Not what I wanted to be putting out by RIP to my dear cat Boots who died yesterday - 13/12/25. She was an excellent cat, friend and daughter to me, I loved her so much and she was my family. I know many of you will know how much this hurts so thank you for understanding, this was not what I wanted to be doing at all, everything was very sudden and not expected but she was an old lady at 14 and she had a wonderful life. My brain is not in the game to be editing and putting things out so I'll see you all in 2026. Not a beg at all but just being very honest that if I don't put content out, I don't get paid so if you've ever considered patreon or want to use my KOFI or PayPal, that would be very useful and also help with the vet bills but as always, please don't be offended or upset if you don't want to or can't afford to, it's 100% fine and the pre and post roll ads on this ep are automatic. Just giving the option for those who can and would like to. You can also download old episodes and listen as that helps as well. Thanks so much for understanding, being kind and knowing that grief is a tricky beast.See you in 2026. www.patreon.com/macabrelondonhttps://ko-fi.com/macabrelondonpaypal.me/macabrelondon Hosted on Acast. In December 1888, when London’s East End was still haunted by the fear of Jack the Ripper, another woman was found strangled in the street: Rose Mylett. And just like that, the terror returned. This episode takes you deep into the investigation that never reached a conclusion — a tragic death brushed aside by authorities desperate for normality at Christmas. Who killed Rose? And why did the case fade into the fog of history? We’ll also step through the East End’s bleak holiday reality — overcrowded slums, freezing workhouses, and empty tables — and how Charles Dickens played an unlikely part in transforming Christmas into a moment of hope.Perfect for fans of unsolved mysteries, historical true crime, and eerie Victorian storytelling.Todays episode is sponsored by Wolf Escape Games - www.wolfescapegames.com - to get your special discount code of 30% off any game or bundle. Forensic science is now one of the most powerful tools in crime investigation — but its journey began in the shadows of London’s darkest cases. In this episode of Macabre London, we trace the evolution of forensics through the crimes that pushed science to its limits. We begin with the first-ever conviction using a fingerprint, a moment that changed policing forever. From there, we step into the disturbing case of Patrick Mahon, whose brutality forced investigators to invent new forensic techniques simply to piece his crime together. We move forward into the mid-20th century to examine how the chilling actions of serial killers Reg Christie and Dennis Nilsen broadened the scope of forensic investigation — from body recovery to behavioural patterns and beyond. Then, we look at how modern forensic advancements reopened previously unsolved cases, most notably the landmark case of Stephen Lawrence, where new technology finally gave investigators the tools needed to secure long-awaited justice. Finally, we explore how forensics operates when the crime scene spans an entire city — through the extraordinary investigative efforts following the 7/7 London bombings, where thousands of pieces of evidence had to be located, logged, analysed, and understood. If you love dark history, true crime, and the hidden mechanics of how cases are solved, this episode uncovers the science, the stories, and the London crimes that changed everything.Todays episode is sponsored by Wolf Escape Games - www.wolfescapegames.com - to get your special discount code of 30% off any game or bundle. In this next chapter of our Crime & Punishment in the Capital City series, we explore a story often overlooked in the darker corners of London’s past: the long and brutal fight for women to earn their place in the Metropolitan Police. From early moral guardians to undercover operatives, and eventually, fully empowered officers, the women who patrolled London’s streets faced resistance at every turn. Their uniforms were criticised, their authority questioned, and more than once their very existence within the force was nearly erased. But they fought back—quietly, strategically, and with unwavering resolve. In this episode, we uncover the scandals, political battles, and public panics that shaped the rise of female policing up to the present day. We’ll meet the pioneers who walked these fog-shrouded streets long before society believed they should, and discover how their work changed crime-fighting in the capital forever.Perfect for fans of dark history, untold stories, social history, women’s rights history, London lore, and true crime documentaries. Please check out our sponsor - London Nootropics at www.londonnootropics.com