HIGHLIGHTS:
“It was a gorgeous day, and I felt that sense of what I longed for…”
“…. acknowledging the freedom you have to choose your next move.”
“Two hours later, are you going to regret the things you did because you were stressed, OR are you going to be proud of your Self for being your Self - your true Self, without all of that stress? I think the only advantage of stress is that it is a signal for us; your body telling you ‘YO YOU’RE IN DANGER!’ So you got to breathe, and then find your way out of that danger.”
“We’ve been training our bodies, and our minds; our Beings, for the past - how many years of life we’ve been living - to be in a state of hyper-stress, and that is our default. That is something we automatically fall into.”
“Even when I wasn’t doing anything, when I was FINALLY granted rest from all these things, I was like, ‘NO, this means I need to do more!’ And then I did more, and then I did too much… and then BOOM, I burnt out. (Breathe) And only when I burnt out, and I was able to knock things off my plate, did I realize… that when I was walking to campus, I was walking through a park. And this whole time I did not realize how beautiful these trees are!”
“We’re really good at human-doing, and we’ve all forgotten the human-BEING. It’s turned into this compulsive mania on a society-wide level; it’s just compulsive; hyper. It’s ‘I always need to be doing something, and if there’s a breath in between the doing, then that’s awful.’”
“HOW LUCKY ARE WE THAT WE GET TO HIT ROCK BOTTOM… on which we get to experience that openness at such a young age.”
“I did that to other people. When I was upset, I hurt others, and it’s really hard to accept that, and to let go of it.”
“Are you just going to keep thinking about what happened, or are you going to look for another opportunity similar to it, so that you can approach it better with this newfound learning?”
“Every single moment - this moment, this moment, and this moment. Every single moment that arises is a totally fresh moment, TOTALLY.”
“Back in elementary school… like when I look back at all the shit I was doing, I’m like ‘WHY, MAN??!’ (Laugh), but in that moment, it felt like the right thing to do; to open up MSN and nudge that girl I was totally feeling, and message her up. But in hindsight I’m like ‘WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING???!!’ (Laugh)”
“If you’re frustrated on the bus - everyone else is frustrated! But imagine if you could be that person that’s just chill; wouldn’t you want to be that person? I’m pretty sure no one likes being frustrated.. but how is it that people still are?”
INSPIRED by SHAKESPEARE: “Things are not good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”
“When your stomach is turning, and you can’t eat - because you’re TOO stressed - you like that shit??”
“It’s this addictive thing: the act of wanting; of not being satisfied with who we already are.”
“We have so many blessings, that sometimes it’s hard to see them all individually.”

Episode Highlights:
“I think the reason you’re starting to prioritize is because as you grow older, the amount of free time you have gets limited. So now you understand the value of the time you have, and you’re like, ‘So why am I going to waste it with people that don’t add any value to my life?”
“There are kids that straight up don’t like me. For whatever reason, I don’t know. I was bullied for God knows what reason, so I’ve learned to accept early that not everyone is going to like you - and I don’t need everyone to like me. I would rather have my boys who are going to be at my wedding; my female friends who are going to be there when my kids are born. All that important stuff, I’d rather them be the ones who like me… I’d rather them be the ones who unconditionally love me.”
[About chilling with true friends] “Before we started this podcast, we were continuing a conversation that we had like a month or two months ago. But it’s like we literally just chilled yesterday.”
“At the end of the day the only person you have to live with is yourself.”
“Yo, my mom still makes me lunch, to this day. And then when I come home, and she snaps at me, I get mad, but then it takes me two seconds to realize I would not have eaten anything today if she didn’t wake up before me and cook.”
“The people you hurt the most are the ones who are closest to you, and it’s not because you want to hurt them, it’s just because they are around you the most.”
“It’s OK to be sad, it’s OK to be hurt, it’s OK to be upset. As long as you’re dealing with it the right way.”
///
“Just tell yourself, ‘yeah I am fucking depressed, I have depression.’”
“I like travelling, so I’m going to follow all these travel videos and pics. When I look through it, I’m going to be like ‘Wow these guys are at all these amazing places but WHERE THE FUCK AM I?!! I’m sitting in my room; in this dark room, doing nothing.”
“THE INSTAGRAM DISCOVER PAGE IS A FUCKING TRAP, DUDE”
“Every situation in my life, every wrong turn I’ve made in my life, and every mistake I’ve regretted, was somehow because of something that happened earlier in my life. Anytime I got physical or got into a fight in high school, and when I went to University and I got depressed about something wrong, it’s because in elementary school I met a brand new group of friends and my old group of friends turned their back on me. And that followed me to this day.”
“It feels so much better to actually be like, ‘OK I am this way because this, this, and this. It’s not my fault; I am not a monster; I am not a horrible person. I was affected by this and it has followed me through life - there’s nothing wrong with that.”
