<p>Turkiye (MNN) — We previously shared about a church in Turkiye <a href="https://www.mnnonline.org/news/church-closure-threatened-ahead-of-nicene-creed-anniversary/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">facing eviction</span></strong></a>. Government officials said the building is structurally unsafe, but a recent survey by the Chamber of Geological Engineers says it is sound.</p> <p>Three separate congregations meet in the church building — each from different denominations. <a href="https://www.mnnonline.org/mission_groups/forgotten-missionaries-international/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">FMI</span></strong></a> ministry partner Pastor Irik leads one of the three congregations.</p> <p style="text-align: center;"><strong>FMI’s Patrick Anthony, with the latest update, says, “They were given an eviction notice. It was supposed to expire at the end of August. They did…apply for an extension, which was granted to them. They were given a two-week extension.</strong></p> <p>“In the meantime, they have been appealing to the new governor in their area, and his office has been reviewing the case. So now, they’re sitting and waiting.”</p> <div id="attachment_209976" style="width: 310px" class="wp-caption alignright"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-209976" class="size-medium wp-image-209976" src="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Screenshot-2024-08-23-at-9.03.19-AM-300x169.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="169" srcset="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Screenshot-2024-08-23-at-9.03.19-AM-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Screenshot-2024-08-23-at-9.03.19-AM-1024x578.jpg 1024w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Screenshot-2024-08-23-at-9.03.19-AM-768x433.jpg 768w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Screenshot-2024-08-23-at-9.03.19-AM-1536x867.jpg 1536w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Screenshot-2024-08-23-at-9.03.19-AM-2048x1156.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /><p id="caption-attachment-209976" class="wp-caption-text">Image is a screenshot from Pastor Irik’s interview with the ANKA news agency. (Screenshot courtesy of FMI)</p></div> <p>Christians in Turkiye face numerous challenges, particularly when it comes to practicing their faith openly. The government often imposes restrictions on church activities, and many believers have limited options for places of worship. Pastor Irik’s church is the only operational church building in the city.</p> <p>Christians also encounter societal pressure as minorities in a <a href="https://joshuaproject.net/countries/TU" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">predominantly Muslim country</span></strong></a>. Turkiye is 96% Muslim (mostly Sunni). Only 0.5% of the population claims to follow Jesus Christ.</p> <p>Yet, this church’s ministry focus has not stopped, and new Turkish believers in the church are declaring faith in Jesus Christ.</p> <blockquote> <p style="text-align: center;"><strong>“A couple of days ago, they were able to have a baptism service which was very exciting,” says Anthony. “So the church is growing and very excited about God’s work and, at the same time, they’re waiting patiently to see what the authorities say about their gathering spot.”</strong></p> </blockquote> <p>Anthony says from our Turkish Christian brothers and sisters, “They have specifically asked that we pray for their patience [and] their faith, that it would continue to grow and remain strong in the Lord as they wait.”</p> <p>Please pray also for the church’s favor with government officials.</p> <p>“They’re trying to walk faithfully with Christ, no matter what.”</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>Header photo is a representative stock photo of a church in Istanbul, courtesy of Igor Sporynin/Unsplash.</p>
<p>Nigeria (MNN) — The <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><a href="https://www.persecution.com/globalprayerguide/nigeria/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">intense persecution</a></strong></span> of Christians in northern Nigeria is <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><a href="https://morningstarnews.org/2024/09/fulani-herdsmen-kill-six-christians-in-central-nigeria/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">creeping south</a></strong></span>, but it’s not stopping believers from embarking on new outreach endeavors.</p> <p>Helen Williams with <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><a href="https://www.mnnonline.org/mission_groups/world-missionary-press/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">World Missionary Press</a></strong></span> says their primary contact, Pastor Andrew, distributes Scripture resources across five locations. WMP booklets contain Scripture and Bible studies in the local languages.</p> <p>These resources are versatile and perfect for the creative spirit of Nigerian believers. “When they get the material, they get so excited [and] they see all of these new opportunities,” Williams says.</p> <blockquote> <p style="text-align: center;"><strong>“They may start out with just one idea or two, but then [they think,] ‘Oh, well, we could use it in this ministry, and we could use it in this.’”</strong></p> </blockquote> <div id="attachment_210272" style="width: 312px" class="wp-caption alignright"><a href="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/WMP_nigeria-2.