Description

Jon and Maggie are married and love to talk about the stuff they're into, either by themselves or with their friends, which leads to all kinds of different topics, or content, if you will.
Featuring:
Married with Comics-Jon and Maggie paraphrase panels, explain exposition, and comment on some of their favorite comics.
Transformers: The Rodpod-Jon M Wilson joins Jon and Maggie on a trip hurtling through space, with only the IDW Phase 2 Transformers comics to entertain themselves.
Married watching Cartoons: Jon and Maggie take turns introducing the other to a cartoon they aren't as familiar with.
Married with Clues minisodes: Jon and Maggie read each other Encyclopedia Brown stories and try to solve mysteries meant for 10 year olds.

And whatever else we come up with.

A Halloween crossover so epic that it had to wait until Thanksgiving! This crossover is  huge that it needed to add a brand new podcast! Mephisto sends the Podcasters to Rutland, Vermont to cover the first unofficial Marvel/DC crossover. Listen to all of these podcasts to get the whole story: Married with Crossovers (MWC) Podcast with Jon and Maggie!  The Ninjas and Bots Podcast! Unpacking the Power of the Power Pack! Resurrections: The Adam Warlock and Thanos Podcast! Plus Sean Ross, formerly of The Secret Wars and Beyond podcast! Thanksgiving 2023
In Married Watching Cartoons, Jon and Maggie take turns introducing the other to a cartoon they may not be as familiar with.  This episode, Sean Ross from Secret Wars and the Bat Pod basically wouldn't let us do this episode without him, so here he his!  We talk about quoting lines from cartoons as a means of seduction, muse about what Sean's baseball career would have been like if he'd never seen this episode, decide how a made-up-for-this-episode cyborg stacks up against other cartoon villains in and out of the Marvel Universe and cast our own Spider-Friends!
Jon and Maggie are watching cartoons while remaining married the entire time!   Maggie's favorite thing ever is Pokemon while Jon knows it mostly as a collectible card game that he never played but complained about a lot.  How will Jon feel about The Fortune Hunters?  How many Pokemon can Maggie name in 30 seconds?  Prepare for trouble.  Better make it double.
Welcome to our new format!  Jon and Maggie are taking turns introducing the other to cartoons that the other may not be as familiar with. On our debut episode, Jon introduces Maggie to the Smurfs!  Take time out of the craziness of real life for some escapism.  Jon brings in King Smurf, an episode which *checks notes* shows the Smurfs descend into full-on fascism as half of them develop a cult-like worship of one of their own which almost destroys them all. ...   Look, we recorded this awhile ago, we swear.     Send comments and show suggestions to: marriedwatchingcartoons@gmail.com
It's your (week) daily dose of Star Trek!  Maggie and Jon are joined by Layne from Batman Books: The Dark Knight In Prose podcast to read through Diane Duane's amazing Star Trek novel, The Wounded Sky, one chapter at a time, releasing episodes (roughly) once a weekday until we have the whole thing read. Maggie reads chapter 4, in which the Enterprise gets attacked by  Klingons. The only way they will be able to engage the Inversion drive before being destroyed is to destroy the Klingons first. Not to worry, there are only 7 Klingon ships. Layne appears courtesy of http://thebatmanuniverse.net/ Buy Diane Duane ebooks at bit.ly/EBD50PctSale Send feedback to marriedwcomics@gmail.com
Quarantine side project alert!  Maggie and Jon are joined by Layne from Batman Books: The Dark Knight In Prose podcast to read through Diane Duane's amazing Star Trek novel, The Wounded Sky, one chapter at a time, releasing episodes (roughly) once a weekday until everyone has their very own Wounded Sky audiobook! On this episode, Jon reads Chapter 3, where we learn more about the mysterious Inversion Drive and may accidentally learn a little about theoretical physics in the process, as the technobabble deals with De Sitter Space, Megabubbles and other mind-blowing concepts as only Diane Duane can deliver.   Layne appears courtesy of http://thebatmanuniverse.net/ Buy Diane Duane ebooks at bit.ly/EBD50PctSale Send feedback to marriedwcomics@gmail.com
Quarantine side project alert!  Maggie and Jon are joined by Layne from Batman Books: The Dark Knight In Prose podcast to read through Diane Duane's amazing Star Trek novel, The Wounded Sky, one chapter at a time, releasing episodes (roughly) once a weekday until everyone has their very own Wounded Sky audiobook.  An audiobook with very amateur readers with questionable abilities to ape Scottish accents, and sound effects that are all over the place, but you can't beat the price!
Ryan Daly from the Fire and Water Podcast network mentioned in passing that we should watch the cartoon, Bluey for a Married Watching Cartoons. Ryan was right! Join, Ryan, Maggie, and I as we talk about 3 episodes of what could be the best show of any medium currently running.
Another daily dose of #StarTrek as Layne from Batman Books: The Dark Knight in prose reads chapter 2 of Diane Duane's The Wounded Sky.  We meet one hell of an interesting new alien species, find out what officers do for fun when they're off shift and see the prototype for the holodeck.  All just a download away.   Layne appears courtesy of http://thebatmanuniverse.net/ Buy Diane Duane ebooks at bit.ly/EBD50PctSale Send feedback to marriedwcomics@gmail.com
Could it be?  A new episode of Married with Comics?  You know it! Careful listeners of our show may have noticed that Maggie has occasionally voiced a negative opinion on Jimmy Olsen, so Coffee and Comics and Fan Films Fridays host Clinton Robison pops by with DC Comics Presents #93 to join Jon with 1990's Superman #93 and Maggie with 2019's Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #1 to get to the bottom of this. Find out if Maggie's irrational hatred is enough to withstand wacky stretchy hero shenanigans, Superman rescuing Jimmy from Hell,  Superman rescuing Turtle Boy from falling from orbit, and Jimmy faking his death and hiding out in Gotham City We also sing way more of the Plastic Man song from the Justice League Record than is probably comfortable and Maggie also expresses her opinion on the Spin Doctors.  Also we debut a new feature: Married with Context, where we talk about what else was going on during the months that the issues were on the stands.  Find out if Maggie's hatred is here to stay or if she stops worrying and learns to love Jimmy Olsen.
Maggie and Jon split a 6 pack of White Claw and talk about all of the movies they've seen since their last movie episode, including all of the #Star Wars movies up through The Last Jedi.
Halloween means Mephisto has kidnapped us again for a crossover, this time trapping us in the Dream Realm and forcing us to review comics for his amusement.  But our torment is your opportunity, as Al Sedano From Resurrections: an Adam Warock and Thanos Podcast and Jon M Wison, comics podcast mainstay join us to cover Sandman #17: Calliope and try to escape the realm of dreams.     Content Warning:  The issue covered includes a brief, non-graphic, rape scene, which is discussed. Make your listening choices with that in mind.   Thanks so much to our guests as well as to Tim Price, who not only does a hell of a Mephisto as usual (see what I did there? But a perfectly eerie Morpheus, the Dream Lord.  Listen to him here as well as on the rest of the crossover episodes on:   Unpacking the Power of Power Pack Secret Wars and Beyond  (I hear they have some awesome guests) and Resurrections: An Adam Warlock and Thanos Podcast
On Monday, we watch a movie. On Tuesday, We record ourselves ramble about what we think. On Wednesday, we publish the results pretty much unedited.   Maggie chose Cat on a Hot Tin Roof this week, a movie she's seen many times, and Jon had never seen. They also talk a bunch about the play it is based on, and the life and death of Tennessee Williams.
Square Women, Round Table

