John 21: 1 - 14 | The Invitation of JesusThroughout Jesus' ministry, he calls those he meets into participation in the transformation of their lives and their communities. He sees their deepest needs -- whether physical, social, emotional, or spiritual -- but does not stand apart from them, doing "for" them to meet these needs, but instead stands "with" them, inviting them into his work of renewal. John 21, and Jesus' simple invitation to his disciples to "come and have breakfast," gives us a glimpse of his larger invitation, and how it might change the story of our own lives and the lives of those around us, including refugees new-to-Canada.
Jesus' Transfiguration | Luke 9:28-36On the mountain where Jesus is "transfigured", the disciples are reassured that Jesus is worth following. We get a glimpse of His heavenly glory and fuller identity! We see that Jesus is fulfilling His people's destiny. And we hear divine affirmation that Jesus is indeed God's chosen agent in the world. Our only response - which is commanded, no less! - is to listen to Jesus' teaching. As we continue to walk through the "journey" section of Luke (9:51-19:27), contemplating its deep challenges to live differently with our lives centred on Jesus, let us (1) remember who Jesus is, and (2) "listen to Him" - trust what he says is true, and follow His commands.
Luke 12:35-48 | Expectant Living
A call to follow Christ is to live expectantly Christ's return and how our future hope shapes (or should shape) our present.
Luke Part 7 | Luke 12:13-34
There are a lot of reasons that lead us to just accumulate and want more and more. But our accumulation will not give us the security or the joy that we want - it's temporary, not eternal. So how do we stop our anxiety and worry and our desire to accumulate? This week we explore what it means to consider God in the midst of our worry, to preach to our hearts and remind ourselves that He is good! Christ became poor so we can be rich. How are we being called to look like Jesus, growing our kingdom mindset by doing things like giving, being on the look out, and more?
