Well it's finally happened, we kept our long-standing promise to finally split up our top 10 adventure movies which were originally lumped in with top 10 action. It's a very exciting time, especially because we intentionally snub some of the most obvious and cliche picks so we can include our personal favorites that deserve more recognition. Tune in and let us know if we missed your favorite adventure movies as well! Before that, Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of Now You See Me: Now You Don't, Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, Carry On, and both he and Jake discuss briefly first part of Stranger Things final season. Jake has also seen Roofman, Red Sonja, Merry Ex-Mas, Hot Frosty, Things Heard & Seen, and Zootopia 2.----Special thank you to Alan Hlavacek and Travis Mason from Attack on Venus for the sick theme music! This episode we are FINALLY joined by one of our favorite podcasters and Movie Bonerz Awards presenters - Brian Ruppert from the Reviewing History Podcast. We get deep into some of the most accurate and least accurate movies based on a true story. We also discuss historical movies in general - debating to what extent accuracy matters and how the audience and the subjects in the film can be affected. It's an amazing time, so check it out and check out Reviewing History and their holiday special Bandcamp promotionhttps://www.youtube.com/@reviewinghistoryhttps://reviewinghistory.bandcamp.com/Before that, Jake gives spoiler-free first impressions after watching "Megadoc," the making of Megalopolis documentary, and also season 4 of Stranger Things ahead of the final season in a couple weeks. Dustin hasn't watched anything new, but Brian gives thoughts on a pair of kids movies: Stitch Head and Leo. ----Special thank you to Alan Hlavacek and Travis Mason from Attack on Venus for the sick theme music! Hopefully you don't have Christmas decorations up yet, because we're extending the spooky season just a little bit. Have you ever wondered, if you remove the jokes, how scary that comedy actually is? Are you still traumatized by that "family-friendly" fantasy movie from your youth? We realized there are many very scary movies outside the horror genre, so we've each compiled our top ten most horrific, and they are all over the spectrum. Dustin also rewatches a movie he swore he'd never watch again! Before that, Dustin gives his spoiler-free first impressions of 28 Years Later, Bring Her Back, and Triangle (2009). Jake has been watching Netflix and shares thoughts on The Perfect Neighbor documentary, The Woman in Cabin 10, and both season 1 and 2 of Nobody Wants This. Jake also has been catching up on horror/thrillers from the early 2000s, and finally watched Joy Ride and The Ring for the first time.Stay tuned to the end of the episode for a very important podcast announcement, and let us know what non-horror movies you find scariest of all!----Special thank you to Alan Hlavacek and Travis Mason from Attack on Venus for the sick theme music! A couple months ago that we spun the wheel of random movies and selected 10 on the show. Well we finally watch them all and have a lot of thoughts. What a random mix of films, some very good, some very, very bad. Check out the highlight at the top of our Instagram profile for which movies we picked and where you can watch them, largely for free. We learned how Gene Kelly broke into Hollywood, we debate the empowerment vs exploitation of extensive nude scenes, and in a totally separate movie Jake worries he may have accidentally downloaded and sent Dustin porn with a yeti in it. ....yeah.Before that, Dustin gives spoiler free first impressions of the remade "Salem's Lot (2024) and also M3GAN 2.0. Jake of course is watching Love is Blind: Denver and The Golden Bachelor, but actually has important recommendations in "Chad Powers" and a really unique indie film called "Hellbender" (2021).----Special thank you to Alan Hlavacek and Travis Mason from Attack on Venus for the sick theme music! We're filling the gap in our delayed Random 10 episode with our second of the commentary format episodes - just in time for spooky season! This movie has come up on the show many times in the past, but it's so rich and deep and brilliant that it made complete sense to break down the whole thing scene by scene. Just in time for Halloween, join us as we watch Hereditary and chat all the way through it.We also get into...Ari Aster and how he's the new generation's ShyamalanHow Toni Collette just doesn't get the credit she deservesWhy the scariest parts of this movie aren't even the demon trying to possess themHas A24 peaked and gone too mainstream? Is Neon filling that void now?Which effects and stunts were practicalThe one scene that Jake could live withoutAnd most importantly, all the ways that mental trauma is a secret foreshadowing of the possessions and how the demon manifests----Special thank you to Alan Hlavacek and Travis Mason from Attack on Venus for the sick theme music! Last episode was a movie no one's seen that very few people like, so this episode we're digging into movies everyone should have seen and almost no one dislikes. This trilogy, and the characters and themes within it, is deeply personal to both of us. In this episode we revisit the context of the time Batman Begins came out 20 years ago, and the myriad of ways comic book movies and cinema in general have been changed since. We pick apart some very petty issues in each film, we go through each character and actor performance, and dig up some fun facts and Easter eggs along the way! Let us know why you love these movies or any issues you have with them. We also want to hear your best Batman and Bane voices - so leave us a voicemail: +1 (724) 4-BONERZBefore that, Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of The Conjuring: Last Rites, The Long Walk, and the new Office spin-off The Paper. He also watched a bunch of documentaries: Trainwreck: Poop Cruise, Woodstock '99, AKA Charlie Sheen, and the Unknown Number: High School Catfish doc Jake talked about last time. Jake gives his initial thoughts on Nobody 2, Weapons, Final Destination: Bloodlines, and the new I Know What You Did Last Summer.