Week three of Advent focuses on joy. In the Christmas story told by Luke, the angels announce a good news of great joy that drives out fear. Why are joy and fear connected? In this teaching, Josh explores this connection and the invitation of joy.
Week two of Advent focuses on peace. There are often two Jesuses that are talked about. Jesus 1.0 is the meek, compassionate Lamb who came to show love and grace. Jesus 2.0 is the Lion who is coming back to take revenge on his enemies. Is this how it works? Which is Jesus? In this teaching Josh invites us to see the real Jesus, the peacemaking Lamb.
"Therefore, the Lord will give you a sign. The young woman is pregnant and is about to give birth to a son, and she will name him Immanuel."When Isaiah wrote those words, who was he talking about? We immediately want to say "Jesus," but (in the words of Lee Corso), not so fast! By digging in to the original context, we can better understand why Matthew chose this text for his birth story of Jesus. Happy Advent!
Josh talks about advocacy and faith with Dan Haseltine (Jars of Clay, BloodWater) and Scoggins Berg (The One Campaign).
This week we wrapped up this edition of Bible Stories for GrownUps by looking at the Book of Daniel. What's going on with all the visions and dreams in this book? Is it really about the end of the world (nope!)? Listen in for more on the Book of Daniel!
MCC participant Cheryl Hughes teaches.
This week we focus on the story of Jonah. Who was Jonah? What's up with the big fish? What's the point of this story? We talk about it all in this week's teaching.
This week we discussed the story of Elisha & Naaman from 2 Kings 5. Does God ever show up? Listen in as Josh invites us to wrestle with another Bible Story for GrownUps.
This week Josh invites us to see and embrace the challenge of Ruth's story. In a time of increased fear of the "other," Ruth calls us beyond our tribal boundaries, and into a better way to be human.
