Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a selection of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched The Village and next time we'll be back with Lady in the Water. The Village is an isolated, idyllic(?) settlement deep in the forest, surrounded by dangerous, territorial, but ultimately peaceable creatures called, by the Villagers, The Ones We Don't Speak Of. In this movie a generation of elders use fear and love to control a new generation of children, but the promises of the outside world (and the increasing danger and dissatisfaction inside the village itself) is too strong a call. The Village is a movie about where Peace and Innocence come from, how evils are movtivated by love and fear, but without a solid grasp on the answers to those questions. Sometimes boring and slow, sometimes exciting and beaituful, and often shallow and patronizing. Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry, @KeithJCarberry), Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Ali Acampora (@Ali-online), Arthur Martinez-Tebbel (@amtebbel), ans Jack De Quidt (@notquitereal) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com To find the screenshots for this episode, check out this post on our patreon, friendsatthetable.cash This episode was made with support from listeners like you! Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a selection of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched Signs and next time we'll be back with The Village. Signs is a movie about ex-preacher Graham Hess and his faith in god, which is put to the test when his wife is killed as a pedestrian in a car accident. He loses his faith, leaves the Church, and retreats emotionally inside the self-soothing comfort of atheism, or perhaps fledgling nihilism. Unfortunately for him, in M Night's world, God is real, losing faith is wrong, and raising your kid while atheist is toxic. When the earth is suddenly subject to a widespread alien invasion threat, Graham's lack of faith is shattered by God's Grace, and the true extent of His meticulously planned fate is undeniable. In this movie written in 2000-2001, starting production in September 2001, and released in summer of 2002, we find an almost supernaturally early example of the post 9/11 movie. A movie about media, a Christian God, securing borders against foreign threats, pulled from the percolating subconscious of America. Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry, @KeithJCarberry), Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Ali Acampora (@Ali-online) and Arthur Martinez-Tebbel (@amtebbel) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com To find the screenshots for this episode, check out this post on our patreon, friendsatthetable.cash This episode was made with support from listeners like you! Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a bunch of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched Unbreakable and next time we'll be back with Signs. Unbreakable is a movie I had basically never heard of, so that's fun. In a million years I couldn't have told you that M Night immediately followed up on the success of The Sixth Sense with another Bruce Willis movie. And it's a superhero movie. I think you could fairly call it the first modern superhero movie but I've got nothing to back that up with. I can tell you it really feels like a prototype for all the pre-iron man superhero movies of the 00s. Bruce Willis plays David Dunn, a security guard failing as a husband and a father who has to come to terms with the fact that he has superpowers, under the guidance of Samuel L Jackson's mysterious and wealthy character Elijah Price. This episode we watched the Sixth Sense and next time we'll be back with Unbreakable. The Sixth Sense is so famous for it's twist ending that, as someone who had never seen it before, i think it's regrettably stopped being famous for being really good. It's really good! Malcolm Crowe is a successful and respected child psychologist, until one night an old patient, still suffering, breaks into his home and attacks him, shaking his confidence and ruining his marriage. A year later, he's found another boy, very much like the one he failed, and he's determined to get it right this time. But if you can believe it, not everything is as it seems. Thanks everyone for listening to all of Media Club Plus's inaugural season! And a special thank you to everyone who wrote in questions. I'm happy to say it's not truly over yet, as we have at least TWO if not three more season 1 bonus episodes to do, including the extremely late next part of our Dragon Ball Z coverage. We also all owe it to Sylvi to watch Phantom Rouge. This is not even to mention eventually returning in some form for some HxH manga episodes. No promises, but... I think we all would like to do at least SOMETHING. I really hope everyone will stick around for our M Night season before we transition into our next big thing. We've already recorded several episodes and I'm having a lot of fun as the know-nothing guy. Sorry this one is late! I had a crazy week and then I was sick for a bit. Next week you can expect The Sixth Sense in the feed AND a brand new bonus ep: M Night's directorial debut, self-starring in Praying With Anger. Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry, @KeithJCarberry), Jack de Quidt (@jdq) Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Andrew Lee Swan (@swandre3000), and Austin Walker (@AustinWalker) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com Since this is our final episode, and it's a Q+A, there are no screenshots. But you should take a look at friendsatthetable.cash anyway. If you've enjoyed the show but are not a supporter, consider it! There's tiers to fit literally any budget and it's a great way to show us you like what we do. ...Or find our merch here http://friendsatthetable.shop To find transcripts of the episodes, go to http://TranscriptsattheTable.com A link to Tom's figma board concerning the Succession Wars