----Special thank you to Alan Hlavacek and Travis Mason from Attack on Venus for the sick theme music! I told you I'd make Dustin watch this - and boy did it pay off! I know it's probably a bad podcasting idea to cover a movie no one saw and that the director pulled from all distribution channels... HOWEVER I just saw you can stream MEGALOPOLIS on Apple TV+ right now! So get a free trial and check it out because you will want at least some context for this episode. We dig into all the characters played by spectacular actors and how badly wasted Dustin Hoffman was. We try to explain the fable and allegory as best it makes sense. And we struggle to fathom how a movie about America has zero grasp of what it is or was (or really Rome, for that matter). There are interesting things that worked, and more that should work on paper, so it's complicated and definitely an interesting discussion. Lots to dig into, and we want to hear your takes as well. Leave a voicemail or shoot us a text: +1(724)4-BONERZBefore that, we need to spin for another random movie because we can't find one of the 10 picked last episode. Then Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of The Naked Gun (2025), The Thursday Murder Club, and revisiting Ben Hur. Jake shares thoughts after seeing Together, Primitive War, and Unknown Number: The High School Catfish.----Special thank you to Alan Hlavacek and Travis Mason from Attack on Venus for the sick theme music! There are quite a few directors who absolutely blew the doors off with their first feature film. We have been combing through and tried to find our favorites to try to create the most powerful teams of debut films. We also spin ten random movies we should all watch within the next six weeks (find more details about where to watch on Instagram). And finally, it took five years and tens of dozens of episodes, but after a comedy of errors Jake finally breaks down in the most ridiculous and uncontrollable giggle fit just trying to make technology work. I considered taking it out, but I've left in all Dustin's bloopers over the years, so I guess I was due. Sorry. Before that, Dustin gives his first impressions of after seeing Weapons and The Tom Green Documentary. Jake has just watched the first season of The Hunting Wives, the renewed season 14 of King of the Hill, the first episode of MobLand (finally) and as promised, Citizen Kane.Have thoughts about the episode? August 11th marks eleven years since the world lost Robin Williams, and the possibility of more performances in the future. But the legacy he left is a rich and diverse one. We do our best to touch on as much as we can, touching on all the fan favorites and also many underappreciated gems that time seems to have lost. We discuss his unique comedy, his knack for drama, and his very convincing villain run. And yes, Jake has finally watched Death to Smoochy. We watched a lot of new Robin Williams movies, but before that, Dustin shares spoiler-free first impressions of Fantastic Four: First Steps and Final Destination: Bloodlines. Jake gives a summary of two shows: Your Friends & Neighbors and Untamed. Then we both watched Until Dawn and of course Happy Gilmore 2.Have thoughts about the episode? This episode we invite our good friend James to make his feature episode debut! As a reformed Film Snob, he brings great insight, curiosity, and as always tons of fun as we discuss both the practicality and pitfalls of mainstream pretentious critics. When we're on topic, we discuss the role professional movie critics play in audience reception. We also debate if the role of critic is still relevant (or if they ever were), and to what capacity. Perhaps now more than ever the phrase "everybody is a critic" applies, because some of our favorite movies were found ignoring the formal recommendations. When we're sidetracked, we discuss movie going differences between Australia and the States, personal values and parenthood changing our perception, the downfall of movie poster art, and crying during Venom 3, and much, much more!Check out the "I Was A Teenage Film Snob" podcast! James and friends are always having fun and insightful movie discussions, including a growing backlog of interesting industry interviews. https://linktr.ee/filmsnobHave thoughts about the episode? This episode, we finally return to taping into a full director's filmography (mostly). Guy Ritchie has been crazy busy lately, movies and shows coming out all the time. While some see his career as being very up and down, we review and speculate why the misteps make sense, and why some of his flops deserve more credit than they get. We discuss his original short film: The Hard Case, in addition to Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Swept Away, Revolvr, RocknRolla, Sherlock Holmes & Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Aladdin, The Gentlemen, Wrath of Man, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, The Covenant, and Dustin's favorite movie of 2024 - Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (we only both didn't have time for Fountain of Youth and MobLand). It's also amazing how many times his work should have launched massive franchises, but didn't. We still hold out hope for revivals in the future! Before that, Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of Superman, Sinners, Jurassic World: Rebirth, Minecraft, Risen, and Monster Summer. Jake has watched most of Squid Game season 3 and The Better Sister.Have thoughts about the episode? For this episode, we try a new type of discussion. After hearing that movies are built on a triangle of art, technology, and business, and that each side impacts the others, we wanted to put that to the test. We invite entrepreneur and old friend of the show Christian to bring the Business angle, while Dustin and Jake champion Art and Tech respectively. There's a lot of pros and cons weighed, and a lot of devil's advocacy against ourselves as well. Definitely a fun and interesting time, and a bigger concept than we had time to completely tackle so let us know what points we missed and