Happy Birthday to one half of the dynamic duo! Michael shares what he's learnt most in the last year and Angie reminisces about being the same age ("Hey! I'm only 5 years older!" - Ang). It's also the 100th anniversary of the first car to lap Australia. Little Bubsie, left from Perth in 1925 and the two lads didnt think they were setting out to go around the whole country, but decided to put the baby Citroen through it's paces. Warren May has restored a car from the same era to do the journey once again, he shares his knowledge and the stories of Neville and Greg. Meanwhile in the present the LA Protests against the ICE raids in the United States have dominated headlines, so we need a US political expert in Dr Aiden Warren from RMIT, as we look at how significant a moment this is in western democracy. Beloved Australian author Jackie French took the time to share her experience being homeless as a teenager. It's a very raw and honest account of events that Jackie kept secret both at the time and throughout her life. We felt it was vital to include Jackie's story as she told it; a young girl who loved reading and writing, forced onto the street, determined to make it to university and a better life. We thank Jackie for joining us in conversation this month as we highlight homelessness in our communities for Blanket to the Border. WARNING: Some of this episode's content may be confronting and may not be suitable for young listeners.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
And you wouldn't necessarily know. Our good mate and host of Rural Focus, Leah, has been homeless twice in her life and was kind enough to share her story. This month, if you could donate a new blanket as we Blanket to the Border for our communities, it would make a difference for a range of people doing it tough. Head online to triplem.listnr.com to find a drop off point. There's also so many good things happening in our patch, as Nic Cage's the Surfer hits cinemas (it was filmed on our beaches) coinciding with the Margaret River Pro and Holly brings us the world's biggest fishing report across our two oceans. Happy Mother's day by the way, hope your kids and partners are better organised than Michael. Hopefully your kids are better behaved than Angie, who spent her youth mooning traffic cameras. Welcome to the new podcast format! We've decided to mix it up and explore some of the behind the scenes of radio, while still bringing you some of the best chats from the week. Angie took a couple of days and that can be a pretty big deal in radio (or so we thought)! The cost debate between solar energy and fossil fuels has shifted dramatically. While solar installations require upfront investment, long-term savings are significant. Solar panels generate free electricity for 25+ years, reducing utility bills and shielding homeowners from volatile fossil fuel prices. Fossil fuels, though cheaper initially, come with hidden costs: environmental cleanup, health impacts from pollution, and price fluctuations due to geopolitical tensions. Solar energy eliminates these risks, offering predictable costs and ROI. Governments also incentivize solar adoption through tax credits, making it more accessible. For a detailed cost breakdown, explore https://green.org/2024/01/30/solar-energy-vs-fossil-fuels-a-comparative-analysis/ . The data confirms: solar is not just ethical but economically smart.
