VICTOR FRENCH'S CHILDREN REMEMBER

We’ve entered the month of December, which means that holiday celebrations areunder way and Little House’s 50 th Anniversary year will soon enter the history books – orwill it? The show premiered in September of 1974, so the Anniversary year rolls on.More on that to come in later shows. One of the things we’ll remember about this December 5 episode of the podcast is thatAlison and Dean did it without the support of our very special host, Pamela Bob, whoZooms in each week from Brooklyn, NY. We missed her and we can tell you today thatPamela is fine, but we can also say that the reason she wasn’t with us on Thanksgivinggives us the opportunity to say thanks for her swift return. We’ll leave Pamela to sharethe details of her Thanksgiving absence as she chooses. In the meantime, we are deeply thankful for our Bonnethead family, who allow us toconnect and continue the Little House Love that began with the premiere of Little Houseso many years ago.Today we’re very excited to welcome the children of a man who was there right fromthe start of the Little House adventure early in 1974. We are speaking of Victor French,Little House’s beloved Mr. Edwards. Two of Victor’s three children, Tracy Hall and herolder brother, Victor Allen French (not a Junior, BTW) were in town to take part in2024’s final Little House on the Prairie tours of Big Sky Movie Ranch on December 1. Theday before the tours Alison and Dean welcomed Tracy and Victor into the studios ofUBNGo in Burbank. It was a wonderful conversation about their unforgettably talenteddad that focused on his portrayal of Isiah Edwards, the transforming power of the role, his passion for the craft of acting, and his children’s remembrances of Victor as a veryspecial dad.We also heard about Victor and Tracy’s commitment to their dad’s creative legacy; theyhave a new online store (see below) and are working on the publication of his theoriesof acting titled, A Matter of Choice. If you worked with Victor or loved his work on stageand screen, we think A Matter of Choice is a “must-read.”For our Patrons we will continue with Tracy and Victor focusing on their gleeful playtimewith their dad that made every day in the French house a kind of laughing, screamingHalloween adventure. Those of us who worked with Victor can totally relate to his extraordinary ability to make us laugh, cry, or scream as the circumstances evolvedduring so many wonderful scenes.A SPECIAL NOTE FOR THE HOLIDAYS (Written by Pamela):Little House on the Prairie is at the heart of what so many are most grateful for, not justbecause of the timeless stories it told, but because of the lasting impact it has had on allof us. The show brought families together, fostering a sense of community and sharedvalues that transcend generations. It taught us about resilience, love, and theimportance of finding gratitude even in the most challenging times. For many ofus, Little House was more than just entertainment—it was a source of comfort, inspiration, and connection to a simpler, yet deeply meaningful way of life. It has shapedhow we view family, community, and the world around us, and continues to remind usto appreciate the little things in life. Today, as we gather with loved ones, let usremember these values as a country, a community, as human beings.Haven’t signed up for Patreon yet? Happy Thanksgiving - Celebrating Gratitude with Jennifer Donati

Happy Thanksgiving! The gang couldn’t be more excited to share this special day with you. Today, and every day, we are deeply thankful for supporters like you, our Bonnethead family, who allow us to connect and continue the bond that started with Michael Landon in 1974.We’re thrilled to welcome Kathi Von Etten, head of the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce, who joins us to reflect on her "year of the Prairie" and share exciting news about the final Little House Bus Tour (say it ain’t so!) happening Sunday, December 1, with Dean and Alison as your guides. And for the collectors out there, don’t miss out on the exclusive Simi Valley Festival Little House 50th Anniversary merchandise—it's selling fast! Head over to the Simi Valley website (link also in the show notes) to grab your special edition items before they’re gone. We felt it was fitting to have today’s guest on Thanksgiving, as we are deeply inspired by her gratitude and grace—Baby Rose Wilder herself, Jennifer Donati. Jennifer shares with us how, at just seven weeks old, she and her twin sister were cast as Baby Rose in Little House on the Prairie. Though she has no memories of that experience, Jennifer was reunited with her Little House family a couple of years ago, and as she says, "life has never been the same." This adult reunion sparked her to finally write the book she had always dreamed of: More Than Just the Prairie. In it, Jennifer opens up about the personal hardships she has faced, including the loss of her twin sister, Sarah, and her beloved mother. Her story is one of resilience, strength, and gratitude, offering a powerful example of overcoming tragedy with grace. Oh, and by the way—she is also a badass!Continue the conversation with us on Patreon, where gratitude is at the heart of the discussion. This Thanksgiving, Pamela, Dean, Alison, and Jennifer share what they're thankful for, including Alison's story of meeting her newly discovered relatives in Ireland. They also explore how gratitude is the highest vibrational force. With so much to be thankful for, Little House on the Prairie is at the core of many of these blessings. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone—we hope you enjoy this heartfelt segment.A SPECIAL NOTE ON THIS THANKSGIVING: Little House on the Prairie is at the heart of what so many are most grateful for, not just because of the timeless stories it told, but because of the lasting impact it has had on all of us. The show brought families together, fostering a sense of community and shared values that transcend generations. It taught us about resilience, love, and the importance of finding gratitude even in the most challenging times. “A Little Dabbs'll Do Ya"

