http://hearsepileup.bandcamp.com/
http://www.hearsepileup.de/ad/ ← don’t be fooled, they aren’t in Germany
Matt is a web developer.
IE6 ← August 27, 2001
Tell us about your music and tell us what’s new!
Been around for 3 years
Matt started the band after a long period of doing nothing. British art school people are often insular.
Tony is an old friend. Band is angry.
Matt did listen to a lot of prog, but
Where did the project name originate?
First drummer came up with the bad luck name.
What type of music is it?
somewhere between messy punk/noise
The Coachwhips (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coachwhips),
Queens of the Stoneage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queens_Of_The_Stoneage),
Iggy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iggy_Pop),
White Stripes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Stripes)
What’s the deal with “Pretty Shiny Things?”
criticism of capitalism while being entrenched in it.
Matt works at a design company, where he’s gotten some help with band promo.
Johnny Rotten (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lydon) is in a house robe. Rotten apparently did some butter commercials.
Martin Atkins: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Atkins
“Pay what you want” EP
Montage! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU9Uwhjlog8
What’s the news on the new drummer?
just got a new drummer!
What’s the news on your gigging schedule?
no gigs yet, but that should be changing soon
How long has it been?
2 months...which Tom claims is nothing!
New material?
lots of new stuff...enough for an album,
They want to do another music video -- probably something new
Defecation is the name of a song!
We are eating shit!
Matt did graphic design, but likes short films!
Violence?
songs can be violent, but it comes from a critical standpoint

Also, a good way for publicity
How’d you hear about it?

Wu-Tang clan has one album out!
Definitely not Irish: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaolin
7-inch was popular because cheaper
CC in London?
Not a lot locally.
Little Death Machine: http://littledeathmachine.bandcamp.com/ -- not CC
Who are some people you think we should try to get on the show (aka, who are the important people in Creative Commons music today)?
The Vitamin Pets: http://vitaminpets.bandcamp.com/ , sadly, no derivatives
Is there anything else you would like to say/tell us about?
Festival upcoming!
The Wild

I apologize for the long hiatus loyal Punkcast listeners. I don't have any ETA on when I'll be back. I finish law school in very late April though, so I'm hoping some time after that I can get back in the swing of things.
The first thing I need to do is go back through the Music Manumit catalog and see if there is anything I need to re-release. I doubt there is. If there was, I probably would have thought to do it like I am doing now.
Anyway, enjoy this interview with Witt from folk punk band The Wild!
Louis Lingg
mp3 audio | ogg audio | torrent | unedited video
I did a little better on show notes this time.
Dogmazic.net is cool!
Jamendo is Luxemborg, not French.
Jamendo has been unfriendly and banning people.
What does "punk" mean to you?
Punk rock is political. ALWAYS. Politics is similar
Crass! Josh grew up in England. Thatcher is dead!
Last time we spoke, things were bad. Are things better in France?
Government has changed. Now there is a socialist government. That's the only thing that has changed! Still hunting down immigrants.
No human value.
French socialism!
France cannot welcome all the misery of the world. People that say that are idiots!
Immigrants make new innovations! That's why America used to be great.
Fascism is there to say "it's all the immigrants fault."
What are your touring plans?
Always doing crazy concerts.
They played in an old mineshaft with insane anarchist squatters in the suburbs of Paris. A lot of luck with the band. Enough room for 200 people in the cave.
Played in Berlin recently and got to see squats.
Playing Paris all the time. Playing a new squat, aka "Jew Town".
Brittany is just green.
Acoustic shows all the time. New acoustic recordings coming soon. Getting better at acoustic shows.
Police have decibel meters and such bars down. Basically, music is illegal.
Some of your stuff is under BY-SA and some is under -NC, why is that?
Just trying stuff out.
With AF Music (http://www.af-music.de/en/bands/) which started releasing under CC ~6 years ago.
Not to be confused with AF Records (http://www.a-frecords.com/) or the Air Force (http://www.afmusic.org/)
What are some of your favorite CC punk artists?Pete Vyler
If you want to know more, check out the interview Tom and I did with Josh last year. I've also played several of their tracks in the past on the Punkcast.

mp3 audio | ogg audio | torrent | unedited videoThis summer, I plan on doing interviews every other week with punk artists of various types from all over the world. David Rovics is American, but is currently touring in Scotland. He sat down with me for 20 minutes or so talk to punk music, politics and more. I couldn't really take notes like I normally do when Tom and I do shows together. The plus side of doing these summer shows is that I have ultimate flexibility with scheduling. The down side is that show notes are either not going to happen or will require going back and reconstructing them.I'd also like to apologize to David for taking so long to get this out. I was traveling last week and managed to get sick while doing so."I'm a Better Anarchist than You" by David Rovics (folk punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website"Halliburton Boardroom Massacre" by David Rovics (folk punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website"Why Don't They Play You On The Radio?" by David Rovics (folk punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website
It's been way too long, so I thought we should have a quickie. Er... Well, you know what I mean, right?
I probably wouldn't be sharing this particular track except that it comes from an album entitled "Experiments in Punk Pedagogy / Live at The New School" and I thought it might engender some discussion.
So, is it punk?

