Today I’m talking Christmas minimalism with author, Meg Nordman. Her recent release, Have Yourself a Minimalist Christmas, is a great resource as you navigate the holiday season. We live in a society where we’re bombarded with advertisements and, let’s be honest, our children’s irrational input; it’s hard to be decisive and intentional when it comes to the holiday season. I hope this episode assists you as you simplify your homes, schedules and gift giving this year. Disclaimer: Maybe don't listen to this one with the kiddos - we discuss Santa around the halfway point! A new series focused on ‘real’ minimalist moms: It’s odd to refer to this series that way but I wanted to encourage the everyday mom that you don’t have to go to extremes (or have a giant platform) to influence minimalism to those around you. *About Jeanette:* Jeannette Cleveland is a Christian, a wife and a stay-at-home mama of 3 small children ages 4, 2, and 10 months. Before having kids, she taught math at a public high school in Durham, North Carolina. She enjoys reading about simple living, counseling others on personal finance through her church, and hosting people in her home. Jeannette began pursuing a minimalist lifestyle about 4 years ago after the birth of her first child. A few months into the journey her life was dramatically altered when her little brother passed away of an opioid overdose at the age of 24. Minimalism has been a helpful tool for her as she has navigated grief and processed physical & emotional baggage in the wake of his death. Pursuing a minimalist lifestyle has helped keep her home, budget, and life from being filled to the max with trivial stuff so she can focus on what matters most to her: loving others. She views the greatest gift of minimalism to be how it frees up space and resources so one can be more generous and more hospitable with less stress. *Discussed in this episode:* * Online Minimalist Party Shop: Simply Lifted ( https://simplyliftedshop.com/ ) * Book: The Lazy Genius Way by Kendra Adachi ( https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/let-them-eat-dirt-saving-your-child-from-an-oversanitized-world_marie-claire-arrieta_b-brett-finlay/11619398/#isbn=1771642548&idiq=34025189 ) * Book: The Art of Happy Moving by Ali Wenzke ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/0062869736/?ascsubtag=amzn1.ideas.DL4M6AD2Z4ZN&linkCode=ic6&ref=idea_lv_dp_ov_d&tag=aiponsite-20 ) Let’s keep the conversation going on Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/minimalistmomspodcast/ ) or Instagram ( https://www.instagram.com/minimalistmomspodcast/ ) ! Join me today as I speak with creator of The Minimal Colonial, Catherine Williams. Catherine is the mother of a three year old boy and military spouse to an Air Force pilot. Catherine believes it's important to create a home where your soul finds peace, and that begins with decluttering your heart in order to declutter your home. Today, Catherine will share her experience with minimalism and parenting an only child. Is it really that different? I wasn't sure so I thought she would be a great person to dialogue with regarding this topic. We also talked a lot about solo parenting (as she has experienced a lot of time alone while her husband has been deployed) and how to navigate overwhelm and apply minimalist principles to your day-to-day.
