Description

Jaclyn Brown was diagnosed with both depression and anxiety while at university. Her husband, Danny, was diagnosed with depression later in life. Together, they want to help you with your mental health journey.

In Mental Health and Us, Jaclyn and Danny share what it's like to live with mental illness as an ever-present occupant in their everyday lives. From challenges living as a couple, to parenting two young kids, one of which was also diagnosed with anxiety when he was just eight years old.

They'll also talk with fellow mental health sufferers about their journey, and some of the coping mechanisms they use to best manage their own circumstances.

Each episode will be an open, honest discussion about mental illness, and why it's okay to not be okay. We don't have to struggle alone. We are in this together.

Let's talk about it.

In this week's show, I want to talk about my recent health scare, which I touched upon in my last episode where I talked about my weight loss journey. After the 8-week period was over, I took a little break to celebrate. While I wasn't exercising, I did continue with my smoothies, etc. However, following a dinner I had the evening after finishing the challenge, I took a turn for the worse. It felt as though I was having a heart attack. I'd had a similar problem last year, but this felt a little different. No matter what I did, I just couldn't shake the severe pain that I was in.In this week's show, I share what happened, the various things I went through, and why it's important to be aware of this, as your physical health is important to your mental health. For more resources, please visit the Mental Health and Me website, where you'll find practical self-care and wellness tips to help other mental health sufferers and their loved ones cope. You can also connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.Let's keep the conversation going.#mentalhealth #depression #anxiety #endthestigma Support Mental Health and Me:Listen and leave a review on iTunes   Listen and leave a review on Google Podcasts   Listen on Spotify   Support with a donationMentioned on today's show:8 week health and fitness planFinding a positive mindset to a healthier lifeMy equipment:Blue Snowball iCE Condenser MicOn Stage DS7200B Adjustable Desk Mic StandDragonpad Pop FilterWtxqCkjdJtkzD41J4IYQThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podder - https://www.podderapp.com/privacy-policy
In this week's show, I want to talk about how I lost over 30lbs in 8 weeks, and how a positive mindset helped me to a healthier life, and the impact that can have on your mental health.I'll be honest - it wasn't easy. There were a lot of things I had to give up, or reduce greatly, while adding things to my diet and lifestyle that I didn't necessarily want to add.But having changed my mindset, and gone through the 8 week program, I've definitely noticed an impact on my overall health - mental as well as physical. This is something I'll dive into more on future shows, but today I want to give you an idea of what I went through, and how you can follow some of the steps I took if you want to make a physical change in your life. For more resources, please visit the Mental Health and Me website, where you'll find practical self-care and wellness tips to help other mental health sufferers and their loved ones cope. You can also connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.Let's keep the conversation going.#mentalhealth #depression #anxiety #endthestigma Support Mental Health and MeListen and leave a review on iTunes  Listen and leave a review on Google Podcasts  Listen on Spotify  Support with a donationMentioned on today's show8 week health and fitness planThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podder - https://www.podderapp.com/privacy-policy
In this week's show, I want to talk about how the combination of mental, physical, and spiritual wellness plays an important part on our mental health journey. You have to better the whole package if you expect to see results. Mental, physical, and spiritual states all have to be aligned. Mind, body, and soul. The way I see it is, you can have the best body in the world, physically in shape, eating the best foods, and running marathons while lifting weights… but if you don’t take care of your brain and your heart, you will still be unhappy. For more resources, please visit the Mental Health and Me website, where you'll find practical self-care and wellness tips to help other mental health sufferers and their loved ones cope. You can also connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.Let's keep the conversation going.#mentalhealth #depression #anxiety #endthestigma Support Mental Health and MeListen and leave a review on iTunes Listen and leave a review on Google Podcasts Listen on Spotify Support with a donationThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podder - https://www.podderapp.com/privacy-policy
In last week's show, I spoke about why it's okay to not be perfect. Striving for perfection only helps to increase anxiety and, by association, depression. And that's the last thing we need added to our everyday journey with our illness.Today I want to expand on that, and share why it's also okay - in fact, perfectly normal - to be awkward. Because while we may feel that being awkward makes us look foolish, often we're our own worst critic and the only one who's actually noticing our awkwardness. For more resources, please visit the Mental Health and Me website, where you'll receive nothing but a warm welcome, support, love, and reassurance. You can also connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.Let's keep the conversation going.#mentalhealth #depression #anxiety #endthestigma Support Mental Health and MeListen and leave a review on iTunesListen and leave a review on Google PodcastsListen on SpotifySupport with a donationThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podder - https://www.podderapp.com/privacy-policy
Last week, I recorded an episode of Mental Health and Me while under what I can only call "not the best circumstances". While I could have left the episode up, I really wasn't happy with it, as you'll found out in this new episode. I'll still share the topic of the previous episode three, probably in next week's show.Today, though, while I share what happened last week, I want to talk about why you don't need to be perfect. Why whatever you do, you should be proud of, because you actually had the courage to do it.It's okay to do things over. It's okay to not settle for things the first time you do them. Because we're not perfect, and that means we're allowed to do things over. And over. And over again. Allow yourself to breathe, and simply try again until you feel comfortable and confident with your own results. For more resources, please visit the Mental Health and Me website, where you'll receive nothing but a warm welcome, support, love, and reassurance.
Recently, my husband was diagnosed with depression. He'd been suffering for a while, without actually realizing he had all the symptoms that come with depression. It wasn't until he literally couldn't take another step forward that he decided he needed to seek help, and his own journey with depression (and anxiety) began. In episode 2 of Mental Health and Me, I chat with him about that realization, and how his life has changed since being diagnosed, and what advice he'd give to those in his shoes pre-diagnosis.For more resources, please visit the Mental Health and Me website, where you'll receive nothing but a warm welcome, support, love, and reassurance.
