It was meant to end this way. I took a recorder with me on the go, firstly to get my second COVID vaccination, and on the way there I ended up encountering some rather unsavory characters. A couple of days later I paid a visit to Ryan Reich and we gave Brooks Rocco a call. Then the next day I made a deliberate visit to Manhattan for my first time since lockdown to meet up with former L&R producer Doug Johnson, and his son. Parenthood looms and another childhood is about to begin.
Elann went to back to Bushwick for two reasons: 1. Check out Radio Free Brooklyn's brand new studio for the first and last time (featuring fellow RFB stablemate and former L&R guest Calvin Williams as board operator) and 2. Conduct a long sought after interview with Denman C Anderson of Semita Serpens and Statiqbloom. Featured clips include an excerpt of recent Semita Serpins offering "The Sun Peering Into You," a sliver of a decade old ambient horror improvisation entitled "The Devil's Clock As It Strikes Midnight," and an untitled four-on-the-floor banger Denman created specifically for this recording and performed live! statiqbloom.bandcamp.com newyorkhaunted.bandcamp.com

Ep 252 - Dogpile

Brothers Eli and Saul Jacobowitz are Elann's cousins. During their respective college days, very different types of music were made, but collaborations happened occasionally--- specifically with Saul's band American Head. A few select cuts are played from that catalog, hand picked by Eli, who also shared a taste of his own former project Subcontinents (more can be heard at subcontinents.bandcamp.com). Later, Elann unveils sounds from a 1988 family reunion.
Get ready for another blast into the analog past by way of Elann's CD collection circa 1996, featuring none other than 13 year old Elann playing DJ for this edition. Let's just get this over with. (editor's note - 30 seconds in, keep an ear out for parents)
After a three year absence from L&R, Jimmy Hoffman returns one last time to offer his special helping of funny that made the show what it was for so long. Jimmy clears the air on everything from the state of the open mic scene that built his star, to his own incoming journey into fatherhood. Plus, that time he livestreamed himself in drag. Ep 249 - Soopreezed!

2021-04-0458:18

Will and Rachel played a wonderful April Fool's joke on Elann by enlisting a handful of previous guests and friends of the show to surprise him with a Zoom call for what is definitely *not* the last episode of Lost & Rewound but certainly felt like it. Featuring Cerian, Tim Dowd, Olivia Whelan, Noah DeBiase, Timmy Daniels, and Kevin Jones, who composed quite the special intro. *This episode was edited by Will!*
In the hot seat this week is Will's kid brother Sam! Learn about Sam's unlikely yet fulfilling professional path, which took him from Memphis, TN, all the way to Poland, then somehow to Vancouver, British Columbia. Later on, prepare your ears for some truly adorable sounds of a 3 year old Sam from the early 90's. This conversation was a while in the making, and it was well worth the wait.
Ep 247 - Hop Skip

Ep 247 - Hop Skip

Elann surprises wife Robin on their unofficial anniversary & official "meetiversary" by setting up a rather impromptu Zoom recording from their kitchen featuring friends, family, and Rachel Teichman (who, evidently, is both). A rousing evening roundtable includes stories of cats, alcohol, and memories of E+R.
Ep 246 - A For Effort

Ep 246 - A For Effort

Elann reunited virtually with his karaoke komrade Jack Dourakos to learn more about Jack's time as ring announcer Gavin Loudspeaker in the indie wrestling world. In addition to all the wrasslin' talk, we also get brief glimpses into Jack's early life in Baltimore, his new life in L.A., and his recent resurgence back into music. Stick around later for a long overdue duet. (editor's note - shortly after this episode was published Jack found and released the entirety of his old band's material on Soundcloud - soundcloud.com/jack-dourakos)
It's time to get awkward with us! For this rather unusual episode recorded right around Valentine's Day, the crew is joined by actor/writer/comedian Laura Merli! We get the inside scoop on Laura's pre-comedy involvements before transitioning into some angsty college-age writing! Featured are an entry from Laura's diary, a few of Rachel's poems, a brief glimpse into Elann's web journal, and some well placed musical interludes (courtesy of Bleachers and The Push Stars). Follow Laura @passiveabrasive on Twitter, Instagram, and Tik Tok.

MC Days (formerly 12:51, RacecaR) and DJ Jostereo together make up Parisian hip-hop outfit LRS (aka Living Room Soundsystem). On this edition, Days and Jo dish out some highs, some lows, and some uptempo cuts from the early 10's that will leave the listener "stirringly & hopefully, shakingly awakening." Check out @thisisdoombap on Soundcloud and check out the full LRS discography at lrs1.bandcamp.com, which includes the new EP, "Thoughts." (editor's note - i woke up very early in the morning to conduct this interview.) (RIP Double K)
New Jersey-based songwriter Orry Benavides has a lot of thoughts. Some of these thoughts ended up as a series of fiction novels Orry penned for a couple of years. But most of these thoughts would end up being transposed into songs under the name Placeholder Confidential. Equipped with songs old and new, Orry takes the crew of Will, Rachel, and Elann on a voyage into many a topic, including pastiche shoegaze, nautical themes, and a possum sighting.
Hailing from Tucson, AZ, Tommy Cormier, lead singer of Golden Alphabet, is now celebrating his golden anniversary (10 years in NYC!). More gold can be found on this go-around as Tommy shares old and previously unheard sounds of the musical variety. Before you go camping (be it in cold or hot weather), make sure to check out Golden Alphabet's new EP available on Bandcamp! - goldenalphabet.bandcamp.com.
Friend and frequent past guest Matt Finch has been busy lately. When he isn't making music utilizing AI, he's developing something called "Cancelbot" with fellow collaborator Jared Wright. For this first episode of 2021, Jared joins Elann and Rachel to listen to Matt's AI audio, as well as a few choice compositions from Matt's archives, which can be heard at moth.bandcamp.com or slashsound.bandcamp.com.

The final episode for the year serves up a couple of different directions in retrospective! First up is Will, who highlights some of his favorite moments and stories from the first three months of the year, including right about when New York's lockdown had begun! Elann takes over the second half with another quintessential clip collage soundtracked with an "In Memoriam" megamix, featuring favorite show submissions and plenty of flaming banter, terrible dad jokes, and very animated laughter.

Improv teacher, comedian, and video maker Josh Telson returns to the show to bring us up to speed about pandemic life out in Berlin. Plus! Will and Rachel are treated to a healthy smattering of reminiscing, as Josh and Elann go back over three decades. And then! A couple more sounds from Elann's 8th birthday party are played, for good measure and curiosity - what was that board game called? Check Josh's work out at joshtelson.com.

Ep 235 - Hairwaves

2020-11-3056:33

Now based in Pueblo, CO, Rachel's older brother Jeff Teichman even manages to socially distance from the computer screen as he gives us the inside scoop on his love of video games, the playful contention he keeps with his sister, and how dropping out of college ultimately worked out really well for him. Later, Jeff gets to relive his Jersey roots as he is presented home movie footage for the first time in well over a decade. Also, Rachel gets some bad news about a pet hamster. Happy Thanksgiving!
Ep 234 - Fades

Ep 234 - Fades

2020-11-2157:11

A humble human by the name of Wizard Brain (aka Bobby Kirner) joins Rachel and Elann for some conversation about a smattering of topics, such as their NJ upbringing, and what three songs they would play to clear out a bar.* Along with their most recent single "Here We Go," Bobby also provides us with some very chill vibes courtesy of a handful of delightful demos, including one about a space whale. wizardbrain.bandcamp.com *(editor's note: incidentally, bobby was at a bar for this interview.)
