The focus of today's lesson is going to be on God's response to the people's requests where they said, give to us a king. We saw last week that the elders of Israel made a tragic error. They wanted to assimilate and be like the nations, rather than being the treasured people that God had called Israel to be. Last week we emphasize Passover, because that passage of scripture that we spoke of dealt extensively with Passover, and we saw that there was what would be called a Tikkun, or a repair. Well, our theme in this portion of the Book of Numbers is going to be Passover. Now we're going to see that primarily Passover is in the first month on the Biblical calendar. Our God is a God of judgment, but understand a very important biblical truth when you are in a covenantal relationship with God, especially those of us who are part of that new covenant through Messiah, Yeshua, when God judges us, we should think of it more as discipline. Remember what the writer of Hebrews says, the one whom God loves, He will discipline. We are called to always respect God and live in a way that manifests the fear of the Lord before him. And this is important, because if we're going to hear from God and serve God and be found faithful before God, we need to demonstrate a reverence for him in everything that we do. And we're going to see that the Philistines and the Israelites did not demonstrate this proper reverence for the Lord, and because of that, on the day that the Philistines returned the ark of the Lord to Israel, we see that it turned into a day of judgment. In the passage of scripture that we're going to learn from today, we're going to see that it speaks about worship. Now you may say, not directly, but there's a very important principle there concerning worship. And let me begin by saying what that principle is, worship is called to be different. It is not of the world. And here's the key, it should not be mixed with the things of the world.