PS: This is a subscriber exclusive. Since it's just a single track and the track is already on archive.org, I didn't bother iterating on archive.org. Rare release, just for you. ;)
In the spirit of being as random as possible in dispensing with remixable Creative Commons punk goodness, I have another show for you today!!!!mp3 audio | ogg audio | flac audioThis time, the unifying theme is my banshee plays. I use my phone sometimes and I have had other computers in the past and don't port over my plays, so this is a reasonable approximation of the tracks from the past year, but won't line up with Last.fm exactly.I did a similar thing on the main show, where there are no genre limitations (and a different list of previously played tunes)"Punknews is Stoked" by O Pioneers! For this show I decided to go first through my Top 500 All-Time Last.fm tracks and pick the first 6 punk tracks I haven't played on the show that are remixable.
116. "Class War" by Gråsuggorna (punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website
130. "75" by De Fuckups (punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website*
305. "On The Run" by Gråsuggorna (punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website
342. "You and Me" by Shearer (orgcore) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website
*Actually, I could have played more De Fuckups, but I didn't want them to take over the show.
I didn't have enough in my Top 500 (without playing more De Fuckups), so this last two are from the Last Year list. Yes, these are both from the same band, so why discriminate against De Fuckups? I don't know. I guess I've just listened to them too much and am a bit tired of them at the moment. Also, their website appears to be down at the moment.
13. "Conspiracy" by Louis Lingg and the Bombs (punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website
13. "Zapatista" by Louis Lingg and the Bombs (punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website
Technically speaking, the re-post of Louis Lingg and The Bombs was the 7th show...I just failed to make it 007. What a huge fail. I hope so sweet tunes will make it up to you, even if it is just a repeat of my tracks from the latest Music Manumit show.ogg audio | mp3 audio(I figured I should get with the program now that I know what I'm doing a bit more in Audacity)"Love and Hate Tragedy" by Pete Vyler (punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website"Backstreet Emperor" by Pete Vyler (punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website"My Kind" by Pete Vyler (punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website"I Don't Care about You" by Pete Vyler (punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website"All Around the World" by Pete Vyler (punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website"Failure (Acoustic live) - Bonus Track" by Pete Vyler (punk) - CC BY-NC-SA - Website

A few months ago I gave you the interview for Isaac Graham. This time I give you the interview with Joe of Copyleft Records. If the enclosure doesn't work for some reason, you can listen to the show courtesy the good people at archive.org.I am being lazy and not re-recording the intro. Deal with it. This is punk rawk suckas.
I couldn't be bothered to put together an intro. Law school is time-consuming. I let two months slip by and I just wanted to get some music out the door. You'll notice I didn't worry about the licensees being -NC or not, so no flattr button this time. I hope to do a couple more October shows to check up and maybe I'll go libre at that point. I also didn't worry about finding band websites (except for The Spunk Lads since I have that queued up for the main show already). You should be able to find the band websites from the song titles and band names. I hope not to be such a slacker in the future! If you have trouble finding them, let me know and I'll try to help.If the enclosure doesn't work for some reason, you can download the file courtesy of the good folks at archive.org."Spunk Lads FC" by The Spunk Lads (punk) - BY-NC-SA - WebsiteNote: the version on the website is not the version we are playing. I cut the version on the show since the track on the website is actually two songs."I Hate You Baby" by Jonny Chan and the New Dynasty 6 - CC BY-NC-SA"Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" by Kingface - CC BY-NC-SA"Sheena" by Sidekick Lupchen & The Bad Generation - CC BY-NC-SADedication to my "lawyering" ;) (and the next song)"Fight Song" by Cletus Got Shot (bluegrass or "folk punk") - CC BY-NC-SA
It's a 2 for 1 deal today! Due to my slackness the June and July podcasts have come out today. I know it's poor podcasting form to release two in one day, but I'm a believer in the "release early and release often" philosophy. On the thought of releasing early and releasing often, I have found myself spending more time on the intros than I thought I would but I think that's because it's just me rather than a discussion with Tom. Things are so new and in flux that I have a lot to say as well. Eventually I hope to say "this is the Music Manumit Punkcast" and be done with it!Anyway, this show is a rerun of the Music Manumit Podcast interview with Australian singer/songwriter Isaac Graham. We discuss his punk roots, folk punk, his affiliation with Copyleft Record and more!Per usual, I'm releasing only in the open format ogg. You can download it from the amazing archive.org. If you have an Android phone, this file will work. Many browsers also have ogg support built in. As for media players, Songbird on Windows/Mac will play ogg files. If you want an mp3 version, let me know - just don't tell me you want it for an iPhone because I might not do it. I can get away with being a dick about it because this is punk rock baby!!
I missed June...sorta. I had the show up in June on archive.org. Well, the songs are still here and they are still rockin'!Download ogg*Per usual, if you want an mp3 version, let me know and I can make that happen.Tom's Picks - Punk tracks (in honor of Doug's upcoming punk music podcast)."Ten Dollars" by The Nunchaks (punk) - CC-BY-SA - Website"Copyleft Notice" by Out of Tune (punk) CC-BY-NC-sampling+ - Website"Have a Date" by Mr Feelix (punk) - CC-BY-NC-sampling+ - Website"Flash Freddy" by Zampano (punk) - CC-BY-Sampling+ - Website"Princess Mononoke" by Louis Lingg and the Bombs (punk) - CC-BY-NC-Sampling+ - Website
Eventually this will be a monthly punk*-only show of remixable Creative Commons music, brought to you my Doug of the Music Manumit Podcast. Many of the tracks will have been played on previous Music Manumit shows, but eventually I'll run out of punk songs from that show.Download ogg* (let me know if you want an mp3 version. There will be very little, if any of what most people think of "post-punk". There will also be very little, if any of what is commonly known as "Emo-core" or "Screamo" (old-school or 'real screamo' may be a possibility)
