Description

Most details of a person's life are lost forever. Some details managed to be stored in memory, but memory fades.

Most of us don’t know much about the generations before us. We barely know the details of our parents' lives, and maybe even less with grandparents. I bet that most people can’t recall the names of their great-grandparents.

My father passed away when I was 9. I had enough memory to get a sense of who he was, but I didn’t have the chance to understand his outlook of life on a deeper level. How was he when he was younger? What things that he struggled with? What did he dream about?

I didn’t realize this in the beginning, but Michael’s Daily Reflection is a vehicle to connect with my kids and future generations on a deeper level. I want to provide them what I didn’t have. It’s like having insurance for a piece of my “consciousness”.

Each episode is intended to distill an insight that I learned, on a particular topic that I come across. I connect the dots between the things I experience and the wisdom I gather from the world.

I started this podcast spontaneously as I discovered the Call-in App - founded by David Sack - a member of the All-in Podcast that I frequently listen to. Good timing, as I wanted to create something meaningful, and do something for the longer term. I want to make good use of my time.

This is an ever-evolving project. I did an episode every day for the first 3 months, which was interesting but now I will balance it out. Quality over quantity. I will still keep it frequent to maintain the essence of the show - “Daily”.

There will be different seasons, based on different stages of my life. So I’m excited to experience more things and document my journey.

To the present moment, Michael’s Daily Reflection has been a vehicle of discovery. By doing this show, I’m forced to reflect on and understand myself better. It has been tremendously impactful, and I would 100% recommend others to do the same. In one form or another, one can start by writing things down in a journal.

I believe Life is a game, and to win, one must understand how things work. Thus, having self-awareness is extremely important.

PS: I find that listening at 1.5 speed works best. My brain takes some time to load, and I aim to speak clearly as much as possible. My English is not the best and I do aim to get better. In that way, this podcast is also a tool for me to practice speaking, expressing my thoughts out loud effectively. A skill that will be useful. Thank me later, Future-Self.

July 9, 2023. Sunday morning. A continuation of my reflection about parenting, and raising kids, as it's relevant in life recently. Also, this is a pretty good parenting technique that I've stumbled upon. Edit: Ending got cut short, so let's me write out what I was saying: I think parenting and raising kids are a beautiful thing, and a meaningful experience to have. It's like re-living the growing-up experience in the context of the present time, the perspective of an adult. I'm excited to be a dad. Thank you for tuning in. Hope you're having a good week, and being productive today. See you in another episode of Michael's daily reflection, another stream of my consciousness. 269. Reference Point

2023-06-1013:59

Jun 10, 2023. Saturday morning. I skipped out last weekend, being stuck with ideas, and I felt pretty unproductive! Having an idea now, so trying to get it done before the inspiration is still high. Reference Point refers to the idea of having previous experience that allows us to connect the dots and make better decision in the moment. It's also like how memory works, easier to remember thing when you have a reference point. A wise insight from a guy named Michael that we talked to at the baseball game. May 6, 2023. Late Saturday evening. 11:14pm. A bit late but the feeling is there to get the episode done. This is an important parenting principle that i would like to have for myself. The long term approach of teaching. After thought: Niece* not nephew. Also my flow of speech is degraded. Had to edited out a bunch of filler words. Shows how not practicing and soon enough one would start to lose/forget the gain. Download the Callin app for iOS and Android to listen to this podcast live, call in, and more! April 15, 2023. Saturday morning. Inspiration from the movie Inside Out, and yesterday date with my girlfriend.
