GC13 and David discuss The Crocodile Who Bit a Log from the second season of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake.
This episode is definitely Huntress’s show, which we guess is good because she’s got herself together. (Well, after she got herself blown apart.) Green magic rules! Though it looks like there’s a lot more to green magic than she ever knew.
In Fionna’s world she’s where she means to continue with most of the season: making trouble with the best of intentions! Thankfully Baby Finn survives her.
GC13 and David discuss The Hare and the Sprout from the second season of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake.
We’re back in the town Fionna saved last season. Times have been good for her Fionna and her friends. A little too good, actually… Oh well, let’s just enjoy everyone being sorry they fired Fionna in the past (even if she totally deserved it).
Things are looking up. It’s just too bad that Finn is now grievously poisoned from the wound he walked off in season one. That might come back to haunt them…
GC13 and David discuss True Colors from Amphibia.
Now that’s a season finale right there. Action, action, more action, and what’s this? Action! (And don’t forget a stellar acting job by Hopediah!)
Well, Anne definitely is bad at choosing which king to trust. You’d think she’d have learned not to trust the one who’s already betrayed her, but it’s a good thing she’s a slow learned, or we wouldn’t have got to see that epic whoopin’. Now it’s on to Earth.
GC13 and David discuss The Dinner and Battle of the Bands from Amphibia.
Well this is it, our last moment of episodic levity before the plot has to kick back in. For two glorious episodes we get to see Sasha and Grime defending themselves, excusing their previous actions because they only tried to murder everyone once. And it was glorious.
Now it’s just time to hope that Sasha does the right thing. You probably already know whether she does or not, but it would be a waste of a fantastic guitar solo if she doesn’t, right?
GC13 and David discuss Bessie and MicroAngelo and The Third Temple from Amphibia.
MicroAngelo really had a heartwarming episode, he’s finally a part of Bessie’s family! (And has definitely been with us ever since Polly bought him on their trip.)
But Sasha and Grime have come back, and Sasha the Strong aced the temple like it was nothing—and Grime drinks enough Bog Grogs that he maintains his strength even while dehydrated. It’s just too bad that the things they’ve set in motion can’t be stopped.
GC13 and David discuss The Second Temple and Barrel’s Warhammer from Amphibia.
Anne has managed to charge the second stone of the music box (mostly, anyway), and Sasha is on her way to overthrowing the corrupt newt monarchy and replacing it with a corrupt toad monarchy!
While Sasha had to betray her new friends to get where she’s going, Anne is going about her quest the right way. Let’s see where this takes us.
GC13 and David discuss The Shut-In! from Amphibia in honor of the approach of Halloween.
The Shut-In may definitely not be a holiday, but when kids are going door to door with a background of jack-o-lanterns (sorry, fear gourds!) it’s hard not to call it one, even if they’re asking for practical supplies instead of candy.
We get three stories that definitely happened, plus our own spooky happening to Polly—now the entire family has a totally real story to tell on other Shut-In nights.
GC13 and David discuss Toad to Redemption and Maddie and Marcy from Amphibia.
Mayor Toadstool may have come around to loving Wartwood awfully quickly, but who are we to complain? Frog dang it, he’s always been such a fun guy, even when he was ripping the entire town off.
But now that Maddie has moved on to level-two spells, and has a great new bestie, who knows what she’ll be able to accomplish?
GC13 and David discuss New Wartwood and Friend or Frobo? from Amphibia.
Did you know that the buildings in Wartwood are perfectly weighted to not sink into the swamp that the town is built on? That’s a fun fact, Marcy! Now let’s go ahead and add some imported marble facades and a solid gold clock, it will do great things for the atmosphere!
And finally our wandering robot friend has revealed himself to his new family and has been given a name: Frobo. Welcome to the family, Iron Giant.
GC13 and David discuss The First Temple from Amphibia.
Marcy is here and she is locked in. No puzzle is safe from her, and she is unconquerable at flipwart, even when forced to play in hard mode.
Until her opponent starts cheating by equipping its wart with laser-proof armor. That seems rather unfair. At least Marcy learned a valuable lesson, one that perhaps an aspiring conqueror would need to hear.
GC13 and David discuss Ivy on the Run and After the Rain from Amphibia.
