Tonight for our final guest we want to chat with someone that everyone from the running community in our area knows, Emma Belcher. Emma is a big-time volunteer, giving so much to the community, on the board of Legs for Literacy here in Moncton. Emma ran the Ottawa Marathon in 2016. Runner 3 2 1 - With Amanda Mills Sirois #172

Amanda Mills Sirois is our special guest this week and it is exciting to have her on our show. Amanda started running indirectly because of a 5km wine run, and things took off from that point. With her running partner Allison, they ran the Ottawa marathon and came close to qualifying for Boston. Hired a coach to help with qualifying, job done. Raised money in support of Down Syndrome and ran the legendary Boston Marathon. Amanda was not done yet, not even close. Managed to run all 6 of the major marathons in 4 years, how does one top that? Well Marathon Pour Tous in France, that's how. Recreational or non-elite athletes have been invited to participate in an Olympic event for the first time. Running the same course as the marathon athletes and with an Olympic medal in 2024, amazing.Motivate to move Facebook page, check us out.https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=10004160769949The email e-transfer link for Tim and his familyfortimandjennie@gmail.comAs always, please give the gift of life and donate blood today.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/motivate-to-move--4528736/support.

Joyce the Catcher King - With Joyce King #171

Diane lined up a fantastic guest for our episode this week, Joyce King from Lower Hainesville N.B. Many of you don't know that Joyce was a champion arm wrestler. Even crazier is the fact Joyce started at the late age of 30. Skip ahead 10 years and Joyce defeated a Russian rival super heavyweight to become the best female arm wrestler in the world. I was unaware of this, but Joyce competed with her right and left arm over her career. Joyce earned 18 national championships and 18 World Arm Wrestling Federation medals, she won 12 gold, four silver, and two bronze medals. Inducted into the Canadian Arm Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2011. Inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, on October 15, 2021. Joyce the Catcher King was her nickname and for good reason. I don't want to spoil it here but you should listen to the episode and find out why the Catcher King is so appropriate. A wonderful episode and I am sure our audience will enjoy this one a ton. Motivate to Move email, let us know who should be on the show.motivatetomove.podcast@gmail.comMotivate to Move Facebook page, check us out.https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100041607699495As always please donate the gift of life and give blood today.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/motivate-to-move--4528736/support.

Thornton Bridge Parkrun - With Bob Dumouchel #170

In this episode of Motivate to Move we chat with Bob Dumouchel, Bob loves staying active, cycling, and running just to name a few things. Bob volunteers for many local events and sometimes leads runners in half marathons while on his bike clearing the way. Bob chats with us about the Thornton Bridge Parkrun in Fredericton. What is a Parkrun you might ask? Parkrun is positive, welcoming, and inclusive, there is no time limit and no one finishes last. Everyone is welcome to come along. You can run, walk jog, and volunteer and it is a free event. This happens every Saturday at 9 AM all over the world. Very interesting to hear Bob tell us about everything Parkrun. You might want to get your barcode and head on up to the next free Parkrun. Gran Fondo PEI - With Amir Zuccolo #167

Our guest this evening was a heavy smoker and in 2006 started cycling. Amir had no idea how much this would change her life. Amir has done a famous ride called the Golden Triangle twice. Riding from Banff to Golden in one day, Golden to Radium the next day, and from Radium back to Banff the third day. works out to roughly 100 km daily and has incredible elevations and scenery. Now Amir focuses more on trail running and includes strength training and yoga to keep on trucking. Amir has a goal of running a 50 km trail run in every Province, awesome. Coaching kids to help them ride confidently, Amir is a busy lady with her hands on many different things. Now she is in charge of this awesome ride in PEI called the Gran Fondo, the 11th year for the big ride across PEI. This ride has been designed to show the best parts of PEI and because it is a recreational ride you can stop along the way and visit local shops and experience some of the local cuisine. Friday, August 23rd to the 25th, register through Race Roster and hurry because there are only 300 spots total and it is filling fast. Amir and her group have thought of everything for the Gran Fondo and we are sure the event will go off without a hitch, I can't wait to hear about it after the fact. At the end of this episode, Amir shares a shocking story with us and I was left speechless. Luckily, Amir overcame all this adversity and has been killing it ever since. Here is the Gran Fondo PEI website, check it out and perhaps sign up.https://www.granfondo-pei.ca/Gran Fondo Facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=Gran%20Fondo%20PEIMotivate to Move email, let us know who should be on the show:motivatetomove.podcast@gmail.comMotivate to Move Facebook page, check us out.https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100041607699495Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/motivate-to-move--4528736/support.