and use the discount code MACABRE at checkout to receive 20% off any order.Todays episode is sponsored by Jeff Wayne's The War Of The Worlds The Immersive Experience - www.waroftheworldsimmersive.com - to get your special discount code of £10 off any two or more tickets purchased. Before Scotland Yard... before the Met Police... there was chaos. In this episode of Macabre London, we uncover the wild, booze-soaked origins of Britain's very first police force – the Bow Street Runners. But these weren’t your average crimefighters. Oh no. These were drunken, brawling, and occasionally criminal men who blurred the lines between justice and disorder.Led by an eccentric magistrate and paid with public funds (and sometimes beer), this ragtag group laid the foundations for modern policing... but not without raising a few eyebrows and knocking out a few teeth along the way.🔪 Were they heroes? Hooligans? Or something much more complicated?🕵️♀️ Join me as we delve into the weird and bloody history of the 1700s crime-fighting gang who were meant to protect the streets — but often caused just as much trouble. This episode is sponsored by Little Rick - you can get 10% off your order:https://littlerick.co.uk/NIKKIMACABRELONDONAnd use the offer code:NIKKIMACABRELONDONCBD products are not suitable for listeners under the age of 18 or for pregnant or breast feeding people. ------------------------🔪 If you love British true crime, unsolved mysteries, and historical murders, don’t miss this episode!-------------------------Be sure to check out my other podcast, Killers, Cults & Queens https://podfollow.com/queens---------------------------SUPPORT ME————————ONE OFF DONATIONS: Paypal - paypal.me/macabrelondonKO-FI: ko-fi.com/macabrelondonPATREON: www.patreon.com/macabrelondonAMAZON WISHLIST - https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/...MERCH! - https://macabrelondon-shop.fourthwall...——————————-Thank you to our executive producer patrons - Christina, Heathers Leg, Mary, Matilda, Ravelle, Sally, Sam, Sarah, Sarah A, Terri & VeronicaAnd to all of our wonderful £5 tier patrons...AmyAndreaAndrewBoudiccaClaire RClaire SCreepy PaperDavid RDeniseHelenIngeJoJTKathrynKellyKyleeLindalLizShannonStephThe Paranormal PrincessVeeZozoLAMAnd thanks to all other patrons too!————————SOCIAL MEDIA---------------------------------------------Insta: @nikkimacabrelondonX: @macabrelondonTikTok: @macabrelondonFacebook: @macabrelondonEmail: macabrelondon@hotmail.com---------------------------------------------Sources:https://archive.org/details/constabularyrise0000seni/page/26/mode/2uphttps://www.salisburycivicsociety.org.uk/news/unveiling-of-blue-plaque-friday-6th-january/https://blog.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/2019/04/11/the-mysterious-affair-of-elizabeth-canning/https://www.litencyc.com/php/stopics.php?rec=true&UID=1403https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_enforcement_in_the_United_Kingdom Hosted on Acast. In this episode of Macabre London, we uncover the astonishing true story of the Chevalier d'Éon — a master spy, decorated soldier, and diplomat in 18th century France who became one of the first openly transgender or gender-nonconforming public figures in recorded history.D'Éon led a double life in the shadowy world of Louis XV’s secret intelligence network, using diplomacy, disguise, and blackmail to survive the cutthroat politics of the French royal court. After years of military service and espionage, d’Éon stunned the world by publicly presenting as a woman — sparking international intrigue and political scandal. But was this a revolutionary act of gender expression, or a carefully calculated move to protect royal secrets?Join me as I explore D’Éon’s incredible life — from fencing duels and spy missions across Europe, to a post-mortem discovery that left Victorian London reeling. With themes of identity, survival, and political manipulation, this episode delves deep into one of history’s most fascinating and misunderstood figures.Todays episode is sponsored by London Nootropics. Before London had the Met, it had chaos. In this episode of Macabre London, we uncover the strange and often deadly story of how policing began in the city—from the drunken "Charlies" who fell asleep on the job, to the terrifyingly informal Hue and Cry system that let ordinary citizens legally execute criminals on sight. And let's not forget Jonathan Wild: the man who invented organised crime while pretending to be its biggest enemy.Join me as we dig into the murky underworld of Georgian crime, shady law enforcement, the wilderness years of the gin craze and how all of this laid the foundation for modern policing... even if that foundation was built on fear, corruption, and a lot of laudanum.Todays episode is sponsored by London Nootropics.