We start today's episode with a recognition of all the supportive and kind feedback we received from last week's episode, "The Elephant In the Room". We love you and appreciate you, Bonnetheads! And speaking of kindness, this was the perfect segway to discuss a beloved member of the Little House family that is no longer with us:  The late, great, Dabbs Greer, who we all know as the kind, gentle, and honest Reverend Alden.Hear first hand stories about Dabbs from Alison and Dean, and hear the answer when Pamela asks the burning question for Bonnetheads everywhere--"what happened to Rev. Alden's wife?!" Although he was on Little House for almost a decade, Dabbs had a long and thriving career--before and after Little House. It is a joy to keep the appreciation and love for Dabbs alive, and we celebrate him today! And how else to end the episode but answer some of YOUR listener questions?!THENJoin us on Patreon! “The Elephant In the Room"

Today’s episode addresses the Elephant in the Room:  The recent scandals involving Jack Bishop and his Gravel Road Market events. Dean, Alison, and Pamela felt it necessary to address this out of respect for the fans and everyone involved who have been affected. We discuss the history with Jack Bishop, the status of Little House fan events, the recent happenings involving Jack Bishop’s Gravel Road Market and what were supposed to be cancelled events. Sadly, the cast has had to address further grievances, with more public awareness including an article in People Magazine and a piece on NBC News’s Connecticut affiliate (both linked in the show notes below).  After the shocking mishandling of the Connecticut and Lancaster events, we discuss the impact, the aftermath, how the amazing fans have galvanized, and the hopes for what’s ahead in the Little House events universe (it’s gonna be GREAT!).  On a lighter note, check out our feature in Buzzfeed! Alison and Dean were featured this week in a great interview, which also featured the Podcast! (Link below)  And how else to end the episode but answer some of YOUR listener questions?! THEN Join us on Patreon, where we get loose and talk about… oh… anything! Pamela discusses her recent experience in a developmental workshop of a new musical in NYC and her upcoming show “Twisted Christmas”, premiering at Green Room 42 in NYC on December 3,5 and 6th.  Alison is coming to us from Paris, where she’s doing tons of shows before she heads to Ireland to do speaking engagements!  And Dean is giving us hints at possible UK/European/Japan Little House events… (What?! Tracie Savage - Almost Laura?

It's finally Sweater-Weather season! Alison and Dean recap last week's live screening of "Country Girls" in Simi Valley, where people arrived in full Prairie drag, reminiscent of the Rocky Horror Picture Show... (good idea, am I right?!)  They were joined by this week's guest, who also premiered in "Country Girls"--the incredible Tracie Savage, who played Christy Kennedy in the first 2 seasons of LHOTP. Tracie hadn't seen the cast in 48 years until she joined them at the 50th Anniversary festival in Simi Valley this past March! Fun fact: Tracie came from an entertainment family, and was the one child up against Melissa Gilbert for the role of Laura Ingalls. But she isn't bitter -- because she went on to have an incredible career in entertainment, (notably having a great death scene in the infamous Friday the 13rh franchise) and then found her calling in broadcast journalism, landing in Los Angeles, covering history-making stories such as the OJ Simpson trial. Speaking of OJ, Tracie tells a harrowing and riveting story of her experience having had to testify at the trial--and we are shook!  Currently, Tracie is a college professor, where she feels the most gratified. Tracie is seriously awesome, you will love her story--and we are so happy that she a part of the Little House family. Then, Alison answers some of your listener questions, specifically for Nellie Season 1!And for more fun, join us on Facebook for the Little House Food Contest!! BIRTH OF THE PRAIRIE BITCH

