Writing down our thoughts and feelings and dreams can be such a powerful experience. It can help us put words to what's going on inside of us, bringing clarity and insights. It can give us a space to dream about what we want. Ultimately, journaling can help us get to know ourselves better. And journal prompts can encourage us to write ourselves into places we otherwise never would have gone.
This morning, we’re going to meditate and write about what brings you joy.
Settle into comfort,
Softening the muscles in your face,
Lowering your shoulders,
And letting your exhale release and relax your entire body.
PAUSE…
Now find your breath.
And just be here for a moment with it.
Riding its waves in and out,
In and out.
PAUSE…
What brings me joy?
Give yourself a few moments to marinate in this question,
And then if you feel called to write what comes up,
The music will play on as you do so.
PAUSE…
If you’d prefer to simply sit and be present to the answers that arise in you,
Then that’s fine too.
Either way, give yourself the gift of pondering the question,

The intention is to give you a chance to practice sitting in the silence, guiding your thoughts away, and settling deeply into stillness, the place where all the wisdom resides.
I call it a practice because it is always imperfect. Thoughts will arise and your mind will play with them. Your body will move and distract you. That is all completely normal. The purpose is to keep practicing coming back to your breath, back to the present moment, and surrendering to the silence.
So let’s begin with two deep breaths,
Inviting the cool air to fill you up entirely,
And then exhale, releasing and relaxing.
One last deep breath in,
Letting the air touch your fingers and your toes,
And then breathe out, releasing and relaxing.
Now be here,
With the silence,
With yourself.

Pull your attention away,
From those goals you want so much.
Their purpose is to push you ahead.
Instead come inside,
And recognize the truth,
That the journey is where life is lived.

Eckhart Tolle says realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have. Make the now the primary focus of your life.
The now is where we find the gift of a refresh. Where we can completely let go of the past and future and be present to invite in the refreshing energy we desire.

So this morning, I’ll be taking you through a guided visualization to cultivate loving kindness for yourself, for others, and for the world around you.
So come inside,
Inviting yourself to settle into deep comfort,

Your chest and belly,
And your arms and legs.

Following your breath in and out,
And surrendering yourself to its soothing,

Shining within you at your center.

As you look around, you see those you love,

Covering them with your loving-kindness,

And love.

Notice how much deeper your own love grows as you share it with others.
How much lighter you are,
How much more joy there is inside of you.

Now see if you can imagine another crowd of people appearing.
These are the billions of other people in the world you have not yet met and do not know.
You look around and look into the eyes of other women, men and children,
And you immediately feel connected to them,
One with them,
Deeply aware that each of them have a significant life,
And a history that deserves respect.

Let your warm, pink light radiate out onto every single one of them,
Connecting you,
And showering them with the gentle loving kindness that continues to flow abundantly from you.

Now see if you can imagine that beyond the crowds of people in front of you,
You see all the animals and creatures of the world,
The plants, the trees, the water and the mountains,
And all of Mother Nature’s wonders.
You see the Earth,
The sun, the moon, the stars,
And the infinite depths of the Universe.
They’re all here.
You are them,
And they are you.
So give them your loving kindness,
And let them feel the expanding glow of your beautiful pink light.

We hold on so tightly,
To the outcomes that we want.
Our fingers squeeze around them,
And our hold locks into place.
PAUSE…
Our vision hones in on what’s within our grip,
And suddenly everything else is invisible.
PAUSE…
We wait and we watch,
Counting the moments as we stare,
Completely oblivious to anything else around us.
PAUSE…
What we don’t realize,
Is that we’re suffocating our desires,
The tighter we hold.
And we become blind to the manifestations of our dreams,
That aren’t born inside of our fists.

So dream, sweet one,
Visualize and hope,
And take action every single day.
But peel back those fingers,
And loosen that grip.
Widen your gaze,
And detach from the outcome.
So creativity can flow,
And you can breathe.

Holding on tightly to the outcome we want,
Will not ensure we get it.
But it will steal our attention,
Intensify our emotions,
And cause our minds to obsess.

On the outcomes it desperately holds.

Watch those petals of desires,
Unfurl and expand,
Free from the pressure,
Free to breathe.

And find a gentle rhythm that nourishes.

Feel the soft breeze kiss your face,
And dance with the colorful petals in your open hand.

Slowly and beautifully,
The petals ride the waves of the breeze,
As they float away in all directions,
Free to land where they’re meant to be.

Surrendered to the magic of the petals,

Lysa Terkheurst says, where there is a lack of rest, there is an abundance of stress.
We’ve all felt the pangs of too little rest.
We’ve felt the heaviness build when we’ve pushed too hard,
Done too much,
Without enough rest to restore us.
So this morning’s meditation is a reminder that our level of rest is intricately connected to our level of stress. So use this as a tool anytime you feel your levels of stress rising, so you can invite in more rest, and find equilibrium.
Settle in, dear one,
And know you’re not alone.
We all could use more rest,
We all have felt too much stress.
So surrender yourself to this practice today,
Forgetting about all of those details in your mind,
All those things weighing on you,
And instead…
Just rest here.

Breathe them all out,
Those thoughts,
Those expectations,
That running list of things you have to do.
Breathe it out,

Today, we’re creating more space for silence by practicing sitting in silence.
Within this unguided silence, we can utilize everything we’ve been practicing all week - expanding the spaces between your breath, letting go of the thoughts, and being here with no agenda.
Ultimately, so we can practice unveiling the silence already within us, and also grow our capacity to be the silent mind.
So settle into your breathing,
And invite your entire body to relax deeply.
Take one big, deep breath in,
Filling yourself all the way up with the morning air.
And then exhale and release,
And feel yourself settle deeper.
And then be here.
One with your breath.
One with yourself.
One with this moment.
