They say it takes 30 days to build a habit, right? Oh contraire. I completely disagree. It depends on a lot of factors: How long you've been doing the current habit, how much you enjoy the current habit, how much you dislike the new habit, what you tell yourself about doing the new habit, what you've been taught through parents, friends, society about both the old and new habits and if you "think" about the habit for 30 days but only do the habit 20 days, how many days have you actually worked on building the new habit? Often we can't just go through the motions and expect results. This episode will give you one piece of advice that will change how long it takes for you to build a new habit.  Not only would I love you to share my podcast with your friends and family, I'm just about to launch a new freebee I can't wait to share with you that will help you be more consistent with your new habits! I am listening to an audio book right now about building your podcast and it mentioned something that I think applies to more than just the podcasting world, but to new habits in general. Easier Said Than Done

Easier Said Than Done

2022-11-0812:01

How many times have you said (or heard) it's easier said than done? This is a true statement in many ways, but it can be used as an excuse. We have the ability to hit the manual override in our brain and not give into the survival brain trying to tell us that it is easier not to do it. We need to help our goals come to fruition and if we give into these sort of statements it can make the road so much more difficult. Habits take time to build, but what we say to ourselves, our self talk, makes a huge difference in how we feel about the tasks we're working on. I'd love for you to share my podcast with your friends and family. My goal is to provide value to as many people as possible. The more people that hear my podcast, the more people that can benefit from the tips and tools. Anxiety can be debilitating. It can make reaching goals feel impossible. It can make working on new habits feel hopeless. Anxiety makes everything so much more difficult. And whereas it is something we need, it is aggravating when it tries to prevent us from taking steps to be better. Things like "you'll just fail again" or "you'll look like an idiot going to the gym like that" can cause the survival part of the brain to activate making it very difficult to do what we so badly want to do. There are a few things you can do to break free from this prison, however and today's episode will give you a few tips. I'd love for you to share my podcast with your friends and family. My goal is to provide value to as many people as possible. The more people that hear my podcast, the more people that can benefit from the tips and tools. It is not easy to stay motivated and focused on your goals. There are so many things that get in the way. But worst of all is ourselves. We can be our own worst enemy! Self control is not usually innate. It is something learned. When we're resisting something using self-control, we're fighting the survival part of our brain saying "I need this NOW"...kind of like a toddler. We don't give into the toddler's temper tantrums...hopefully! So why give into our own temper tantrums? Learning and using self control is not easy as it goes against survival, but we have a crap-ton of logic that we can use to help us through the difficult times. So stay tuned to this episode so you can start working on your self control today. I'd love for you to share my podcast with your friends and family. You Are Not Alone

