Matt Gaetz got one step closer to the orange jumpsuit last week when it was revealed that he allegedly paid for sex via Venmo. The paper trail discovered by the Daily Beast is likely just the beginning of more terrible receipts to come. Then Michael discusses the GOP’s recent Palm Beach retreat. Finally, New York Magazine’s, Olivia Nuzzi joins Mea Culpa to discuss Gaetz, Trump and what’s next for the GOP.
It’s another jampacked episode of Mea Culpa! First, Michael sifts through the sordid wreckage of America’s Creepiest Politician as we learn new details about Matt Gaetz and his taste for young girls. It’s alleged that the Florida Rep lured girls as young as 17 to hotel rooms for sex romps on the club drug ecstasy. Later, as the Justice Department investigated his behavior, Gaetz sought a preemptive pardon from Donald Trump during the chaotic, final days of his administration. Later, John Dean, the OG, Washington operator and former Nixon White House Counsel, joins Mea Culpa to discuss Trump vs Nixon, Michael’s own legal issues and how Nixon would’ve felt about the Donald. DON’T MISS THIS EPISODE!
Michael discusses how the latest capital killing reopened the wounds of January 6th making him realize the depth of our own national trauma from what has become a ceaseless cycle of violence. Then Anand Giridharadas, author of Winners Take All, joins Mea Culpa to discuss President Biden’s bold plan to put Big Government to work.
Mea Culpa examines the bizarre and sleazy sex trafficking investigation into Congressman Matt Gaetz. Michael remembers his own history with Gaetz and how the Florida rep taunted him and threatened his family before testifying in front of the House Select Committee. The Gaetz story is just developing and promises to be a doozy. Finally, Matt Taibbi joins Mea Culpa to dish on the news of the day.
Sidney Powell’s admission that her 2020 election conspiracies were nothing more than a steaming pile of bullshit has Trump World scurrying for cover. Meanwhile, Trump himself continues the lie with appearances on Fox News that characterize the January 6th Insurrection as a bunch of patriots hugging and kissing. Michael then examines how Trump’s lie continues to reverberate, especially within Georgia after Governor Kemp signed new ugly and regressive voter suppression legislation. Finally, Molly Jong Fast joins Mea Culpa!
Michael takes time to address America’s gun crisis in the wake of two mass shootings in Atlanta and Boulder, Colorado. Then some good news as Sidney Powell admits in Federal Court that her entire Kraken Conspiracy was completely made-up. Her admission may set the stage for Rudi Giuliani to face charges in Fulton, County Georgia as they advance their election probe. Finally, Jennifer Weisselberg, ex-daughter in law of Allen, the Trump’s Organization’s financial eyes and ears spills her long held secrets.
A deep dive into the Manhattan DA’s investigation into Donald Trump and the Trump Organization. One month after the Supreme Court ordered the release of Trump’s tax records and related financial documents the case against him is likely nearing the indictment stage. Investigators are now looking to flip Trump’s longtime CFO Allen H Weisselberg, the keeper of the family’s financial secrets. Then we take a trip down to Cuomo town and look into the trifecta of scandals plaguing the embattled Governor. Finally, Politico’s Sam Stein joins Mea Culpa to dish on the latest news out of Washington.
Mea Culpa examines the growing evidence that the January 6th Storming of the Capital was incited and lead by a few very violent actors; including a 100 member contingent of the Proud Boys who were some of the very first rioters to breach the capital building. We take an inside look at the case against their leadership and how it was possible the FBI underestimated them as an extremist threat. Then we look at how Rudy Giuliani became Russia’s most useful idiot and an unwitting dupe for disinformation. Later Michael speaks with intelligence expert, author and MSNBC contributor Malcolm Nance about the coming extremist storm.
Mea Culpa examines the right wing media’s attempt to white wash the Capital Riot. Lawmakers and pundits keep trying to paint the January 6th insurrection as either the work of Antifa or outside “agent provocateurs,” sent to disrupt an otherwise peaceful gathering. Like the Big Lie that begat January 6th, the more these outlets push this alternative history, the more people are prone to believe what they read or hear. Michael speaks with former Obama White House Ethics Czar and Special Counsel to the House Judiciary Committee Norman Eisen.
Mea Culpa celebrates President Joe Biden’s first major legislative victory with the passage of the $1.9 Billion Covid Relief Package. Merrick Garland is confirmed as Attorney General and vows to fight domestic extremism while the walls close in on Roger Stone. Then it’s all the Trump news fit to shit. We look at the latest in Cy Vance’s investigation into Trump’s finances and spotlight the growing feud between Trump and the GOP over using his name and likeness for fundraising. Then Michael speaks with Jason Flom, host of the Wrongful Conviction Podcast about the rot and corruption inside America’s prison system.
An inside look at the decade’s long, toxic nightmare Andrew Cuomo created for his workers. From bullying and screaming to unwanted sexual advances, working for Cuomo was hellish in every way. Then the latest civil suit filed against Donald Trump for his role in inciting the January 6th insurrection. Finally, Spencer Ackerman, Senior National Security Correspondent for the Daily Beast joins Michael to discuss the domestic terror threat. At this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference, the GOP continued its complete and total embrace of Donald J. Trump. Mea Culpa travels down the MAGA rabbit hole to deliver an analysis from Orlando to find out who’s saying what and why. Next we speak to Daily Beast Senior Reporter Lachlan Cartwright about the Manhattan DA’s growing investigation of the former president and the likelihood of future indictments. The Supreme Court issued a terse 16 word decision that cleared a path for the Manhattan District Attorney to finally receive eight years of Donald Trump’s tax records and related documents. With Donald Trump’s impeachment trial in the rearview mirror, the criminal and civil prosecution of the former President has only just begun. The push to impeach Trump may have failed on political lines, but he will likely not fare as well in a court of law. Thus, lawmakers and prosecutors have begun targeting the former president for his role in the January 6TH riot with a series of lawsuits that place the blame for the carnage on Trump’s shoulders. It ended how it began, with Democrats proving an airtight case that showed Donald Trump’s absolute guilt but the GOP refusing to acknowledge the facts in the case. They knew Trump was guilty and hid behind arcane constitutional arguments to let themselves off the hook with MAGA voters. Later Michael speaks with “All Gas No Brakes” creator Andrew Callaghan about conspiracy, the Proud Boys and how half this country brainwashed itself into becoming lunatic MAGA supporters. This was one of my least favorite episodes. I was so disappointed in the flat, underdeveloped and often superficial observations made by Ms.Nuzzi. I felt like I was listening to a junior year undergraduate political science student trying to assert newfound vocabulary and ideas... perhaps the political beat for the NYT is the new entry beat, like the police or local court beats were years ago. In any case, I do enjoy the podcast and did listen to entire interview with Ms. Nuzzi.

Wow, this guest is really pushing the type of communism that history has shown is a false utopia. His form of the USSA is definitely not what Biden is doing! Even China figured out that Communism doesn't work in 1978. The Soviet crashed in 1991. Does this guest really think that printing money is a limitless bucket? He doesn't seem to know what happened to the Weimar Republic, Zimbabwe, or Argentina.

I am sick of the bad apple argument. Let's not forget that the old phrase is ONE bad apple spoils the barrel. I don't give a shit how many or few there are, the whole damned barrel is fucked and needs to be dumped in a hole. 👎☠️
