The calendar marks October 15 as the World Students’ Day in honour of the former president of India Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, who was born on October 15, 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.
Dr. Kalam occupied some distinguished positions as administrator and scientist with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). His contribution to the Indian military’s missile programs and the country’s civilian space are noteworthy.
Fondly called as The Missile Man of India, Dr. Kalam attained universal popularity for his inspiring lectures and motivational writings especially targeting the students and youth. World Students’ Day endeavors to remember and appreciate the efforts of the icon in promoting the cause of sound learning and motivating the student community in achieving excellence in every sphere of life.

On August 8, 1942 - Mahatma Gandhi told a crowd at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Bombay, "Let every Indian consider himself to be a free man."
Quit India Movement became popular because it was the first major movement by Indians in an attempt to get the British out of their country. The movement was led by Mahatma Gandhi along with many other leaders of that time. When the leaders were arrested, there was total unrest in the country.

National Reading/ Digital Reading Month (June 19th to July 18th) is celebrated to honor the father of the 'Library Movement in Kerala', the late P.N. Panicker, whose death anniversary falls on June 19.
On 19th June, 2017, Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, came down to Kerala and launched the 22nd National Reading/ Digital Reading Month Celebrations at Kochi. The Prime Minister gave a clarion call to propagate the message of “Read and Grow”, to 300 million Indian citizens by 2022 when the country celebrate its 75th year of independence. The Prime Minister directed P.N. Panicker Foundation to promote digital reading also so as to use digital technology in all educational tools of the country.

On May 10th, 1998 Dr. Mohan Kataria celebrated the first ever World Laughter Day in Mumbai, India. He was the founding member of the novel worldwide laughter yoga movement.
He was an eminent and popular family doctor in the suburbs of Mumbai and was practicing professional facial feedback hypothesis as part of his work routine. He researched for many years and postulated that the variations in facial expressions directly impacted human emotions, and that’s how laughter and well being can be regulated.