An in-depth look at the speeding Cheetahs - With Ryan O'Shea and Nathaniel Couture # 166

Tonight we welcome two very special guests back to our show. Nathaniel Couture and Ryan O'Shea are on our podcast again and we were very excited to welcome them and they have brought three very special guests with them. With Nathaniel is his son Sam who is 14 and with Ryan is his son Liam who is 13 and his daughter Amelia who is 9. Tonight's episode will focus on the Speeding Cheetahs and what young ones think about the group. What it is like to lead some of the younger children. With 233 registered kids for the Spring, it is easy to say kids want to run, and Ryan and Nathaniel are filling this vital role. This episode is packed with great stories by the children and some jokes. Diane and I do a lot of laughing, the kids are wonderful and we now know kids just want to run. Having 13-14-year-olds helping to coach younger kids to run is an amazing idea. And the puddle jumping sounds like such fun I want to give it a go. We hope other groups will start up after hearing this episode. Sit back and munch on some popcorn with your family, get out with everyone, and go for a run. Motivate to Move email, let us know who should be on the show:motivatetomove.podcast@gmail.comMotivate to Move Facebook page, check us out.https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100041607699495As always please give the gift of life and donate blood today.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/motivate-to-move--4528736/support.

Reality set in - With Diane Trites and John Leygraaf #165

In this episode, Diane and I chat about some real-life issues we have run into recently. How we struggle to stay motivated and what we are doing now to keep on moving. Life can be a tricky balance of family, work, and even the weather. Just because we are on the other side of the mic doesn't mean things are always rosy. We wanted to share some of the issues we face in hopes others who struggle will keep up the good fight to stay motivated. There are ups and downs for all of us and I hope people who listen will realize they are not alone. Motivate to Move email, let us know who should be on the show:motivatetomove.podcast@gmail.comMotivate to Move Facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100041607699495As always, please give the gift of life and donate blood today.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/motivate-to-move--4528736/support.

A stress purge - with Sebastien Godin # 164

We welcome Sebastien Godin Back to our podcast this evening, Sebastien was with us way back on episode 16, over 3 years ago. Sebastien quit drinking and smoking lost 100 pounds, got into shape, and started running all sorts of distances including marathons. Bucket list in hand Sebastien set out to break some personal goals. He qualified for Boston but had some issues on the course and wanted to redeem himself. After only 4 weeks Sebastien ran the Fredericton marathon to qualify for Boston next year. Beat the qualifying time for Boston by 5:45, it's close but we here at Motivate to Move believe Sebastien has it all under control. Working on track workouts and interval training has made Sebastien a faster runner, training and a coach made all the difference. Sebastien shares a wonderful story where he found a full pack of cigarettes while on a trail and you should hear how he handled the situation. Sebastien won the Sylvio Bourque Memorial Award (Inspirational Person of the Year) at the RunNB Awards in 2023. Sebastien has recently become a RunNB member willing to help the organization in any way he can, awesome. This water feels so good - With Julie Stokes #163

Tonight's very special guest comes to us from Riverview NB and is part of the Riverview Running Idiots like myself and Diane, it was a pleasure to welcome Julie Stokes to our show. Julie Stokes is the Supervisor of Water & Wastewater for the City of Moncton, NB where she assists in the supervision of the Municipality’s Water & Wastewater Operations. Julie has lived in Riverview for 4 years even though the plan was to stay only 2. Started running in the Fall of 2012 on a dare and a few pops.  Proved to herself that she could run and went to Ottawa in May 2013 for her first 10km race, had an amazing experience in Ottawa, and was hooked. Joined the running room clinics, first came the 10km clinic and somewhere along the way, she was told she would never finish a half-marathon race, Oh yeah, watch me now.  "Gremlins in my head" is a great story you need to hear from Julie as she learns to shut down her negative thoughts. Thanks to a Covid Garmin watch gift to her daughter, Julie had a run partner through Covid. Don't forget Julie shares silly sewer stories while running and she has some good ones. Enjoys camping and now runs on the trails in Fundy Park.Motivate to Move email, let us know who should be on the show:motivatetomove.podcast@gmail.comMotivate to Move Facebook page, check us out:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100041607699495As always, please give the gift of life and donate blood today:Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/motivate-to-move--4528736/support.

Party at the back of the bus - With Jen Williston and Maryse Babineau #162

We invited Jen Williston and Maryse Babineau on our show today to talk about the Moncton Women trail running group. We wanted an update about events that the ladies are going to compete in this year. The first thing that strikes you when you listen to this episode is how dedicated these women are to their trail running. Tuesday is the day and for these two ladies, it is non-negotiable even with the busy lives they lead. We talk about the stress relief of getting out and running with the group. How the group started and if they run trails in the Winter or even in the dark. Of course, a trail-running podcast episode isn't complete without talking about Bacon. If you are in the area and want to run with the Women's trail running group check them out. Cake and coffee for the win - With Ian Loughead #161

Our very special guest tonight is Ian Loughead, senior conservator at an N.S. museum. Early on Ian was into team sports, Soccer, and especially Baseball. Later on in his 20s, Ian started cycling and doing road races, 70-90 km runs and he did this for 5-6 years. Of course, this led to Duathlons and finishing over 20 Triathlons. This has all led to Ian being involved in the Maritime Dog Harness Association and Harness Dog Sports. Canicross is a sport where a dog and a human run together. Your dog needs to be on their lead throughout the event and harness belts and bungee lines must be in use. A great way for people and dogs to get outdoors exercise and have some fun. We discuss Ian's charity race for Movember every year and how Ian only got serious about running in his 40s. See it's never too late. Lastly, we talk about how Ian is now into coaching runners and how much he enjoys helping others reach their goals.Motive to Move email, let us know who should be on the show:motivatetomove.podcast@gmail.comMotivate to move Facebook page, check us out:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100041607699495As always please give the gift of life and donate blood today.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/motivate-to-move--4528736/support.

