Just like we go to the physical gym to get stronger, fitter and faster, we need to go to the mindset gym to work on our mindset muscles. And there’s 3 muscles in particular that if regularly trained can bring our perspective to life in the most beautiful way, regardless of what is happening in our lives… Agency, Acceptance, and Appreciation. The Hero’s Journey might be one of the most important themes we’ve ever covered in Mojospresso, because it's one of the most powerful frameworks to help us all navigate this crazy thing called life right now. The whole idea of the Hero’s Journey is that it’s the real story of life - or the "no-filters" experience of being alive, struggles and all. We’re born, we pass through childhood to the messiness of adolescence, eventually being spat out into adulthood where we face more internal and external conflicts on the next round of adventure. Because these patterns are so recurring, the Hero’s Journey framework can be an incredibly powerful tool for us to navigate change and uncertainty. And when we can move through each of the 3 Chapters, we can come to terms with who we are, what we're made of, and what we're here to do in this weird and wonderful world. Ready to do the work? Whilst there can be healthy distractions in life - particularly those unexpected laughs, we didn’t think we needed - there are also unhealthy distractions that can potentially have pretty big consequences. These are the kinds of distractions that can often pull us away from focusing on the stuff that really matters, like our most important relationships, our precious time and our ability to be more present. In this episode, we discuss some the biggest forms of distractions and how we can start reframing our approach so they don’t surface as regrets later in life. Ready to do the work? In this episode of Car Chats, we go for a ride with Naomi Shepherd - one of the most senior leaders at Meta, mother of 3, and someone I’ve personally been lucky enough to work with since…2018. Throughout our drive we discuss her leadership journey, both as a parent and business leader, in particular the importance of how she’s come to terms with leading herself before leading others. We also chat about her perspective on life and love, and the realities of juggling all parts of life, ‘plate spinning’ as she calls it. And we also chat about how she incorporates a sense of playfulness into her parenting style - including a fictional character ‘Trevor’ she’s created for her kids. Car Chats with Crowey is a series where we learn from others’ stories and their own hero’s journey over a chat, coffee and the ‘safest’ car ride in the world… psychological safety that is. With millions of leadership books out there it can be difficult to find the right definition of what makes a good leader or what leadership even is. But one thing we do know is, that when someone finally learns the formula for leadership they often say “Ohhhh… so that’s a leader!” In this episode, we simplify what makes a great leader and let go of this mythical hero-type leader, or thinking it’s about ourselves, as opposed to the impact we can have on others. We went for a ride with Michael Cassel, producer and CEO of the Michael Cassel Group - the team behind many incredible theatre productions such as Hamilton, The Lion King, Les Miserables and Pricilla Queen of the Desert… just to name a few! Throughout our drive, we discuss the power of dreams and how they shaped his career path- when he applied for his first job at the age of 12. We also chat through the struggles the performing arts industry faced throughout the pandemic, and how he lead and managed an international team of actors and actresses through this by controlling the controllables. Lastly, he shares with us his best advice to help us remove fear and pressure in an audition (job interviews), the dangers of identity and the importance of separating what you do from who you are and your self worth from your job title - a not so easy task when your name is in fact the company name.

One of the reason Play is misunderstood is because of the way we define it. Somewhere in the process of growing up, we may have become unconsciously serious and lost our interpretation of what it actually means to play and to be more playful. In this episode, we explore how we define Play at Mojo and how it might just be the missing ingredient for those of us looking for a little more perspective. Ready to do the work?
