This is a special episode that focuses on uncovering the symbolism and meaning behind the story of Jesus healing the Demon-possessed man. It is an adaptation of a written essay written for school titled Spirituality, Politics, and Exorcism:  An Examination of Biblical Commentaries on Mark 5:1-20.   Let us Know if you enjoyed this experiment by emailing us at Conversationsthatshapeus@gmail.com or find us on twitter at @Modernanabaptis1.     Bibliography  Carter, W. In Part 2 of our COVID retrospective we talk about Apocalypse. The act of unveiling, uncovering something. We ask the question: what has COVID uncovered about the Church?
There is hope that after more than a year, the COVID-19 Pandemic might slowly be unwinding here in the Global North. Today we start with a personal reflection living and working in the Pandemic in Canada.  Over the next few episodes we will look back on the Pandemic and ask questions about Church, Mental Health and Relationships.
Welcome to the 10th episode of the Modern Anabaptist Podcast. In this episode we react to the #exvangelical movement. We look at deconstruction once again, talk about cognitive dissonance and ask whether the Bible has stories that encourage deconstruction of our faith.
Anger: one of our emotions, often hard to contain and frequently misunderstood. In this episode we discuss whether anger can or should be productive, or whether anger is always destructive.
Not everything we record makes it into a Podcast Episode. Here a little outtake from our most recent episode on singleness.
The way we speak about singleness in church and in the larger culture is a pervasive problem. What would it look like if we looked at singleness both as a burden and gift? In this episode, we talk about the pressure of being single, how our language shapes what we think about singleness, and we also talk about singleness as a gendered issue within our churches.
Have you ever wondered why Jesus continued to have wounds after he rose again?  While we are taking a break from our regular episodes, this is a short reflection by Rafael on Jesus, the resurrection body and scars.  Click here for the New York Times article Rafael references.
Suicide is one of those things we often don't know how to talk about. In this episode we discuss how we can have deeper and more helpful conversations around suicide. We also discuss death and how death is a part of what it means to live and to be fully human.
Over the past few years, scandals have embroiled the Christian archeological community as some highly touted archeological findings have been found to be counterfeit. This brings up the question: why is Biblical Archeology important? Should it be? And much more importantly what importance does the absence of presence of proof have in our daily life of faith?
