Episode 9-9 for the 2-0-1-9!  Yooo today... we've got one of the most talented, well-known and successful emcees in Japan! The legendary, Kojoe! Kojoe grew up in Nigata, Japan. As a youth, he was a highly accomplished winter sports athlete that was likely on his way to the Olympics. That talent took him to the US for training. But when he got there, he eventually found himself in Hollis, Queens. Where he would spend the better part of two decades refining his art along side some of the most notable hip-hop artists ever.   He talk to him all that plus take a deep dive into his thoughts on hip-hop culture in japan, the differences between new york hiphop and tokyos, the importance of japanese fans/artists educating themselves about black culture, being the only japanese person in his social circle in New York, authentic tough guys in japan, and a gang of other topics. All that and we still get into his incredible amount of music released over the last 20 years. Kylo Yen was born and raised in South Africa. He's a full time multi-genre musician and producer with multiple projects coming out this year including a hip-hop album with an MC, a solo lo-fi album and a jazz album. He also plays in a post punk, goth pop band and a hardcore doom metal band. Kylo is also a former tattoo artist that recently opened up a recording studio in Koenji, Tokyo is working on developing artists. Hard to pin this guy down. He's doing a little bit of everything dope. So we sat with him in an extra long recording to talk about as much as we could.   Imani and Maasi Oak! Blerds in the building! Today we got Imani and Maasi Oak! Imani is a singer/songwriter/ artist that also rocks with Bae Tokyo. Maasi Oak is an emcee and also one of Lates old friends from college back stateside. Both of them are super blerds and very much into Pokemon. They've collaborated to create a really dope track about being unapologetic Pokemon fans and the type of swagger that comes with that energy.