After a harrowing showdown with Illumi, Killua and Alluka finally make it to Gon's hospital bed. Somehow, thanks to Leorio, Gon's state has become extremely important to the election. Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. Killua and Alluka begin their trek from Kukuroo Mountain back to the Hunter hospital. This would be totally fine, except Illumi has decided to hunt Alluka for being too dangerous. Meanwhile, Leorio is in town and he's Pissed. This week we cover episodes 140-142, titled Join Battle x and x Open Battle, Magician x and x Butler, and Needles x and x Debt. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 143-145, titled Sin x And x Claw, Approval x And x Coalition, and Defeat x And x Reunion. Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. We start off this new season immediately in the soup of a horrible election, thanks to the intentionally poor planning of Isaac Netero. After spending some time with the new dysfunctinoal family of Ging, Pariston and the other zodiaks, we meet up with the old dysfunctional family of assassins, the Zoldycks of Kukuroo Mountain where we learn that Killua has a secret cursed sister. This week we cover episodes 137-139, titled Debate x Among x Zodiaks, Request x and x Wish, and Alluka x and x Something. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 140-142, titled Join Battle x and x Open Battle, Magician x and x Butler, and Needles x and x Debt.   Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. We've finally finished the mammoth Chimera Ant arc. It was long, ambitious, and fascinating. On the whole, I think it's some of the best TV ever made. After dozens and dozens of episodes of tension, Togashi and Madhouse pull out all the emotional stops, closing as many narrative loops as possible before introducing the next season: the election of a new Hunter Association chairman. This week we cover episodes 134-136, titled The Word x Is x You, This Person x And x This Moment, and Homecoming x And x True Name. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 137-139, titled Debate x Among x Zodiaks, Request x and x Wish, and Alluka x and x Something. First halfish of this episode uses our audio backup so it's a bit lower quality than usual. But not a big deal. Sorry! Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. Bad vibes all around! Does Gon Freecss become the least shounen protagonist of all time? Or the most? And how long can Pouf and Youpi hope to keep Meruem away from Komugi, or even from merely her name? Or the word Gungi? And what's with all this blood? Hey was something up with that bomb? Thanks to Austin for joining us on a doozey of an episode he asked to be on almost as far back as the show's conception. This week we cover episodes 131-133, titled Anger x and x Light, FLash x and x Start, and Deadline x to x Live. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 134-136, titled The Word x Is x You, This Person x And x This Moment, and Homecoming x And x True Name. Happy to have Ali Acampora back to complete her Talking About Kite trilogy!  Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. Well it wouldn't be an episode of the Chimera Ant arc if it wasn't full of the weirdest, wildest shit yet. And that's certainly true for this one. The quick rundown: The king is alive, Pouf and Youpi become mothers by feeding the king their own flesh to revive him (deeply sexual), everyone resolves to back Gon up against Pitou (potentially to their own death), Gon decides he's going to leave with Piout alone and that his buddies should take Komugi as a hostage, Pouf is making power plays to take advantage of the King's amnesia which is difficult because the three of them can kind of all read each other's minds now, Gon leads Pitou to Kite where they reveal that Kite cannot be helped, Gon doesn't like this. Corrections: In this episode there's disagreement on how Komugi gets knocked out. Upon review, it's clear that Killua (intentionally?) knocker her out during Pouf attack This week we cover episodes 127-130, titled Hostility x And x Determination, Unparalleled joy x And x Unconditional Love, Formidable Enemy x And x Clear Objective, and Magic x To x Destroy. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 131~133, titled Anger x and x Light, FLash x and x Start, and Deadline x to x Live. Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry, @KeithJCarberry), Jack de Quidt (@jdq) Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Andrew Lee Swan (@swandre3000), and Ali Acampora (@Ali-online) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com To find the screenshots for this episode, check out this post on our patreon, friendsatthetable.cash This episode was made with support from listeners like you! Hey everyone, sorry this one's a week late, but we'll be back on our regular schedule next week. By the way, yesterday Friends at the Table launched a new podcast, called Side Story, hosted by Austin with a rotating cast of FatT members. It's about videogames! The first episode has Jack and Janine, and they're also doing a patron-exclusive LP of Outward. Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the Chimera Ant King that he was just an old man. This week we cover episodes 125 and 126, titled Great Power x and x Ultimate Power and Zero x and x Rose. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 127-130, titled Hostility x And x Determination, Unparalleled joy x And x Unconditional Love, Formidable Enemy x And x Clear Objective, and Magic x To x Destroy. Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. Early in the episode Jack points out that this is a set of three duologues which is exactly true. The King and Netero, Ikalgo and Welfin, and Killua and Palm This week we cover episodes 122-124, titled Pose x and x Name, Centipede x and x Memory, and Breakdown x and x Awakening. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 125 and 126, titled Great Power x and x Ultimate Power and Zero x and x Rose. Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This week we’re starting off with maybe the most important episode of Hunter x Hunter to date: a bottle episode featuring Gon’s emotional face-off with Pitou, and Killua’s emotional face-back with Gon (because Gon never turns around in this scene). We’ll get into it in depth but that’s literally all that happens in this one. In the next two episodes we check back in with all the other threads going on in the Palace: Cheetu begs to be killed instantly by the Zoldycks, Meleoron is able to link back up with Killua, Ikalgo deals with having blown his cover, Youpi is having an identity crisis because he cant find any of his friends and everyone keeps attacking him and its not fair, and knuckle semi-successfully is able to keep Youpi from killing Shoot This week we cover episodes 116-118, titled Revenge x and x Recovery, Insult x And x Payback, and A x False x Rage. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 119-121, titled Strong x or x Weak, Fake x and x Real, and Defeat x and x Dignity. Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry, @KeithJCarberry), Jack de Quidt (@jdq) Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), and Andrew Lee Swan (@swandre3000) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com To find the screenshots for this episode, check out this post on our patreon, friendsatthetable.cash This episode was made with support from listeners like you! Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. The King is already gone, but there's a castle full of ants desperate to find and protect him. Gon and Killua have a brief encounter with Netero and Zeno on their way to find Pitou. Killua especially is having some sort of crisis (crises?). Zeno almost has words of warning for the boys, but instead says "hey man don't look at me you figure it out". Meanwhile, Ikalgo immediately raises everyone's suspicion and Knuckle has to tap in for a thoroughly beaten Shoot. Oh yeah and there's a new entry in the "most paranoid guy" category: Welfin. He sees Bloster hear Ikalgo call Leol "Hagya" and has a sincerely impressive meltdown. This week we cover episodes 113-115, titled An x Indebted x Insect, Divide x And x Conquer, and Duty x And x Question. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 116-118, titled Revenge x and x Recovery, Insult x And x Payback, and A x False x Rage. Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. It's been almost 20 episodes since the Extermination Team took a train to East Gorteau to prep for an attack on the castle and almost 40 since Gon and Killua warped to Kite, by chance, officially starting their journey to the most dangerous place on earth. What seemed like a simple plan, to give cover for Netero to fight the King by separating the royal guards, is now a confusing mess. Netero showed up, Zeno Zoldyck in tow, in a hail of nen bombs, accidentally wounding Komugi. Because of this, the King chose to separate himself. Job done? Well, King or no, there's still a house full of ants to deal with. This week we cover episodes 110-112, titled Confusion x And x Expectation, Charge x And x Invade, and Monster x And x Monster. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 113-115, titled An x Indebted x Insect, Divide x And x Conquer, and Duty x And x Question. Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. We're finally, finally back with Gon and Killua for chunks of these episodes, but there's a ton of other business too. Of course, the King is playing Gungi (or Gungi is playing him?) Also, we start and easily conclude Morel's fight with Leol. Knov makes a sort of peace with his panic attack, and Poof has two of his own. Killua has made best friends with Ikalgo and Gon has made Meleoron best friends with Knuckle. Also, no one can get in touch with Palm. This week we cover episodes 107-109, titled Return x and x Retire, Komugi x and x Gungi, and Taking Stock x and x Taking Action. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 110-112, titled Confusion x And x Expectation, Charge x And x Invade, and Monster x And x Monster. Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. Gungi Gungi Gungi Gungi!!!! The King is playing Gungi!!!!! While that happens, for some weird reason the Hunters catch a break in their preparations to invade the castle. Why would what be? King's just in there playing gungi after all. This week we cover episodes 104-106, titled Doubt x And x Hesitation, Resolve x And x Awakening and Knov x And x Morel. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 107-109, titled Return x and x Retire, Komugi x and x Gungi, and Taking Stock x and x Taking Action.
