In this podcast, we will explore the understanding of the autonomic nervous system and the importance of the 'bottom-up' approach required for trauma recovery within addictions and mental health services.
Working through trauma that is connected to the loss of a loved one is a very difficult ordeal. In the latest episode of Living Beyond Limits, I discuss the science of grief and trauma in the brain, my experiences working with clients who are dealing with grief and trauma, and how others can work through their own loss-related trauma.
What physically happens to your brain when suffering from trauma and subsequently beginning to heal from it? Your brain has the capacity to restore/rewire itself when healing.
How do we get people into inspired change? When we've got a history of trauma in our lives, its very difficult to get into change.  Knowledge is power, but it's not true knowledge unless you've done it and acted on it.
In this episode, Ian looks at trauma form the perspective of 'How do we move beyond the wounds and the imprints of trauma that have significantly impacted our minds, our bodies and our spirits?' Post-traumatic growth cant just occur through one path of thinking. It takes a lot of courage and resiliency to live beyond your trauma. Learn how to think about those paths to best achieve your goals.
In this episode, we continue to look at the intersection of trauma and addictions within mental health. I'll discuss exactly what is happening in the brain when a craving is triggered. And How our nervous system has similar reaction to both trauma and addictions.
In this episode, we continue to focus around trauma and how addictions often occur as a result of longstanding, untreated trauma. We'll also learn the historical roots of addictions in both the academic and spiritual treatments.
In this episode, we look at the history of trauma and how cultures have perceived and managed trauma. Early on, trauma was understood as hysteria, which has sexist, gender negative roots. In the middle ages, those with trauma may have been seen to be possessed by demons.  Listen to this episode to learn more about the history of trauma and how humans have learned about and dealt with the effects on trauma,