Square Women, Round Table

2019-09-0401:45:12

Jon takes a vacation this time around as Maggie hosts a round table of amazing women podcasters, who talk about a comic each of them has chosen.  Stella From Batgirl to Oracle: A Barbara Gordon Podcast brings Batgirl (Vol 3)#3, Layne from Batman Books: The Dark Knight in Prose has chosen Batman and Elmer Fudd, and Barbara from A Gal Walks Into a Comic Shop introduces us to Lucky, the Pizza Dog with Matt Fraction's Hawkeye #11.  Maggie rounds things out with Alan Moore's Swamp Thing #40, a man's take on women's issues. Join them for Square Women, Round Table.  A podcast with all of the wit, humor, and knowledge that you would expect with this lineup, with none of the mansplaining that inevitably would have happened if Jon had been on!

New Year New Episode! Jon and Maggie are joined by Bob and Barbara from A Gal Walks Into a Comic Show as we finish our Gaming Series by talking about Rick and Morty vs Dungeons and Dragons, one of the best comics of 2018.  And since defeating him in a crossover isn't enough to make him go away, Mephisto drops in to cast Zone of Gaming Truth.  Will they survive with their sanity intact? I mean, yes, obviously, but tune in to hear all about it!
New episode!  Join Maggie and Jon as they read through and review issues 7 and 8 of IDW's More Than Meets the Eye comics series.  We meet the DJD who is scary as hell, and their leader Tarn, who could be the nastiest Decepticon in the series.  We talk about the ramifications of eons-long warfare, good and evil in terms of the same, and the occasionally gray area between million year campaigner and war criminal.  These and other fun topics on episode 10 of The Rod Pod!
You have received a new transmission from the Rod Pod. Jon and Maggie are trapped in a spacecraft shaped like Rodimus' head with only their cats and occasional issues of IDW's Transformers comics that the Autobot Sky Lynx periodically drops by.  No one knows why any of this is happening.   This month, Sky Lynx has brought Robots in Disguise issues 7 to 9, which includes the first part of the Combiners Wars.  Things get tense on the political front as moral compromises get considered and the environment of Cybertron reveals its biggest threat yet!   Send questions and comments to marriedwatchingcartoons@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter: @MWC_Podcast  and @maggientherain
New Episode!  Maggie's video game shenanigans summon Aaron Henley to the Rod Pod, who helps us out as we cover Autocracy, the prequel story which only kind of ties into Phase 2 comics, but we cover it anyway!  Join us for Last Starfighter jokes, discussion on the relative worth of Ratbat and Sky Lynx, and Maggie getting excited about a version of Rodimus that isn't a complete dink.  Also The Touch, Less Than Meets the Eye, and Rodimus Star awards are given.  Upload complete...now.