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-210272" class="wp-image-210272" src="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/WMP_nigeria-2-300x199.jpg" alt="" width="302" height="200" srcset="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/WMP_nigeria-2-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/WMP_nigeria-2-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/WMP_nigeria-2-768x509.jpg 768w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/WMP_nigeria-2-1536x1017.jpg 1536w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/WMP_nigeria-2.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 302px) 100vw, 302px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-210272" class="wp-caption-text">(Photo courtesy of World Missionary Press)</p></div> <p>Booklets have gone to children, prisoners, hospital patients, bus travelers, people on the streets, and more. Also, we traveled with the English booklets received for our July rural mission outreach. Missionaries from various towns and villages came for the Rural School of Ministry and Mission. They all [received] materials to help with their outreaches, such as market outreach, street evangelism, school outreach, youth camp meetings, soul-winning crusades, hospital evangelism, and a lot more.”</em></p> <p>Important Gospel work continues despite encroaching persecution from northern Nigeria.</p> <p>“[Pastor] Andrew is getting reports of churches being burned and ministries being stopped from doing their work,” Williams says. “It’s not closing things down, but becoming more and more of a risk for many of them.”</p> <p>Believers are taking every opportunity to reach new people for Christ. Please pray for them and for Pastor Andrew.</p> <p>“He gets so many requests, and he cannot fill them. We’re having to send him two containers a year instead of one,” Williams says.</p> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><a href="https://www.wmpress.org/donate/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Connect with WMP here</a></strong></span> to learn how you can help cover the costs of printing, shipping, and distribution for this critical work.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p><em>Header and story images depict Scripture booklet distribution in Nigeria. <p>Armenia (MNN) – Armenia recently served as a meeting point for teachers with the <a href="https://www.mnnonline.org/mission_groups/slavic-gospel-association/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Slavic Gospel Association</strong></span></a>.</p> <p>Eric Mock with the Slavic Gospel Association says, “Armenia was a central point for us as teachers from SGA-supported schools in Russia, Poland, Moldova, several countries in Central Asia, even as well as Israel, gathered together to mutually encourage each other, to strengthen one another, to teach one another.”</p> <p>Mock says that rather than feeding that competitive spirit that can exist between different schools, the members of the conference were able to learn and grow together. They came together on their common goal of effectively training up more church leaders. SGA helped foster a time of learning and growth as well as solidifying basic Biblical foundations.</p> <h2>Training for Gospel Outreach in Difficult Places</h2> <p>After a week of intensive time in the Word for teachers, a second conference was held specifically focusing on pastors and church leaders in Armenia.</p> <p>Of the 100 men who attended, 20 were pastors in Armenia. This training served not only to refresh their hearts in the Gospel but as an encouragement as they face the many pressures of living in an area often plagued with unrest.</p> <div id="attachment_210124" style="width: 310px" class="wp-caption alignright"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-210124" class="size-medium wp-image-210124" src="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/1000024571-300x135.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="135" srcset="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/1000024571-300x135.jpg 300w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/1000024571-1024x461.jpg 1024w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/1000024571-768x346.jpg 768w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/1000024571-1536x692.jpg 1536w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/1000024571-2048x922.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /><p id="caption-attachment-210124" class="wp-caption-text">(Image courtesy of SGA)</p></div> <p>Mock says, “The tensions are fairly high in Armenia. They have always struggled to try to sort where their future is going to go. You have the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia that is always on the edge of reigniting. You have the pressure from Turkey. Then the southern border of Armenia is Iran. So they are in this sense, surrounded by a sea of those who would not want them here. So there’s always that tension. Yet in this constantly changing world for them, they are a group of faithful ministers, pastors, missionaries and lay leaders.”</p> <p>This constant onslaught of outside pressures weighs on the Christians as they serve their congregations. So SGA’s goal is to point leaders back to Christ and serve them as they minister to the Church. “We love God’s Word,” Mock states. “We exalt God’s word, but we also love the Church. We’re not beside the Church or in the distance of the Church. We want to serve the Church that God has raised up. Then finally, God has raised up the Church to be His ambassadors of the gospel. So it is these churches that have been here for generations and generations who are faithfully taking the gospel.”