Today, I am blessed to have here with me Jess Berman. She joins the show to share new information and interesting science about cellular health from the perspective of BodyBio, the company founded by her grandfather, Ed Kane, an inventor, health explorer and early biohacker. He went looking for answers to his own health issues in the 1980s and got deep into the science of fatty acid research and cell membrane medicine through blood testing. In this episode, Jess explores essential health topics, emphasizing the crucial balance of phosphatidylcholine in cell membranes and the impact of environmental influences. The significance of maintaining cell membrane health as foundational to overall well-being is underscored. We touch on omega-6 fatty acids; Jess highlights their dual nature and stresses the importance of quality sourcing in the fatty acid pathway. She distinguishes between processed and pure forms, emphasizing the role of processing and storage methods in maintaining omega-6 quality. Tune in as we dive into preventative health measures, urging a perspective that considers health as wealth. There's a reason why seed oils have such a bad wrap. While it's true that they have omega-6, it's the quality of the omega-6 that we should be paying attention to. Understanding good fats vs bad fats starts with acknowledging the distinction between what's known as rancid, oxidized omega-6 and unadulterated omega-6 linoleic acid, derived from carefully treated, organic sources. As Jess Berman of BodyBio will explain, omega-6 is essential to the human body but there needs to be a shift in the type that we choose to consume. We’ll also discuss what it was like growing up in a super health conscious family, the value of a generational approach to wellness, preventative health measures and the impact of “forever chemicals,” DHA in brain health and fetal development and more. In this episode of the Metabolic Freedom Podcast, I delve into the "Make America Healthy Again" (MAHA) movement and critique the dire state of health in the U.S. I present alarming statistics showing that a vast majority of Americans are metabolically unhealthy, with rising rates of obesity, diabetes, and chronic diseases. I argue that the healthcare system perpetuates illness by treating symptoms rather than root causes. I also discuss the impact of environmental toxins on health, emphasizing the need for awareness and proactive measures to reduce exposure. I advocate for a shift in mindset towards true health and wellness. 📍Resources Mentioned:  📚 Purchase Ben's BRAND NEW BOOK - Metabolic Freedom: A 30-Day Guide to Restore Your Metabolism, Heal Hormones & Burn Fat: https://amzn.to/3ZMN5Xd  🌬️ JASPR. The mistake people make is burning more calories than ingested.  If you lower your dietary calories, over time, you lower your metabolic rate.  Focusing on calorie counting is a HUGE mistake. The body is not a calculator or math equation. 1,000 calories from steak vs skittles will elicit a different response.  Instead of focusing on calories, it’s more effective to: Focus on insulin sensitivity… How insulin causes fat storage. In this episode, Ben Azadi explores the crucial role of metabolism in transforming food into energy, essential for burning fat and overall well-being. He discusses the harmful effects of vegetable oils, which are more detrimental than sugar and smoking, and share a special drink recipe to help eliminate these bad fats. Dr. Cate Shanahan joins to explain how vegetable oils cause inflammation and chronic disease. Additionally, Ben details the unhealthy industrial process of making canola oil. He encourages listeners to make informed dietary choices for better metabolic health. PLEASE NOTE: The best option is to avoid these damaged fats as much as possible! Eating an animal based diet focused on saturated fat and monounsaturated fat combined with fasting and exercise is the BEST way to remove these bad fats from your body. The Special Drink for Fat Elimination To combat the negative effects of harmful fats, Ben introduces a special drink designed to help eliminate them from the body. He outlines the ingredients and their specific benefits: Ingredients and Benefits: Psyllium Husk: A soluble fiber that forms a gel-like substance in the digestive tract, helping to bind to bile acids and dietary fats, promoting their excretion. Flax Seeds: Act as a mild laxative due to their fiber content, aiding in smoother bowel movements. Ground flax seeds release mucilage, which lubricates the intestines and facilitates fat excretion. Calcium and Magnesium: These minerals play a crucial role in binding to fatty acids and bile salts in the intestines, forming insoluble compounds that the body cannot absorb. This process helps lower bad cholesterol levels and supports weight management. Recipe: Mix psyllium husk, flax seeds, and a calcium-magnesium powder in water. Consume this drink first thing in the morning to maximize its benefits. 📍Resources Mentioned: 📍 Organic India Psyllium Husk: https://amzn.to/413vfjZ 📍 Spectrum Essentials Organic Ground Premium Flaxseed: https://amzn.to/3CMtldo 📍Calcium Magnesium Powder: THORNE Buffered C Powder - Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) with Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium - 8.32 Oz https://amzn.to/3VjPRRh 📍Studies: https://bit.ly/4eQnRvq https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12011-019-01687-6?utm_source 🔎 Find all of the Metabolic Freedom Sponsorship deals and coupon codes here: https://www.ketokamp.com/sponsorship-deals
