Stay connected at www.startuphc.comPrior to the 1980s, most Point of Sale interactions consisted of cash or check exchanges at clunky checkout machines that were limited to a single store’s accounting information. But with the invention of the microprocessor, slowly, cash registers evolved into much more complex machines that allowed Point of Sale transactions to become quicker, more accurate, more connected, and more helpful for companies trying to track their financials. One of the people who saw the potential of this was Pete Catoe. And in 1989 he decided to start a company that specialized in POS transactions utilizing electronic cash registers. He called this business ECRS, or Electronic Cash Register Services. And today, it’s known as one of the most sustainable employers of the High Country.Tune in to hear the story of how ECRS came to be built and the important lessons Pete Catoe learned along the way.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Stay in the loop at startuphc.comToday on our show, you’ll get to know one of our team members here at Startup High Country, and the man with his finger on the pulse of ALL things tech in the High Country, Declan Nishiyama.Something I’ve always taken for granted about Declan was a false assumption that his life has always revolved around software development and coding, however, I found out during this interview that that wasn’t the case at all. In fact, practically all of Declan’s coding and tech skills have been self-taught, and his journey into the world of development has been anything but straight-forward.In today’s episode you’ll learn how some false, yet well-intentioned advice combined with a close call with the FBI led Declan far away from the tech world, but then, how a harrowingly close call for what could have been a catastrophic chemical explosion helped propel Declan back into the world of software development. You’ll also learn a bit about AI, gaining clarity in your business, and ways to get involved in the tech scene here in the High Country.Connect with Declan at: MountainDev.comJoin our newsletter at: startuphc.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

From a very early age, Jeffrey pushed back against what he calls the "Societal Treadmill."