You Are Not Alone

2022-10-1818:05

Sometimes when we look at people who are currently where we want to be, we think "they've always been successful" or "they've never been through something; they don't understand". Sometimes it's hard to see that the people who are doing amazing may have come from very difficult backgrounds themselves. The human brain has the capacity to overcome so much and we have the ability to hit the "reset" button or the "override" button anytime. But how often do you do that? How often do you say "I messed up but I'm starting over right now" versus "I'll try again tomorrow" or "I'm a failure". As long as you're trying, you are not a failure. In this episode I share a bit about my struggles with consistency and how my mindset varies from one thing I love to another and how that impacts my results. Mindset, the way we look at something and what we tell ourselves about that thing goes a long way to our ultimate success or failure at whatever it is we're working on. I'd love for you to share my podcast with your friends and family. My goal is to provide value to as many people as possible. We all fall off the wagon with our goals. Heck, I did a podcast just a couple of weeks ago because I was slipping with my podcasts. But here we are doing another one to make sure I'm using the same tools I teach you. I can make all the excuses in the world but I just have to take responsibility for my own actions or lack of action and so do you for your action or lack of action on your goals. This week I will provide a few more tips to help when you seem to be falling off the wagon and aren't sure how to get back up because your brain is telling you things like "you're a failure" "don't bother" or other unhelpful things. I'd love for you to share my podcast with your friends and family. My goal is to provide value to as many people as possible. Sometimes the day goes by so quickly. There's not enough time to exercise, meal prep, eat a healthy meal, meditate, do some yoga, etc. And when we do find time to do it, it's like checking a check-box. Good, exercise is done. But what benefit did you REALLY get from it? And were you compromising your form and potentially hurting yourself because you weren't focused on what you were doing? We live in a fast paced world and it is hard to slow down in a world that is moving so quickly. The thing is, every living thing needs to slow down; needs time to just be; needs time to replenish. How can you do that in such a fast paced world? Check out this episode for one simple technique! I'd love for you to share my podcast with your friends and family. Motivation. It is not an easy thing to maintain. We know what we need to do, but knowing what we need to do just isn't enough to ensure we take action on our goals. Many of the techniques to help with motivation are task oriented; they are left brain focused. The problem with this is it is just not enough. We need to engage our right brain as well as our left brain. Let me tell you more in this episode and help you find ways to reach your goals and the lifestyle you are looking to achieve. Habits are the actions that play out our thoughts. Have you heard the saying “Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny” by Lao Tzu?  If we want to change our habits, we have to pay attention to what we do regularly. What we do regularly is guided by what we say, which is guided by what we think. So in order to change habits, it's not enough to just focus on our actions. We have to listen to the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves and make sure our thoughts are in alignment with our goals.  Check out this episode to learn more about how to change the stories we tell ourselves so we can act, talk, and think in alignment with what our lifestyle goals are. I know one thing about you. You are human. That means you'll make mistakes. That means you'll screw up. That means you'll forget things. That means it's not always going to be easy. That means you'll get caught up in your head. That means you'll listen to your emotions instead of your logic from time to time. That means you're alive. It's easy to beat ourselves up when we don't live up to our standards or expectations. It's not as easy to let it go and be ok with not being perfect. Sometimes we have to push through and do things even when we don't want to. And sometimes we have the best intentions but it still doesn't happen. That's what happened to me over the last week. I didn't want to do my podcast, so I forced myself to. Got it onto my podcast platform, but then stopped there. Really?! So I'm putting it out this week, with a new intro as we all have best laid plans, but if we fall, we must get up. Don't give up. This episode is intended to help you when you're having a hard time motivating yourself.  I'd love for you to share my podcast with your friends and family. Self control. We've heard it time and time again. Just use self control. Just avoid the sugar. Just get up in the morning. If it were that easy, would there be a whole sector of the health field dedicated to eating well? If it were that easy, would health coaches and exercise coaches exist? But at the same time, self control IS a thing that we all have but may not be well versed in using. So is self control BS or is it something that we can learn to harness? As humans we have a part of our brain that other creatures do not, making it possible to override the comfort of status quo and develop a new status quo. Let's learn more about all of this in today's episode and ways to strengthen the self control "muscle". I'd love for you to share my podcast with your friends and family. Do you ever wonder why some people seem motivated and others aren't? I wonder if we are looking at motivation all wrong. What if all of us have motivation at some points and lack it at some points. You may want to be motivated to do something, but sometimes motivation isn't there. Maybe there is a reason for this. Maybe there's nothing wrong with you and we just have to look at motivation and change a bit differently.  I'd love for you to share my podcast with your friends and family. Kids don't think about biking with their friends as exercise. They're just having fun. We don't "have to" ride bikes with our friends as kids. We "want to". The way we look at something either makes it a "good" thing or a "bad" thing. How are you talking to yourself about your healthy habits? This episode will give you tips to start enjoying your new habits instead of having to do them. I'd love for you to share my podcast with your friends and family. It may or may not come as a surprise that I started my career as a therapist. I run two very separate businesses that do the same thing in two very different ways. In both my therapy and coaching businesses my goal is to help you reach your goals and live the life you desire. This podcast is a peek into my life so you can learn about me and why I'm not just "another" coach putting their shingle up.  Fair warning that in this episode I talk about Ditch the Excuses, which is my paid membership program, and how I came to create this program. It's hard to get back on track with lifestyle goals such as health and exercise after vacation, moves, or some other event. Often these things get us right back into old behavior patterns. It becomes hard for the brain to go back and forth and just wants to settle somewhere. It knows the unhealthy lifestyle so it wants to settle there. But that's not what you want. You want to get back on track. You want to focus on your health and wellness goals. You have this plan for yourself and just need some encouragement and a few tools to get back on track.  I'd love for you to share my podcast with your friends and family. New habits are hard enough to stick with. When our significant other isn't on the same page, it's just one more stress. Is it possible to maintain new habits if it seems like our significant other is sabotaging our efforts? Support and encouragement is helpful. Doing the opposite of that is not. But at the same time because it's an old habit, it feels good to do it and can justify not sticking with our new goals. This episode will give you a few tools to help you stay on track and not fall off the wagon when you and your significant other are not on the same page. You know the saying "Happiness isn't a destination; it's a journey"? Many of us look to external sources for happiness. Many of us say "I'll be happy when..." Why can't we be happy now? Why does it always have to be in the future? Can't we be happy now while continuing to strive to be better? In today's episode, we're going to talk about one takeaway that will help you along your journey to happiness, health, and the lifestyle you crave.