Does cardio actually help with fat loss? Yes! If you don’t make these 5 mistakes that sabotage fat loss. If done right, you can use cardio to melt belly fat. Let’s start with the first mistake… #1 Overdoing Steady-State Cardio Why it's a mistake: Spending too much time doing long, slow cardio (like jogging) can lead to a plateau, increased cortisol levels, and even muscle loss. While steady-state cardio can improve endurance, it’s not the most efficient way to burn fat or build cardiovascular health. Fix: Incorporate high-intensity interval training (HIIT) or alternate between steady-state and resistance-based cardio. #2 Ignoring Strength Training Why it's a mistake: Many people rely solely on cardio for fat loss, neglecting the benefits of muscle-building exercises. Without strength training, you miss out on the metabolic boost and long-term calorie burn that comes from increasing muscle mass. Fix: Combine cardio with resistance training to maximize fat loss and metabolic health. #3 Doing Too Much, Not Recovering Enough Why it's a mistake: Jumping into intense cardio routines without building a foundation can lead to burnout, overtraining, or injuries. Fix: Gradually increase the intensity and duration of your cardio sessions to allow your body to adapt and recover. Track sleep, HRV and resting heart rate Discuss hormesis #4 Neglecting Nutrition  Why it's a mistake: People often overestimate how many calories they burn during cardio and underestimate how important recovery is. Overeating after a cardio session can offset fat-loss efforts, while inadequate recovery can lead to fatigue and reduced performance. Fix: Focus on balanced nutrition (high-quality protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs) and prioritize rest, hydration, and sleep. #5 Doing the Same Routine Repeatedly Why it's a mistake: Repeating the same cardio workout leads to diminished returns as your body adapts to the routine. This makes it less effective over time. Fix: Vary your cardio by mixing different types of exercises (cycling, rowing, running) and intensities to challenge your body and keep it progressing. 📍Resources Mentioned:  🥑 Fat burning keto recipes delivered to your inbox. Today, I am blessed to host a conversation with Dr. John Kim, a functional medicine pharmacist. Dr. Kim shares his personal story of suffering a heart attack at 33 despite normal cholesterol levels, revealing the deeper causes like mold toxicity and environmental toxins. We discuss the significant impact of mold on health, chronic inflammation, and stress. Dr. Kim provides practical advice on addressing mold exposure, improving metabolic health through diet, and managing stress with heart rate variability and breathwork. This episode empowers listeners to take proactive steps towards better health and well-being. Ben Azadi kicks off the episode by emphasizing the significance of metabolism and how it transforms food into energy, which is essential for overall well-being. He highlights the podcast's mission to provide listeners with insights from thought leaders in the field, aiming to empower them to enhance their metabolic health. The discussion covers various subjects, including biohacking, fasting strategies, and the importance of a self-healing body. Dr. Kim shares his compelling story of suffering a heart attack at just 33 years old, despite having normal cholesterol levels. He recounts the confusion and disbelief he faced in the cardiac ICU, where doctors initially dismissed his heart attack due to his seemingly healthy lipid profile. Through extensive testing, he discovered that the root causes of his heart issues were not related to cholesterol but rather to chronic inflammation, mold toxicity, and a tick-borne illness called Bartonella. He reflects on his upbringing in a moldy environment, where his family dealt with persistent leaks in their basement. This exposure, combined with his high-stress lifestyle and lack of sleep, contributed to his health crisis. Dr. Kim emphasizes the importance of recognizing the signs of inflammation and the body's signals, which he ignored until it was too late. Actionable Steps: Incorporate Healthy Fats: Include sources of healthy fats, such as avocados, nuts, seeds, and fatty fish, in your diet to support cell membrane health. Focus on Nutrient-Dense Foods: Prioritize whole, unprocessed foods rich in vitamins and minerals to nourish your body and support detoxification. Support Gut Health: Consider supplements like sodium butyrate and probiotics to maintain a healthy gut microbiome and enhance detoxification. In this episode, Ben Azadi, author of Ketoflex and host of the Metabolic Freedom Podcast, outlines a seven-step diet plan to reduce visceral fat in 14 days. The first step is to lower insulin levels by swapping carbohydrates for protein and fat. Ben emphasizes that carbohydrates cause the highest blood insulin response compared to protein and fat. He suggests replacing common high-carbohydrate foods, such as oatmeal, cereal, bread, fruit, and potatoes, with cauliflower rice, eggs, red meat, and vegetables. The second step is to stop snacking between meals to avoid disrupting metabolism and preventing the body from burning visceral fat. The third step is to incorporate sprints into a workout routine three times a week, as high-intensity interval training activates hormones that promote fat burning. The fourth step is to eliminate or limit alcohol consumption, as alcohol prioritizes detoxification over fat burning and increases appetite. The fifth step is to walk at least 7,000 steps a day, particularly after meals, to blunt blood sugar spikes and reduce insulin production. The sixth step is to practice intermittent fasting on an 18/6 schedule to lower insulin levels, increase human growth hormone, and promote cellular cleaning through autophagy. The final step is to get 90 minutes of deep sleep each night to activate fat-burning hormones and accelerate fat loss. Ben also recommends measuring visceral fat through a DEXA scan or, more accurately, an MRI. 📍 Resourced Mentioned: 📍 Online Food Calculate Download for FREE. http://www.cronometer.com/ketokamp 📍 Fat Burning Recipes Delivered to Your Inbox: http://www.ketokamprecipes.com 📍Magnesium: bioptimizers.com/ketokamp use the coupon code KETOKAMP10  📍Somnifix mouth-tape: https://somnifix.com/?ref=3778298&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=goaffpro 📍 Sleep trackers..  📍Oura Ring: https://ouraring.com/discount/6e9615cebf?utm_medium=iac_raf 📍FitBit: https://amzn.to/3Z0tXn1  📍 Apple Watch: https://amzn.to/4fVPZyf 📍Whoop Band: https://amzn.to/3ZgGVyv

Not all supplements are created equal—in fact, many of the ones on the market result in expensive urine. The key is to use high-quality supplements derived from whole foods versus synthetic supplements made in a lab. When you take synthetic vitamins, the human body recognizes this substance as a drug. When you take real food supplements, the human body recognizes this as nutrition. What results is something called “selective absorption,” where the body fills in any nutritional gaps and excretes the rest. Real food supplements are derived from concentrated, dehydrated forms of fruits, vegetables, and other natural sources, providing a complex blend of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients as they occur in nature. You can easily spend your extra cash on supplements but the best question we can ask is…. What supplements actually work?