“Am I weak for letting this follow me through my life? Am I weak for letting my inability to get girls in grade 9 follow me through life? Am I weak because of that, or am I human? It’s hard to have those conversations.”
“How much money do we spend on clothes, and on our appearance? We spend so much money on our appearance because we think that’s going to help build our SOCIAL STATUS, but how many people actually spend money on building themselves? Like, going to therapy. Why do people see going to therapy as the last step?”
“You don’t even need a therapist, maybe you just need some form of theraPY, like going to the gym, focusing on your Self, painting, music - something that makes you feel NATURALLY HAPPY without doing anything that affects anyone else. Something that you do, for your Self, that makes YOU happy.”
Thank you so much for listening!

Namaste fam! Welcome to LIT meditation, my name is Mac Gives - I’m still trying to do it for the culture because Toronto is a sick city but I can’t do that if I’m always in my head ja know?
This podcast is brought to you by The FIFA World Cup. I wasn’t much of a soccer/futbol fan but now I’m getting more into it because you know what I do it for the people. When I do it for me, I do it for you too (we’ll talk about that in another podcast.
You are about to meet Carlos Gongora from Cali... NAW not California, Cali in Colombia! South America, baby. So If you enjoy listening to a Spanish accent as much as I do, you’re here for a good time not a long time you know I, a wayyy up I feel blessed!
Oh by the way, Carlos is a….. LAUGHING COACH, whaaat?!?
You’re here right now… for what? Does it matter? You can think of so many other places you could be instead of here, but it’s not like you can magically be THERE right now. Where are you other than here, and are you ready for whatever?
I always tried to control my life but for real fam anything can happen, and that’s so easy to forget because we get into these routines and we like feeling comfortable, but tomorrow can you actually predict what will happen? So, where are you other than here?
While I’m talking to Carlos you’ll hear some wind and cars because we recorded this outside. Take this in. It’s ezER to be calm in the forest but can you do it in the city? Can I do it in the city? Yo let’s try and figure it out together yeah? I really wanna be calm AND still do it for the culture, but right now I am still STRESSED IN THE 6IX!!
Here are the topics we talk about:
Hold up! How did he become a laughing coach?
ARE YOU READY to find out how young this man is?
When you gonna start practicing fam? We talking about practice?! Hell yeah before you kill yourself. I was on Ryerson’s campus one day and saw this quote: "One day, or day one. You decide."
Take time when doing things, be easy on yourself before you kill yourself. I feel like I’m talking to myself because I live on the 25th floor and I remember looking down, thinking, what if I jump? Then the pain will go away... so mean to myself!
EXPECTATIONS CAN KILL YOU, and who’s doing the expecting? Who’s the one posting on instagram and hoping it gets more likes so you can feel better about yourself…. for just a LITTLE BIT and then you want MORE MORE MORE, say no to drugs fam, say no to drugs consumed on a screen!
Would you rather instagram or would you rather have real talks? Remember those, in high school?
Take in you can hear the trucks in the background and it’s EZZ to get annoyed by all these stupid city sounds honking and blaring finessing and shouting, but does being annoyed get rid of them? If you tell them to shutup, will they shut up? You are not in control of the things around you.
You are in control of… you.
It’s 7AM, I was trying to go back to sleep but I remembered the depression days when I would sleep all day, so I’d rather be here right now.
This podcast is brought to you by St. Louis Bar & Grill... so warning you might get hungry!
I am super excited for you right now, and for what you are about to experience.
Question: what can YOU do when you get away from your thoughts so that you can just... Be? And that’s when you’re living your best life!
You’re living a life full of possibilities, and that is killing you!
Oooh! you hate your job eh? Same.
The world is spinning around you and now its more hectic than ever. Would you rather be carried by the storm or would you rather have your feet planted?
So let’s get to it eh?!! This is my conversation over all you can eat wings, with my older brother…
This podcast is brought to you by Kinkaku Izakaya - a sushi restaurant in Kitchener. We actually recorded this in another sushi restaurant but nothing compares to Kinkaku... it IS the love of my life. I was editing this podcast and, listening to our conversation, started craving sushi just one day after eating it. Do you ever wonder, "why isn't there a season's pass for all you can eat sushi?"
I wanna be honest with you guys, when I was deep in my depression I went to sushi all by myself, and watched a movie as I ate. Everyone was on a date with another person; I was on a date with my laptop.
So if your mental health is poop right now or if your stressed nonetheless, you can actually listen to this podcast while you eat somewhere, alone. This is a warning: you will get hungry, so TREAT YO SELF!