We don’t need much excuse to talk about Steven Universe, but not only do we have lies people have told in the past we also have a child running away from a home she thinks doesn’t love or understand her. Odd.
It’s just too bad that Hop Pop didn’t get the same leeway that Felicia did. You’d think that she had way more opportunity and incentive to tell Hop Pop the truth, but who came out of that looking like the cool Mom and who came out looking like the old man who messed up?
GC13 and David discuss Night Drivers and Return to Wartwood from Amphibia.
Considering how long it took them to get to Newtopia, the family made amazing time on their way back! After just twenty hours of driving they’re one night’s drive away from home, and they happen to have a pair of expert night drivers held in reserve.
For how well the residents of Wartwood understood the Plantars, they didn’t seem to understand how much danger they’d be put in by asking for presents. But their loss is our gain: CHICKA-LISK!
GC13 and David discuss The Sleepover to End All Sleepovers and A Day at the Aquarium.
Newtopia gets a beautiful sendoff with a spooky sleepover where we encounter some totally unexplained alien ghosts, followed by a trip to an aquarium where just about everything reminds them of something (or someone) who tried to eat them.
But now the King has a proposition for Marcy. Completely not ominous at all, there are definitely not any villain tropes being used here.
GC13 and David discuss Little Frogtown and Hopping Mall from Amphibia.
Sal’s sandwich stop has been ransacked and it’s up to Hopediah Plantar PI to crack the case. Or at least do his best (he misses some pretty obvious clues we think). And while he may be on the run from a felony manslaughter charge, at least he’s not morally culpable for anything today. Plus: free sauce!
But Anne and Sprig, in the pursuit of the perfect souvenir, end up feeling nostalgic for their mothers. It’s a heartfelt moment, and it’s important enough to change the end credits.
GC13 and David discuss Lost in Newtopia and Sprig Gets Schooled from Amphibia.
Well, we sent the two least-responsible Plantars out into Newtopia on their own, what did we think was going to happen? Frankly it’s surprising things turned out as well for Anne as they did, though maybe if she had been trying to make friends things would have gone better.
But hey, not only did Sprig get schooled by a free day of college education, but we got to learn a bit about the biology of newts and tadpoles. Amphibia may entertain us but it teaches as well (and probably gets into the cool faculty-only parties too).
GC13 and David discuss Scavenger Hunt and The Plantars Check In from Amphibia.
While King Andrias clearly puts a lot of effort into his scavenger hunt, he could clearly use a trip to Summer Camp Island to learn how it’s done from Susie—he doesn’t even send them out for a single earring back!
At least he came through for the Plantars with an unlimited credit card. Sprig has the makings of a good rich snob, so here’s to hoping the Plantars can hang on to this wealth long enough to become old money.
GC13 and David discuss Marcy at the Gates from Amphibia.
The barbarians may not be at the gates, but the barbari-ants are willing to stand in—at least long enough to draw Marcy out! (Thankfully they never thought to tunnel under the gate, that might have caused some problems.)
So now Marcy is on the crew and she and Anne have a new mission. We’re sure Sasha will be glad to see them. What do you think her and Grime’s chess pieces look like?
GC13 and David discuss Swamp and Sensibility and Wax Museum from Amphibia.
Thank goodness Gravity Falls was about a bunch of humans, because Grunkle Stan is evil as a frog! Thankfully Soos is just as goodhearted whether he’s a frog or a human.
And we also learn Wally’s dark secret: he’s filthy stinking rich! Don’t worry Wally, we won’t hold it against you, especially since we can enjoy the fanciness so long as we aren’t paying for it.
GC13 and David discuss Quarreler’s Pass and Toadcatcher from Amphibia.
We’re sorry Quarreler’s Pass, you were a very exciting episode with some very good frog-eating villains, and you even revealed a new superpower shared by Polly and Sprig, but Toadcatcher is a tough act to precede.
And what an act Toadcatcher was. Sasha and Grime are back! If only that newt had let us know who she was…
GC13 and David discuss Truck Stop Polly and A Caravan Named Desire from Amphibia.
Wow, Anne is really sharing the having-a-lesson spotlight today, with Polly learning the first lesson and Hop Pop learning the second.
The point goes to Polly though, for being at an age where learning lessons is a much more common occurrence though, and for not trying to assist in the robbery of a bank to further her acting career.
