Description

The Mike Drop podcast is hosted by former Navy SEAL, Mike Ritland. It is a not so politically correct discussion of wide ranging topics that span from government, politics and war to health and fitness, from guns and survival skills to food and nutrition with music, BBQ and a touch of everything else in between. This is THE platform that is completely raw, totally unfiltered and in your face, while still intellectually sound with good intuitive dialogue between A-holes that know what they’re talking about.

From being an Irish special forces soldier conducting operations at the height of the British/IRA conflicts to fighting for America as a Green Beret in Iraq and Afghanistan- Kevin Owens has Over 30 years of experience fighting for the country he lives in at the highest level possible. I talk a lot about maximizing opportunity as I believe there is no shortage of it in this country. This episode is a prime example of it. I sat down with Angel Cortes - former L.A. gang banger turned Army Ranger, and now studying to be a registered dietician to help the type of communities from which he came from. Lots of great insight into immigration policy as well as rising up in the face of abject poverty and adversity. The Ironman race... 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run. A ridiculous feat of preparation, endurance, and mental toughness. To not only finish, but to be a 3 time North American champion and shatter numerous course records around the world is on a different level. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Matt Hanson who accomplished just that, and asked him all about what that’s like at that magnitude. I was always a big fan of triathlons growing up, and this episode I had a lot of questions and desired insight into the mind of someone who has competed at that level. From bike crashes to shitting yourself, we get into what it really takes to push yourself way past what you thought was possible. Born in Kuwait and baring witness to the gulf war Iraqi invasion of his home country, Yousef Badou grew up around the kind of violence that made him want to combat it as he got older. After serving several combat tours as a U.S. Marine, he took part in a special project to train and teach other war fighters to be able to assess and predict violence through body language and context. The last few weeks have been some trying times in our nation, to say the least. I wanted to bring two former guests on with as relevant of a perspective as I could think of to both shed some light from their perspective as well as give mine, while having a healthy and necessary discussion. This episode I had the honor of having former SEAL Remi Adeleke and former Army Ranger Nick Irving discuss all things race-related for our country. I hope that those who listen, do so you understand and not respond or confirm. Starting by respecting one another, and truly trying to understand the others perspective is the key to moving forward and coming together. Hearing about men being led into battle and ultimately being lost is something that is never easy to listen to, but is necessary to digest as a nation keeping the promise to never forget about its soldiers that pay the ultimate sacrifice. There are times when I have the opportunity to sit down with some extraordinary men and am routinely humbled by their stories. This was absolutely one of those times. Mike Day is a retired Navy SEAL who was shot 27 times on one mission, and managed to kill the 4 insurgents who shot him, then walked himself to the medical helicopter. I've had the pleasure of speaking to quite a few fellow combat vets about their experiences in the Middle East. Even with that, I wasn't prepared for hearing Ephraim's account of the battle for taking back Mosul from ISIS after U.S. Forces pulled back. Arguably the most polarizing story in the history of the SEAL Teams, the war crimes accusations surrounding Eddie Gallagher have made it a tumultuous story for our entire nation. The president intervened when pre-trial confinement protocol wasn’t being followed, the media has portrayed a narrative and perspective, now it’s time to hear Eddie’s side of the story. I sat down with Eddie face to face, and wanted to get all of the questions I think most of us have answered. Irrespective of what side of the fence you sit on, listen to the whole thing and get all sides before you judge. The inspiration that comes from speaking with real life heroes is impossible to quantify. I continue to be humbled by the caliber of individuals that are willing to share their story with me. In sitting down with former green beret/unit member and owner of Fieldcraft Survival, Mike Glover, I continue to be amazed. After 20 years of service to this country in the highest of capacities, we talk about his experience as tomb guard, green beret, and Tier 1 operator. More importantly, we talk about how those experiences shaped who he is and how he brings that knowledge to your everyday citizen through his company, Fieldcraft survival.   - Jump to a Topic -   18:36 - Childhood/growing up 23:15 - Joining the military 31:49 - Tomb of the unknown soldier duty 40:50 - Special Forces training 49:10 - Special ops deployments/operation redwings 1:24:00 - "The Unit" 2:03:40 - Benghazi 2:15:06 - Friends lost in combat and how to deal with it 2:18:56 - Getting out of the military 2:46:20 - Active shooter/ 2nd Amendment 3:04:55 - How to fix politics and D.C.   Apparel, accessories, protection dogs, and online training at https://trikos.com Online dog training at https://teamdog.pet Team Dog Facebook - @TeamDogTraining Books, Blog, Media and more from Mike Ritland at https://mikeritland.com   Survival and weapons training at www.fieldcraftsurvival.com Fieldcraft Survival on Instagram - @fieldcraftsurvival Follow Mike Glover on Instagram - @Mike.A.Glover
This episode is especially meaningful for me. Two of my closest friends, (Clint Emerson and Shane Hiatt) that I’ve been to war with,  and all three of us close with Glen Doherty.  We talk about our time together with Glen in platoons at SEAL team 3, Iraq, and transitioning out into entrepreneurism afterward. Never a dull moment with these two bad asses.   Sponsored by @originlabs @originusa @bubsnaturals
With all the conflicting information out there about health and nutrition, I feel obligated to bring different folks on regularly to discuss the ins and outs of all things food. In this episode I sit down with nutritionist and fitness model Rachel Scheer, and she drops some serious knowledge. Grab your notebooks on this one! Sponsored by @originlabs @originusa
A strong, powerful and independent woman who perseveres through whatever stands in her way... is a perfect description for my guest on this episode. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Lt. Commander Nikki Selby, a combat veteran flight nurse with an absolutely incredible story she was kind enough to share with us. Prepare to be inspired folks- this one is fantastic. Sponsored by @originlabs @originlabsusa
Our way of life that has become routine and ordinary is one of the biggest contributors to our societal degradation. The only way to fix this issue is for each of us to act, and that starts with setting the example. In this episode I sat down with Jason and Iris Gardner, and they exemplify such an example. Very raw emotion from both about life experiences, the horrors of combat, sexual assault, and the positives we can all draw and learn from with those experiences. Sponsored by @originlabs @originusa
There's no job more polarizing and controversial right now than being a police officer. There have been a number of stories in the past few years that have fanned the flames of controversy as it relates to how officers use their authority. It's a constant tough job where split second decisions that have life long impacts occur constantly. This episode I sit down with Sam Bonilla, a captain with a Chicago suburb police department, attorney and USMC vet right in the thick of where our mainstream media highlights such issues. We talk about all things cop, from race relations to drugs, second amendment rights, Body cams, abuse of power and training deficiencies. Great perspective from a man who's lived it for over two decades. Sponsored by @originlabs @originusa
The rivalry between Marine Raiders (MARSOC) and the SEAL teams is fierce and constant. I'm often asked about the difference between the two, and what they are like. In this episode I sit down with Nick Koumalatsos to talk about them, Force Recon, and all things leatherneck. More importantly, we dive into his book "Excommunicated Warrior" to discuss the path and struggle that exists for veterans as they find their way back into the civilian world upon exiting from the service. Great info and insight about struggle and how to overcome it. Sponsored by @originlabs @originusa
Ladies and gentleman... we got em. Those words forever etched in our minds from the day that Saddam Hussein was finally captured after months of raids and tireless searching. I sat down with the man responsible for breaking the source that led to that capture. Saddams right hand man finally gave him up after Eric interrogated him, and account of the amazing journey of the operators that ultimately nabbed him is gripping to say the least.