Dr. Bob Forbes is back on our show this week, what he did is so amazing and cool we couldn't wait. Dr. Bob ran a marathon in Antarctica, meaning he has run a marathon on all 7 continents. The best part is we talk all about it, so few people have thought about doing what Dr. Bob did. Bob and his wife took a boat ride to Antarctica and away he went. We hear about the weather, what it was like getting there, the terrain, and much more. We chat about Bob and his Boston marathon runs and the one coming up on April 15th. We Believe and Empowered to Ride - With Dan and Caleb Foote and Wyatt Macquarrie-milco #157

We had a wonderful interview with all three of our guests Dan Foote his son Caleb Foote and one of their instructors Wyatt Macquarrie-milco. The charity We Believe last held in 2023 in Saint John brought over 8 thousand educators, students, and speakers together simultaneously. The message was simple, encouraging youth to be the Change. Some of the issues on the table were mental and physical health, volunteering, bullying, self-worth, and how each of us can better the world. This event was live streamed all over the world and 2025 will be even bigger and better. Tickets for the event are free and all the links will be below in the notes so check it out.  Empowered to Ride is another program, instructors Caleb Foote and his good friend Wyatt are helping kids get on donated and bought mountain bikes and go riding through the trails. Inspiring our kids to stay active and get outdoors. Now they have 10 bikes and the demand for children taking this course is high so why don't we help these guys get more bikes to help more kids? links are below. This is a great story and one that we hope others will hear and support. Speaking with the specialist - With Graham Black #156

Tonight our very special guest is Graham Black, a native of Montreal who has lived in Moncton for the past 24 years. Graduated from Concordia University, with a degree in Sports Medicine as a Certified Athletic Therapist and Strength and Conditioning Specialist with over 25 years of experience in both fields. Graham is also the athletic Therapist for our Moncton Wildcats and is currently Co-owner of Sportmed Max in Dieppe. A former guest that we enjoy having on, Michael Roy, suggested making an appointment to see Graham and I am very glad I did. We discuss the difference between a Physiotherapist and an Athletic Therapist and some of the common injuries that Graham sees. Graham surprises us with something he is seeing more often, I didn't have this on my radar at all but makes sense when you think about things today. When Graham isn't seeing people at his clinic he is hard at work with the Moncton Wildcats, Go cats go! Winning the Memorial Cup is always the goal and maybe this year that will happen. We had an amazing discussion and Graham is so good at telling stories, especially about when he needed a suit at the last minute to be hired for the Wildcats job.   I enjoyed my time at Sportmed Max Physiotherapy and I wanted to get the phone number out there for anyone who could use any of the services that they provide, links below. Use it or lose it - With Greg Scott #155

Greg Scott started racing mountain bikes at a later stage of life finishing dead last for the first few. After Greg had some races under his belt the results got better and better, now at 63 Greg hopes to make the podium and keep on biking as long as possible. With two broken ribs, one clavicle,  seven broken helmets, plus cancer treatments and a ton of bike parts replaced, there is no doubt Greg loves racing mountain bikes. Greg also designs and maintains courses trying to use the lay of the land to help with a more natural design plan. Why not work in a bike shop with some spare time, Greg loves to help others get on their bike and accomplish their goals. An inspiring tale about someone who just will not give up. The Elgin 80 is Greg's next big race and we believe he will have fun no matter where he finishes, good luck GregMotivate to Move email:motivatetomove.podcast@gmail.comMotivate to move Facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100041607699495As always, please give the gift of life and donate blood today.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/motivate-to-move--4528736/support.

Your direction is more important than your speed - With Cory Richardson #154

"How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives." Words to live by and Cory Richardson does live by these words that is why we invited him back onto our show. Cory is very passionate about getting our youth outdoors more and on the internet less. We wanted to take a deeper dive into how this could be accomplished. We discuss a wide range of topics about how this may be done. Our direction is more important than our speed, just getting started is half the battle. How many people have gear for outdoor activities they never use, I know I do. Maybe the schools could help out? it's possible. We are hoping that someone can listen to this and help this process along. All the links are below if you would like to contact Cory and see if there might be something you could do. Let's spread the word and help to keep our youth more active in the great outdoors. That would be good for everyone, mentally and physically.
