Who's afraid of flying? My mama that's who! How about you?
Always a part of our lives with dogs, I suspect many of you struggle with it too.... Poop!
A little discussion about dog dermatology and what I learned about Apoquel. We discuss our feelings about a dog like Sabrina being returned because we don’t all have the same feelings. Somehow we move on to portion control and making your dog fat.
This is a problem that is happening more and more, we brought Emma in to join us for this podcast. The subject is strays that caring people find and pick up. They look for their owner, check for a microchip, post them on all the things, Ring, Next Door, local lost and found pages and zip….they get nothing, they find nobody. After several days of this they ask us if we will take them, here is where the bullcrap starts to hit the fan…If we start vetting them for what they need, vaccines, are their ears infected?, is their skin infected?. Are they Heartworm positive, are they hurt in some other way?. Then two weeks later boom here comes an owner that says “hey thats my dog”…We have researched the law here in Texas and discussed with at Collin County shelter and they said its all very gray, some say as soon you establish care they belong to you, some say 3 days and some say 5 and some say none at all. We have had this happen multiple times now, the scruffy dog that looked like Sweeps, the finder had that dog for 5 or 6 days, she was posted on all the social media pages, we all saw her multiple times. Then we took her in, had her for several days, took her to the vet, torn ACL and Heartworm positive and we spent over 1,000 on her just with initial exams, bloodwork, worming, and begin Heartworm treatment. Then poof here comes a guy that says thats my dog and I want her back. He will not compensate us for her vet bills and sadly, we had to give her back, her story was awful, and so was her owner, she lived in the front yard in a pen and he said she was keeping the coyotes and bobcats away, she would never be treated for Heartworm and would die from it, her leg injury, you guessed it, it happened from a coyote almost getting her. This is where the anger coms from, we cannot and will not use donor dollars for attorneys, it’s just not right so where is the line? Doing right by the dog, doing right and owner…what is the right thing? It’s a lot harder than you might think and its all on a case by case basis, we encourage you to listen to understand it all.
What a mess! AI Art, old dogs, and a host of camera issues plague this episode. I patched it up best I could, have a chuckle at my struggles while the show continues on around me!Also enjoy these Eva cartoons - we clearly did...
Snakes, Tequila and snoody dress codes
A little twist on our podcast and a little behind the scenes of getting ready for our Facebook live for the raffle. We combined them into one. So it begins with Wes setting up and it rolls into the live and then just some silly banter with Ricky and Terrie and the gang.
A bit of a heated debate in this podcast, the discussion is about humanity, are there more good people than bad, Jessica and I are the optimists, Wes and Travis tend to be more pessimistic but the debate was had and we kind of came to agreement, kind of….😂
Here's some more proof that we struggle with dog potty issues just like everyone else, it's just part of the fun. So we talk about that for a while...then we get into some of the more unfortunate situations we encounter with unscrupulous characters as par for the course rescuing dogs sometimes. This is just our life folks!
Itchy Mitch, the rise of Chat Gippity, and do kids play outside anymore?
Tonights podcast is a discussion about the state of the union of the rescue, the difficulties, the overwhelming onslaught of French Bulldogs that need help and the struggles we have in trying to continue to do our work the way we want it done. I want to speak to the village personally for a moment, I spoke last week about this exact subject and the out pouring of donations was heartwarming, it felt like you heard me when I described the downturn of donations and how we continue to operate at a loss that isn’t sustainable. I feel like I need to ask for donations more and anyone that knows me, knows that is hard for me. I don’t have all the answers but I will continue to work hard and fight to raise funds. We used to always have a big once a year auction, last years was not as successful as I had hoped but I choose to learn from that, and regroup rather than give up. This is what I have decided, and we discuss this in this podcast. We need to seek 10 small ways to raise funds and not count on one big way to raise funds. Ricky and Lorie have a huge inventory of difficult to find liquors of all kinds of varieties, we will most likely have a few raffles up our sleeves. I am open to ideas from the village about this as well, but I need everyone to understand that we are only allowed to have 4 raffles a year per the IRS…. Period. When it comes to auctions here is how it works, we are allowed 48 hours a year to collect funds from one auction without paying sales tax. This is why when the auction ends we need people to pay their invoice within 48 hours, if it’s not paid we have to pay sales tax for anything paid after that. I would like to have multiple small auctions during the year, maybe 125 to 150 items max. But…with that being said we will have to pay sales tax on all of the proceeds from each auction. The auction website we use does not collect sales tax so I would either have to find another way or ask people to donate the sales tax to their invoice and hope that they would. I am currently building two auctions, the one is an all handcrafted artisan auction and right now we are up to about 85 items. The second is donated items that people have been sending to us all year, I worked on that all day yesterday and have about 50 things in it now. I will also sprinkle in a few things from my Mom’s treasures to add a little interest to each auction. In addition to that I am getting ready to sit down and start creating things to sell in the rescues store, shirts, tumblers, mugs, calendars, note cards, hoodies, all of the things. I would love opinions on what you might want to see or purchase. We have so many big rescues that people love to love and I think using their pics to help the rescue create revenue would be fantastic. By the way if you have or do this kind of work, please reach out to me, I would love some help with a producer and or creator of swag. It takes a village to continue to do what we do, and we are counting on the village to help, its a big task and requires all our hands on deck for donations, auctions, raffles, and merchandise that we can muster. We hope you will hear us in this podcast when we talk about all of the details of this subject, and we want to personally thank all of you who donate, 1.00, to 5,000 we appreciate all of you and know that we cannot do anything without your help. If you have anything to donate for either of the auctions discussed above, either the artisan handcrafted auction or the second auction that has a vast array of items included please reach out to Laura at mailto:dogranchrescue@gmail.com and she will help you find the link to the process. Thank you everyone and Good Night
The dynamic of game playing, Terrie Barnes is a hustler is what we learned. Travis is a bad sport and a terrible game player and he admits it. Is game playing about competition or is it about being social?
We’ve been gone for a couple of weeks with Wes being ill and during that time it’s been a bit of a whirlwind in the process of going back and forth to California to address my parents things. This podcast will catch you all up on how that has gone down.
Join us while we discuss AI and how doomed we all are!
Will the treatment for this new crusty man stack up to the riddle of Bessie Pearl?
Once again the question arises….who is the better friend?I’ll wait to hear your answers 😂
Phone and texting etiquette, scam phone calls, and then I go into detail how I’m planning on tackling the job of my mom’s house and belongings.
As I discussed a little earlier tonight’s podcast goes into the issues of having a dog misbehave with going to the bathroom in the house, the assessment of why, the investigation of for sure whom, and the solutions that you have that may or may not work with your circumstance and your dog
This is another one of those silly podcasts that leads down the paths of chickens, falling down, peeing and Mahjong 🤷‍♀️ at least it has variety
The story of Maggie was a big one, a stressful one and a story that was much bigger than what I can tell in Facebook posts, thankfully that’s where the podcast comes in, gives us the opportunity to discuss it fully and discuss our protocol for a sick dog staying at the ranch at the same time