</p> <h2>A Call for Prayer</h2> <p>The Church in Armenia can feel distant for Christians in the West. However, the Church must stand together, even across the world. Mock asks that people get involved by praying for leaders in Armenia and other parts of Asia.</p> <div id="attachment_210125" style="width: 310px" class="wp-caption alignleft"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-210125" class="size-medium wp-image-210125" src="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/1000024598-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" srcset="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/1000024598-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/1000024598-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/1000024598-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/1000024598-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/1000024598.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /><p id="caption-attachment-210125" class="wp-caption-text">(Image courtesy of SGA)</p></div> <p>“Pray that the pastors would stay on task, that they would continue to be focused on the gospel – focused on bringing the gospel to their people. It’s easy to be overwhelmed with all the events, and some of the pastors express that they’re fearful that their sons are going to be dispatched back to the front lines and to the border to prepare for possible other hostilities that could come in the future. So there’s this constant tension. All of these things can serve to wear out pastors and ministry leaders. <p>Türkiye (MNN) — One city in Türkiye has a single operating church building. Now, that building may be facing closure.</p> <p>Last month, the three congregations that meet in this historic building received an eviction notice from a government official. The notice said the building was structurally unsafe and the congregations would have to move out before August 24.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p> <p>Turkiye’s history of quakes makes structural integrity an issue everyone is invested in. <strong>However, Bruce Allen with <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a href="https://www.mnnonline.org/mission_groups/forgotten-missionaries-international/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">FMI</a></span> says the church has gathered evidence that that shouldn’t be a concern with their building.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></strong></p> <p>“They have just had a survey done by the Chamber of Geological Engineers — another government agency — and their foundation is secure. <p>Pakistan (MNN) — To follow Christ in Muslim-majority Pakistan is to know hardship. So that’s been difficult to hear about as well,” says Miller.</p> <div id="attachment_209626" style="width: 310px" class="wp-caption alignleft"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-209626" class="size-medium wp-image-209626" src="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/449456052_915312240622499_9117211895272232064_n-300x300.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="300" srcset="https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/449456052_915312240622499_9117211895272232064_n-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/449456052_915312240622499_9117211895272232064_n-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/449456052_915312240622499_9117211895272232064_n-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/449456052_915312240622499_9117211895272232064_n-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/449456052_915312240622499_9117211895272232064_n-180x180.jpg 180w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/449456052_915312240622499_9117211895272232064_n-1536x1536.jpg 1536w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/449456052_915312240622499_9117211895272232064_n-100x100.jpg 100w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/449456052_915312240622499_9117211895272232064_n-500x500.jpg 500w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/449456052_915312240622499_9117211895272232064_n-350x350.jpg 350w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/449456052_915312240622499_9117211895272232064_n-1000x1000.jpg 1000w, https://www.mnnonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/449456052_915312240622499_9117211895272232064_n.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /><p id="caption-attachment-209626" class="wp-caption-text">Children’s Bible Club (Photo courtesy of Mission India)</p></div> <p>Please pray for Indian families out of work due to the flooding that they will find support through the local Church.</p> <p><strong>Miller says, “We are asking for prayers that our church planters will be able to get back to the field [and] that communities would find hope in the Good News as they rebuild homes, rebuild roads and all the things that have been damaged in the flooding.”</strong></p> <p>Also, ask God to comfort the grieving communities in Kerala state.</p> <p>Learn more about <a href="https://missionindia.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Mission India’s ministry programs.</span></strong></a></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p><em>Header photo of the flooding in India’s Kerala state, courtesy of Mission India.</em></p>