On September 18, 1974 a cultural phenomenon came forth unto the world: The Birth of the Prairie Bitch. That's right, Alison Arngrim premiered as Nellie Oleson on Little House on the Prairie, and our worlds have never been the same. We discuss the episode "Country Girls" and the role Alison was born to play. Did you know that Alison first auditioned for the role of Laura?! Hear about her infamous audition story, her deep understanding of the character, and how she was always drawn to villain characters. Find out how being bullied in real life lent itself to her channeling the nastiness of Nellie Oleson, and how her "prairie drag" helped to transform her into the role. The immediate connection felt between Alison and Melissa Gilbert allowed them to achieve one of the all-time greatest TV rivalries and how the enjoyment of the kill is comparable to Alison's hero, Hannibal Lecter! Alison's experience of being the most hated person to one of the most beloved people is nothing short of amazing, as is Alison's embracing of the character and her place in TV history--and all of our hearts--as our favorite Prairie Bitch. As Alison so perfectly says it: "BEAUTY IS FLEETING--VILLAINY IS FOREVER" Then join us on Patreon for another fun segment! This week...Dean gets a surprise from Alison that may or may not involve an iconic song, a jacket and tie, and Gary Coleman just may be a part of the conversation. Intrigued? Join us! KAREN GRASSLE "MOTHER COURAGE"

Today we have a very special guest, one that lives in the hearts of all Bonnetheads: Karen Grassle, otherwise known as Caroline Ingalls--or "Ma"! Beginning with the Little House pilot, her performance on Little House captured the hearts of millions, embodying strength, warmth, and resilience. Beyond her work on Little House, she has enjoyed a varied career in theater, film, and television, earning a reputation as a versatile and dedicated performer. Her contributions to Little House continue to be celebrated world wide and she is beloved as one of the most iconic TV moms in television history. Her belief of Ma being a strong woman and not an archetypal ingenue was a big deal in 1974.We reminisce about the enthusiastic reception for her during the Simi Valley 50th Anniversary Festival, and how Karen didn’t know how beloved she was until she was 80 years old--the year she published her memoir, "Bright Lights, Prairie Dust". She talks about accepting her destiny as Ma and how it influenced the trajectory of her career, how recovery from alcohol addition was a huge milestone in her life, and shares memories of some favorite moments on set, including Victor French, Melissa Sue Anderson and the iconic “A Matter of Faith” episode. #chickenwireKaren shares how acting was her calling from a young age and how writing her personal and vulnerable memoir was healing for her. Karen answers some of your listener questions, and then joins us on Patreon for a very personal conversation about difficulties on the Little House set behind the scenes and with Michael Landon during her time on Little House. Not on Patreon yet? “There’s Something About Mary” Pt. 1

It is safe to say, this is the most anticipated episode since we began this podcast! Today's guest is an original, essential, and beloved member of the Little House family. Episodes featuring her rich, dramatic, and traumatic life on the prairie setratings records for the series. She became famous and unforgettable as Mary, the eldest Ingalls daughter--Today she is Melissa Sloan, but fans will always know her as Melissa Sue Anderson. You take the good, you take the bad--and Melissa is here clearing up some misconceptions that might have been ruminating about her, including her on-screen love interests, her letting go of the past and embracing new friendships with cast members, and some behind the scenes happenings that were frankly...not cool. With an adult perspective now, she looks back on her time on Little House which is truly illuminating--and revealing. Find out how Melissa got the role, why she left the show, and why Pamela will forever be #TeamMary. If you ever worried about waking up and being spontaneously blind, like Mary did, you'll be thrilled to know that Melissa is not, nor has ever been, really blind! (She's just that good!)Join our Patreon channel, launching later this month, to hear your listener questions and get more insider talk with Melissa! For more info go to:*PATREON HASN'T LAUNCHED YET-IT WILL THIS MONTH. She began working in Walnut Grove’s Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in 2013, has performed and is performing in Walnut Grove’s Fragments of a Dream Pageant, and this year she is serving as the Event Coordinator…she's been really, really busy!We talk about the roots of how this museum came to be (as well as how it's the best gift shop for all things LIW), and if the TV Walnut Grove is anything like the real Walnut Grove. Find out how the TV Show saved this little town as well as the infamous Pageant held every year! This festival attracts people from all over the world -- and the Little House on the Prairie cast will be there this weekend! I loved this episode! I follow her on Instagram and I love when she does Cigarette mom! My mom smoked and yelled and I can totally relate to some of it! My favorite "Little House" episode was the plaque one. Well the one I remember the most at least. As a kid my life was chaotic and "Little House" was one of the shows that made me feel safe. As well as "The Cosby show" . I used to like "Good Times" because they were poorer than me and we were pretty poor. 😂

I noticed you said everybody's books/memoirs have the word, "prairie," but Melissa Sue Anderson's doesn't. ;)
