Moody Movies: Hamnet (2025)Kylie and Elliott have their first surprise episode! In this episode, they chat about their most anticipated movie of the year, get a little feisty (or at least Kylie does) about uncritical film consumption, and recount just how many tears they shed. Kylie and Elliott announce a change before talking about the movies they watched. Along the way, they navigate the complexity of loving a movie that the audience sees as a different movie, become stressed out by a perfectly crafted messy woman movie, gush about a masterful animated film, are quietly blown away by an unique documentary, love watching their province on film as their province (and having the space to reflect on what they love and hate about this place called home), and close off a marathon movie day with a bananas movie that sticks the landing (at least for us). Kylie and Elliott feel middled by a beloved filmmaker’s new movie, fall in love with an early Hitchcock, sink into the sumptuous world of a France they’ll never experience, have their hearts swell and break by a vital documentary, and try to absorb the love of a film they don’t care for by seeing it with their nieces. Kylie and Elliott see a white whale in the theatre for the first time, like a movie more than a lot people (but less than they wanted), have a bananas theatre experience during a bananas movie, get vexed by why they love a director so few others do, and the complicated tasks of witness the inhumanity of humanity.Support the show:Give us a tip (as much or as little, as often or just one one time!) to help us keep the show goingFollow and interact with us on Instagram: like our posts, join the conversation on episode posts, send us a cheeky DMLeave us rating and/or review, wherever you’re listening from Tell someone about the show!Contact us: moodymovieclub.pod@gmail.comFollow along onInstagram: @moodymovie.clubLetterboxd: kylieburton Letterboxd: ElliottKuss Hosted on Acast. Moody Movies: Andrei Rublev (1966), Orlando (1992), Transit (2018), Chess of the Wind (1976), La Bête (2024), Babyteeth (2020). Kylie and Elliott are joined by Lily Kazimiera—a Toronto-based, Alberta-born picture editor, actor, writer, and filmmaker— for an Unconventional Period Piece Syllabus. The three start with an interrogation on genre, why period pieces connect or do not connect for each of them. In turning to the six films curated by Lily, they consider what it means to create art in times of destruction, consider the fluidity of self in a sumptuous film, feel the radical content and impeccable setting of a miracle movie, get walloped by capital C choices, feel the terror deep in their bones, and consider why messy, human movies often act as emotional exfoliants. Guest information: Lily Kazimiera is a Toronto-based, Alberta-born picture editor, actor, writer, and filmmaker, best known as a series lead and contributing writer on the Canadian Screen Award-winning CBC Gem series "I Hate People, People Hate Me." She primarily works as a film editor and Assistant Picture Editor under the Director’s Guild of Ontario. In her spare time, she is active on Letterboxd and her Substack page, “Intakes”, and serves as a founding member of Queer In Post, an organization that provides career development and community-building resources to established and aspiring 2SLGBTQIA+ workers across all areas of Canadian post-production. She is currently editing her first feature film, “Waves/’Amwaj” written and directed by queer Palestinian-Canadian filmmaker Fateema Al-Hamaydeh Miller.Find Lily and support her work:GoFundMe for WavesLetterboxdInstagramSubstackI Hate People, People Hate MeSupport the show:Give us a tip (as much or as little, as often or just one one time!) to help us keep the show goingFollow and interact with us on Instagram: like our posts, join the conversation on episode posts, send us a cheeky DMLeave us rating and/or review, wherever you’re listening from Tell someone about the show!Contact us: moodymovieclub.pod@gmail.comFollow along onInstagram: @moodymovie.clubLetterboxd: kylieburton Letterboxd: ElliottKuss Hosted on Acast.