we'll continue the conversation in the comments! Before that, the guys give spoiler free first impressions on new stuff they've been watching. Dustin saw Mountainhead. Jake watched Under the Banner of Heaven. Christian is deep into How I Met Your Mother. Then all three discuss a fantastic new short film from Harry Waldman called Enter the Room. Currently in festivals but should be making its way online around the end of this year. This episode gets crazy quickly, as one of us took this assignment very seriously and the other... not so much. We to talk about some of the worst film fathers ever put on screen. We also have a ton of new movies to share first impressions: Dustin watched Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Thunderbolts*, Heart Eyes, The Four Seasons, Missing, In a Violent Nature, and YOU (Season 1). While Jake gives his impressions of Black Mirror Season 7, Severance Season 2, Fear Street: Prom Queen, Juror #2, Another Simple Favor, and lots of Keanu with Ana De Armas in Exposed and Knock Knock... plus the Wick is Pain documentary. And the Movie Draft has a major lead change. Oh, and HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! John Wick holds such a special place in our hearts, that it's incredible to look back and realize it came so close to never happening so many times. This episode we thank Keanu Reeves for his dedication and for saving and transforming action movies not once, but TWICE! We dive deep into spoilers of all four movies, and try to emphasize the lore and meanings of each character in this high-fantasy world with gritty, real world violence. We also get deep into all the characters and why they work so well, not just because of how they're portrayed, but their deeper mythological meanings as well. And finally, we speculate about the future of this rich world and spinoffs and a confirmed 5th movie abound. We definitely look forward to Ballerina, Caine, and Chapter 5 whatever it ends up being, and despite any fears, have total faith in the creators (as long as they stay attached).Have thoughts about the episode? After enjoying our first ever Fog Day celebration last year, as April 21st approached again we wanted to take things to the next level. It sounded like a good idea to try the next generation with the remake. That was before we realized it has a 3.7 out of 10 on IMDb. We try our best to make sense of things and see the bright side, but still come away with a ton of questions and so many issues. It's a really fun time though, analyzing how this was made and how it should have been done instead. So sorry if you have to watch this because of us, but it certainly led to a very interesting conversation! Before that, Jake gives spoiler-free first impressions of Too Old to Die Young, Severence season 1, and Sisu. Dustin has only seen The Chosen Season 5. Three months in, we finally hold the 2025 Movie Draft, where we try to select (what we hope will be) thirty of the biggest and best movies of the year to our teams. We'll track progress and major matchups throughout the 2025 season, and talk a whole lot of trash. We also recap what went right and what went very wrong for both of us in 2024 and crown a champion who gets to take home the belt! Before that though, Dustin gives spoiler-free initial thoughts on "The Monkey," "Stopmotion," and "Caption America: Brave New World." Jake gives his first impressions after seeing "Alien: Romulus," "Civil War," and of course the new season of "Love is Blind." We also correct the Bond movie news from two eps ago. Then finally, we got to watch a very impressive new short film hitting festivals soon called "Liquor Bank" and share all our thoughts. Thanks to Adam Freed from MovieArcher.com for the opportunity. At long last, awards season can come to a close! The Movie Bonerz Awards is meant to be the final word on all the madness, and clear up several controversies and snubs the more "household name" shows missed out on. There's a lot they got wrong, and there's a lot we need to set right, so that 2024 can be remembered accurately as the year it was. It's good to be back! We've missed you terribly. A lot has happened in the past nearly 5 months, and we've watched a lot of new movies in that time as well. We knock the dust off by sharing spoiler-free thoughts on all the things we've been watching, while teasing some controversial opinions leading up to the 2024 Movie Bonerz Awards next episode. You can also join us during the awards LIVE on YouTube, Friday March 7th at 7:15pm MT. In this episode, we also catch up on movie news and trailer reactions leading up to the 2025 Movie Draft. But first we share big life announcements as well, giving you a feel for where the show is at and what to expect going forward. Plus Jake built a theater in his house, has started ingesting caffeine in a very strange way, while Dustin had a profound, life altering experience. Lots to uncover in a jumbo-sized episode! If you're caught up on podcasts and want more, or just want to support us to make the show better, join the Official Movie Bonerz Fan Club! With Joker: Folie à Deux releasing very soon, we felt it appropriate to revisit one of the best and most different comicbook movies ever made. We analyze what made it such a surprise success, almost as surprising as Todd Phillips completely separating from his comedy roots. We reflect on the story, both as huge Batman/Joker fans, but also just as an iconic film in cinema history for its visual style and the performances within. But I think most importantly, we discuss the portrayal of mental health and the relationship society has with it, as well as the tendency for people in bad situations to find the wrong people to blame and also elect just the worst people to hopefully lead them out of it. Then of course we also share our hopes and dreams (and mainly concerns) about the sequel in advance of its release.
Before that, Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of Hit Man, Under Paris, Night Swim, and Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Jake also saw Hit Man, and randomly shares thoughts on Planes and Perfect Match season 2.