This podcast is brought to you by The Fifth Social Club - it’s a Toronto nightclub. We went on a Saturday night and it was POPPIN’, because we had no expectations. You’ll hear us talk about it at the end of the podcast and it could change your life, like it changed mine
So you’ve heard my guy Vince on this podcast before, but this time he brought his little brother - 7 years old - but this little dude spits WISDOM trusss me daddi!
Warning warning warning! You’re gonna hear us do some weird shit on this podcast, but you don’t have to go with it… but if you do, you’re doing something good for yourself, and you’re doing something good for the people around you. Why are you here in the first place?
So I hope you have as much fun as we did, but then again, no expectations. Are you amped, fam?!
No expectations.
This podcast is brought to you by Freshii. My buddy Eric told me we can get $3 off Freshii if we order on Ritual, so that is super dope. While Eric and I were eating and talking we started talking about this podcast and I was like yo I have my mic in my bag right now, wanna record? SPONTANEOUS BABY! So shoutouts to Freshii for being such a cool green space, you can hear all the background noise during our conversation but if you close your eyes you can actually feel like you’re there with us.
The life you want is not going to happen unless you accept what is happening right now, and then you can do something about it. Take in that a difficult situation is only difficult... in your head. While you’re complaining about feeling lazy, someone not as privileged is wishing that they have the luxury of taking a nap on a comfy bed or binge watching Netflix.
OK so now that you know life’s not always going to be as fun as you’d like it to be, what can you do? We ask the question, how can you PLAN your life for success… without being too caught up in that plan? It’s about YOUR Self, not about what’s happening around you. Plan YOUR Self, but you can’t plan how life goes. You are only in control of what you are doing right now.
Do you believe that things happen for a reason? Eric and I randomly saw each other at a street festival and then we randomly started recording a podcast in Freshii. Does that mean something? Or does it have to mean something? It’s fun to tell stories, but if I keep thinking about that, I’d be stuck in my head. And then I’m no longer living!
The most important thing to learn about in this whole world… is yourself. if you take a step back, you have an advantage in a society where everyone is always stepping forward. You’re alive, breathing, and calm. You have a clear head, while everyone else is going going going.
And finally, what are you going to do with all this information? You want to change your life, so you start thinking about it, then you start reading about it, you talk to other people about it. Ok now you know how to do it… are you gonna do it?
I hope you guys enjoyed that as much as I did, definitely some good things I want to try in my life. Remember, If you’re going through hell, just keep going. But just know that you are here right now. That really makes me happy.
This podcast is brought to you by Headspace.
In the beginning we meditate, and it is so tough to stay mindless the whole time. Your mind’s like “Alright what do I have to do today, what should I eat today? Oh crap I forgot I have to do that other thing today too, but seriously will I have time to even eat?? ... Why am I meditating right now??” YO WATCH OUT!!!!!
Take in how easy it is to get caught up in all of that and then you realize… what’s the point of even being here right now if you’re just thinking about what’s happening later, about things that you don’t even know for sure are going to happen? What’s the point of even being here right now?
And with this clear head, TRUSS ME you will do the things you want to do but even better, because you’re actually THERE. Not yet though!
You want to be perfect at this, because you want to feel good, and then what happens when you don’t do it? No expectations, no expectations! Because the only thing you can control is what you’re doing right now, and what you’re doing right now, and right now, and right now, and right now, and right now.
Every moment is yours. Now you’re in control.
This podcast is brought to you by sticky notes.
My name is Mac Gives - my friends call me Keith but, what do they know? Just kidding! My friends are dope.
In fact, every Saturday morning, I got two buddies of mine, Antonio and Bilal, call me and ask me how I’m doing, every Saturday morning!
And, honestly... it’s changing my life, because I can be honest about my depression and anxiety. And that’s the first step right?
So we recorded one of those conversations for you, because if it’s changing my life, maybe it could change your life too?
This was such a silly conversation - you’ll hear it - like the ones you would have when you’re just being your Self with your friends.
Now... you could be listening to me interviewing a famous person but how awesome is it that you’ve got someone closer to you? A friend. This is not a celebrity dealing with depression, this is the person beside you on the bus. This is the person that you’re messaging on your phone.
So in the beginning, we ask each other: what is one thing you are proud about this week?
ONE thing, because even if you haven’t cured cancer this week at least you loved more, at least you felt just a little happier than you’re used to. Honestly that really is something to be proud of!
And then we ask each other, what did you learn this week?
Because no matter what you try, the only way to fail is to not learn anything from it - yo shoutouts to fortune cookies still ahlie!
And then, what did you guys struggle with this week?
Like my cousin Kendrick Lamar has said: SIT DOWN, BE HUMBLE. That way, you can really improve.
And then: what are you going to commit to next week?
You have to be specific, and you have to be able to measure it. You’ll see what I mean.
Too easy to beat yourself up for what you did;
or for what you didn’t.
yet, Here you are.
