I think he lives pretty damned close to you.” I tracked down Spencer, who indeed lives in Bend, OR. I reached out via FB Messenger and we connected for this episode of ‘Light In A Spoon’.
Spencer has since become a good friend and a man I respect the hell out of.
Spencer’s life is chronicled in his book, “Appetite For Addiction”. He speaks with courage and vulnerability about the wreckage of a past caught in the merciless grip of active alcoholism and addiction. However, the story continues to unfold. Spencer has risen out of the incomprehensible demoralization that comes, part and parcel with addiction to begin life as a professional triathlete, coach, personal trainer…and if I can have any influence, the au

Having spent the better part of the last 7 years on my own ‘Quest’ or spiritual odyssey, I love meeting people who are very consciously embarking upon or have traveled a bit on their own. I met Jason at the very genesis of his. I was a campground host at Black Rock Canyon, in Joshua Tree National Park. Jason stopped by “5th Wheel Studios”, aka my home on wheels to inquire about getting a site.
We spent some time talking. At least long enough for him to have shared with me that he had just left the Discovery Channel after 20yrs. It was his first night alone in a tent…and that he was going to be on the road for the better part of the next year. This was May of 2018. As I write this I have no idea where he is in the world. The last time we met in September to record this, he was shortly on his way to Africa.
So you ask, between May and September did you guys stay in touch. Nope. IT JUST SO HAPPENED that I was on a 3 day trail running excursion to circumnavigate Mt Rainier on the W
This week’s guest is also a deeply loved and respected friend of 34 years. I met Steve In January of 1985 and we connected without even trying. We raised our families together as though we were family. My youngest son Chris works for Steve’s company, Bellmont Industries, and still refers to him as “uncle” Steve.
This may give you some insight into the character of this man. When my son Chris, who is special needs, was 8 years old and Bellmont, (then Pacific Crest Cabinets) was a ‘barely surviving’ startup, Steve said to him “When you graduate high school you come see “Uncle” Steve and I will have a job for you.” It was pretty common for Chris to get a reminder. 10 years later and Bellmont had grown to a multi-million dollar a year business Steve was true to his word and hired Chris. Chris continues to work there and lives a big life considering what he was dealt.

Rynda is a fierce advocate for transformation. She lives in the world as a beautiful expression of creative passion, courageous adventure and selfless service. Listen with an open mind and heart as Rynda shares her experience, strength and hope.
You know how you meet people and they either enter into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime? Well, I am not sure which Rynda will be in my life but I can say, I already know the reason, it’s already been a good but brief season and I wouldn’t be too sad if it remained for a lifetime.
Rynda, THANK YOU for your wide-open heart of courage and love. Thank you for bringing the gift of VRYEveryday to the world…to us. Thank you for your care and service to those seeking a ‘way out’ of addiction.

Sandra was introduced to me through Tyffany Howard who, by the way was my guest for episode 4. As Tyffany and I were wrapping up our conversation she said “you have to meet my friend Sandra from Australia. She would be a wonderful contribution to Light In A Spoon.”
Sandra & I first became friends on Facebook where I began getting acquainted with her work as an author and an entrepreneur. Sandra is the creator and founder of Sun Love Greens, Australia and the author of “So, Why Become Vegan”.
Sandra came to the states earlier this year to spend a month long holiday with Tyffany Howard. Sandra made arrangements to carve out a few extra days while visiting her son who had followed her from Australia to spend time with his father in LA. She came for a short visit while I was living in Joshua Tree, CA to record this episode of the podcast.
I have no doubt you will admire the purity of her soul, her commitment to her “Truth” and her generous spirit. Sandra’s devotion to gifting the p
The time don Jose graces us with is truly a gift. Jose is a teacher, a Shaman, a friend to many and a ‘son of God’. I have received inspiration from his writings and love from his presence.
Jose is a true teacher in that his teachings point us to the source of all of our good…The realm of our true power and happiness…the ‘kingdom within’. Jesus, in the New Testament, calls it “The Kingdom of God” and “The Kingdom of Heaven”. A true teacher is a ‘finger pointing to source’. Even the Buddha said “I am but a finger pointing at the moon”. A true teacher empties our head and fills our core.
I have read don Jose’s books and I have sat with him for 8 days as he taught a group of us the ways of the Toltec people in Teotihuacan, MX. Jose’s books include “The 5th Agreement”, co-written with his father don Miguel Ruiz, and “My Friend the Rattlesnake” to name just 2 in addition to his recent release “The Wisdom of The Shamans”.
I have learned much and have been deeply moved by this man’s teachings, but I have been ‘changed’ by his love.
don Jose, thank you for sharing your love and your wisdom with our Light
In A Spoon tribe.
Episode 16 Careena Chase
Careena, thank you so much for sitting down and being willing to be so open and vulnerable with us. From the moment we met in Idylwild, you’ve been among my favorite people on the planet. Your love, wisdom and generous life touches and inspires the hell out of me. I am sure your life will inspire many who listen to our conversation.
Careena has been moved powerfully by a few teachers along the way. She has become acquainted with Dr Joe Dispenza of “The Secret” fame. We are providing links to 2 of his books, “Becoming Supernatural” & “Breaking The Habit Of Being Yourself”
Careena is a poet indeed in that she pours light into a spoon everyday, and lifts it to nourish many beautiful parched holy mouths.
I also want to thank Luke for all of the post recording work including managing our social media, iTunes and website.
Jay Pinto, thank you for allowing us to use “We Breathe The Same Air”. We are all in this together. Let’s make shift happen.
Careena’s story opens my heart and mind to pouring my light into a spoon…NO MATTER WHAT! Let it open yours.
Be The Light, pour it freely,
Greg
I give an honest account of being trustworthy or the lack there of in my life as an addict and in my recover. The struggle to regain all of the trust I have lost and what I need to do to be worthy of trust again.
I will explore my life as an addict and the joys of recovery.

Episode 14 - Gary Allen This week’s guest is among a very few people who have actually been involved in search for extraterrestrial life. He has been witness to and recorded events of contact with ET’s and has come to the conclusion that they are here among us and mean us no harm. I for one am [...]

Episode 11 - Erin Sharaf My time with Erin left a deposit that I continue to carry today. As I mentioned she gave me a much sharper focus for the ‘message’ of Light In A Spoon.
