When we have a big goal,dream or vision, we sometimes struggle to get our of our own way and just simply take the first step. Our goal can feel so out of reach that we don’t even know where to start.When we reverse engineer our lives we think of where it is we want to go and work our way backwards until our very next steps become clear. In order for this to work, we think about the version of ourselves that’s already motivated, already successful, already confident and consider what they would be doing. As humans we struggle with something called “confirmation bias”, this is where our brain seeks out evidence in our lives to prove what we already believe is true. So if you have the belief that you don’t have the time, energy or motivation to start working towards your goals then your brain will look for evidence of this in your life. We often think that we first need to HAVE energy, time, confidence, motivation, more knowledge, etc. (Basically some sort of unrealistic perfect circumstance) before we can DO the things that we want to do and BE the version of ourselves that we want to become… Here’s some examples:“Once I have the time I can start going to the gym”“Once I go to the gym then I’ll have confidence in my body”Once I:Have: timeDo: go to the gymBe: confidentWe have to think of things the other way around, the version of you that’s already confident. How does she dress? How does she spend her time? What are her daily habits? Who is she spending her time with?Once you get clear on the version of yourself that already has what you desire you can start to take small, sustainable actions towards having what you want.Be. Neurons that fire together wire together. The more that certain thoughts are happening the more they are wiring together which makes them happen quicker, easier, more automatically. It's like going to the gym and working a muscle, the mind strengths with what you are thinking about. 2. RAS, Reticular Activating System, is your brains filter. It deletes and distorts information in your surroundings depending on what you deem as important. The more you focus on what you are grateful for the more your brains filter will pick up on things in your life that align with gratitude and show them to you, other wise it will literally ignore them. 3. I used to wake up daily with anxiety, there never seemed to be a reason for me having this anxiety but everyday I woke up feeling it. I see so many people online posting about their struggles with anxiety so I wanted to share what I did to overcome it and how I manage it anytime it comes up. Journal This is especially helpful if you are feeling anxious about something but you aren't sure what is causing the anxiety. Writing is linked to the subconscious mind and journaling is a great way to bring light to the issues that are stuck there. As you bring awareness to them it's easy to start reworking them and reframing them to manage your minds fears. 2. EFT Also called Emotional Freedom Technique or Tapping is a fusion of talk therapy and acupressure. Some studies suggest it is as effective as CBT in fewer sessions. Breathwork When your breath is short, shallow and fast paced, it sends a signal to your Central Nervous System to activate the Flight or Fight Response in your body, aka anxiety. Working with your breath is an excellent way to calm anxiety. 4. Movement Motion = Emotion, if you do the same things you have always done you will feel the same way that you have always felt. If I told you that next to me was someone who was depressed and I asked you to described what they looked like you would probably say that they are frowning, they're looking down, they have poor posture. If instead I asked you to describe someone who was excited you could probably describe them as smiling, a sparkle in their eyes, sitting tall, etc. If you can't overcome anxiety from a mental stand point (journaling, EFT, etc.) try taking a physical approach. When you're applying for a job, if you list "perfectionism" as one of your skills on your resume, you might be considered the "ideal candidate", we pride ourselves on being perfect. But perfectionism is an unattainable ideal that stops us from being the best version of ourselves and from creating the life of our dreams. When we choose perfectionism, we are saying "no" to our realness, rawness, authenticity, uniqueness, humanness and vulnerability. What even is "perfect"? If your ideal of perfection and mine are totally different, there is no true "perfection". Our BEST self is the real and authentic version of who we TRULY are, at the core of our being. Showing up in the world as "perfect" is a distraction from who we truly are. It causes us to be "fake", it causes our relationships to lack depth and meaning. It sacrifices real experiences. If you wait until you are perfect or until your life is perfect to start dating, to go to the gym, to start your dream business, to write a book, etc. You will wait your whole life. You won't ever be perfect, your life won't ever be perfect, but it can be REAL.
