Srikanth Mahankali, MD sakm5510@live.com LinkedIn
Dr. Srikanth Mahankali, shared his journey coming from India to the US for additional training in neuroradiology and how his plans changed when his wife and son joined him. He discussed the challenges of the immigration process and his career progression from San Antonio to MD Anderson. His initial work in neurosciences and oncology, specifically using functional MRI techniques, was interrupted by a break from career to care for his son and led to an exploration of non-clinical roles, including completing a program from Harvard Business School.
This episode emphasizes the need of developing a mindset towards taking risks and being open to opportunities due to globalization and exposure to different cultures. The importance of embracing new technologies and collaboration in the healthcare industry was highlighted, along with the need for a holistic approach that incorporates digital technologies and home healthcare.

Guest Tatyana Resnik: www.joyfulsuccessliving.com
In this penultimate episode of "Myth, Magic, Medicine 2 (immigrant) doctors talking" I chat with Tatyana Resnick, who was a cardiologist in her homeland of Uzbekistan, and then came to the USA to start over.
Fueled by her childhood experience with her grandmother's illness, Tatyana's passion for medicine ignited at the tender age of 12 reading old medical texts.
Tatyana's journey took a turn as she prioritized raising her young daughter. She now enjoys her "day job" as a hospitalist and has added life-coaching, authorship and podcast host to her many occupations. Don't miss out on this compelling story of a determined doctor who wears a lot of hats!

In this episode, I talk to Joanna Kingsley and Emill Levasseur from the Dominican Republic
Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, Emill and Joanna pursued their dreams of becoming physicians, but they didn't meet until 2013, on the day they started as Internal Medicine residents at Lincoln Medical Center in the Bronx, NY
After completing their training in New York, they married in 2016 and relocated to Florida to work as hospitalists. Emill became the Chief of Medicine and Medical Director of the Hospital Medicine Program, while Joanna became a core faculty member of the new Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency Programs.
This year they founded Impact+Capital, a syndication company to assist other physicians in investing in real estate with a social purpose.
Joanna and Emill are in the process of relocating to be near family in Dallas,TX with their 3 young girls (youngest is in the interview if you watch on YouTube). Their goal for 2024 is to strengthen the connection with physician real estate investors in their high-performance coaching program.

My time in medicine began not long after S.O.A.P .became a thing and several of the older physicians were very suspicious, some kept an entire family's history in a single record and only a few secluded spots in the hospital were available for longform documentation. Charts were often indecipherable to all but the author and billing staff. EMR was seen as a wonderful far off thing so this episode was very educational for me. The pdf Dr Stegink alludes to in the episode is available through the link below.
Dr. Ryan Stegink has always been curious about how the world works, majoring in physics before going to medical school. Dr. Stegink now works as an outpatient general pediatrician and enjoys caring for patients from all over the world, using his Spanish skills on a daily basis. He also enjoys encouraging colleagues and trainees, having been through burnout himself less than a year out of training. Part of Dr. Stegink’s path through burnout included optimizing his own charting and practice workflows, and he now coaches other physicians around charting so they can create margin to support their own values and priorities through his signature program, Charting Mastery!.
You can find out more about Dr. Stegink over at Mededwell.com, The MedEdWell Podcast, or on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn by searching MedEdWell
He has a FREE PDF guide with 10 tips to help you finish your charting faster! Get your copy here

in this episode I am chatting with someone I talk to often, since we became accountability partners several months ago but it was a delight to learn more about my guest Dr Melinda Williams Willingham.
An experienced pediatrician who completed her residency in 1998 and in private practice for almost 25 years she recognized early the influence of politics and policies on healthcare and she took on leadership roles in the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and was appointed to the National AAP committee on federal government affairs.
In 2017, Melinda attended a technology conference that gave her a fresh perspective on the changing healthcare landscape. Inspired by this, she co-founded a nonprofit organization using telemedicine and a mobile unit to provide healthcare to underserved children in schools. Seeking to deliver innovative and patient-centered care while avoiding an overwhelming patient load, she decided to start her own solo practice. Despite launching during the pandemic, her practice has flourished, making a positive impact on the community.
She loves to share her experience with other physicians and can be reached though social media channels

In this episode we start with how medicine has changed and how much better women are now represented in the profession, the differences in medical training and licensing between Eire (Southern Ireland )and other countries, and Fiona’s choice of career as a General Practioner.
Fiona shares that she has been working in general practice for 15 years and has gotten to know her patients well. She believes that knowing about their lives and experiences helps her to see them as human beings. They briefly touch on the issue of burnout in medicine and the need for balance between anecdotal evidence and scientific research. Fiona's website, Wellness UR Way, offers classes on various techniques for feeling well and is open to anyone.

In this episode I chat with Sujin Lee, a physiatrist with subspecialty training in spinal cord injury.
Sujin chose a hybrid career of clinical, research and teaching on leaving fellowship and now, also, coaches physicians. We talk about the changing face of medicine and the increasing acceptance of alternative ways of practicing now; part-time, telemedicine... She notes there is still hesitancy in mainstream academic medicine but things are slowly changing.
Physicians are human beings first and being a healthy human is necessary to be a healthy physician. Pursuing other career opportunities is sometimes the better choice and Sujin makes the case for finding a coach to help with the process. It is clear more support and coaching programs within medical schools and the healthcare system, in general, would be beneficial for all medical staff.
"... I see some people thinking that looking for help is a sign of weakness. No, it's not! Actually, the people who look for help are the ones that are brave and strong. They acknowledge they need help and go for it. I think that's real true authentic strength actually, not a weakness." Sujin Lee MD

In this week's episode I chat with Trina Dorrah, a hospitalist who has been practicing for 14 years. Inspired by a weight loss coach she hired in 2019, she decided to become a life coach herself in 2020, when she saw how it was changing lives. She believes that life coaching is an extension of the healing personality that physicians already have.
Dr. Trina Dorrah is a physician, binge eating coach, and former binge eater who helps physicians stop binge eating. Because of her personal history with binge eating, she knows what it’s like to struggle with food and feel like you can’t fix it on your own. She knows what it’s like to feel addicted to food and not be able to stop overeating despite your best efforts. She knows what it's like to try and eventually fail every diet you start. She knows what it's like to feel so much shame over your struggles with food. She knows how all of this feels because this used to be her life, too. Now, through the use of evidence-based principles and tools, she helps her clients heal themselves and finally stop binge eating.
