Description

We believe that George R. R. Martin has put a lot of effort and thought into creating a deeper dimension of archetype and symbol in his writing. He’s created connections between past and future, between sky and ground. He’s built on classic figures from world mythology and twisted them around in new and incredible ways to fashion his own archetypal characters whose divine roles are played out by the characters in the story. He’s done all of this not only to be artistic and clever, but because he’s actually participating in a grand tradition of esoteric, symbolic art. Keeping this tradition alive is of critical importance and tremendous value to society, and that is why I believe this facet of A Song of Ice and Fire is so worthy of study. This podcast is intended to be our vehicle to explore these inner workings, and it is fueled by enthusiasm, yours and mine.

Newly edited w/ tons of new pictures! The complete Great Empire of the Dawn story, from Asshai to House Dayne to the Wall! From Azor Ahai and the Amethyst Empress to Jon and Daenerys, this is a close to a combined theory of everything that I have to offer! The original was 6 hours, so I've streamlined quite a bit (note: the Sothoryos section was cut altogether, because I've updated all those ideas in the Sothoryos video :)
The definitive case for Daenerys Targaryen being the fulfillment of the prophecies of Azor Ahai's rebirth and The Prince That Was Promised, and detailed foreshadowing of her endgame (which will mostly be very different from the Game of Thrones ending!)
@girlnettles  and  @GreyWasteTim  join me to break down the many schemes of Petry Baelish, known as Littlefinger, from his provoking of wars to his use of people as pawns to his towering resentments and his embrace of greed and corruption. Lots of Lysa in here too, some Sansa and Cat and Hoster, and of course we'll talk about Littlefinger's future plans as the story goes forward. Nettles and Tim bring down the house with their table reading of Lysa's death speech!!
SPOILERS Fire & Blood - Everything you want to know about the dragonseeds - what they do in Fire & Blood, how they're being adapted so far, who they are as people, and more. Hard Hugh Hammer, Ulf the White, and Addam of Hull (and Allyn of Hull) get the full treatment. These are shaping up to be incredible characters!HotD playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEHvft-cyPmDKN99XRXTtoHGCy1fHGHNX
It's true, Alicent Hightower... is pretty damn funny. Her characterization of House of the Dragon, I argue, is masterful, and a psychology-deconstruction field-day for those of us intimately familiar with well... people like Alicent. And Criston! We'll get into their relationship, and whether it makes sense for the characters. HotD playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEHvft-cyPmDKN99XRXTtoHGCy1fHGHNX
Is that Nissa Nissa? Are they Doing blood magic? Are those glass candles?Maybe, definitely, and probably! Once again House of the Dragon is going deep on dragonlord lore with their new opening sequence featuring the Targaryen tapestry, inspired by the famous Bayeux Tapestry. Plus lots of good visual storytelling and symbolism, so get the whole scoop here!HotD playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEHvft-cyPmDKN99XRXTtoHGCy1fHGHNX
Jace and Baela are your rising stars of Season 2, and I've got he latest intel, character analysis, interviews, photos, and footage! Cregan & the prophecy, Moondancer & Vermax, Baela using swords and crossbows, Jace & Baela's relationship & struggle with grief... Plus a dramatic quote reading from Fire & Blood! HotD playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEHvft-cyPmDKN99XRXTtoHGCy1fHGHNX
Rumors that Nettles has been cut from House of the Dragon are flying, so let me give you the scoop, and more importantly, tell you why Nettles is so important to the story. Like Dany, she is rediscovering original Valyrian magic, and her character's commentary on class and prejudice in Westeros is unique and fascinating. Harrenhal is cursed - but is it cursed with magic, or cursed with very bad occupants? We'll explore its unholy creation by Black Harren and its fiery destruction by Aegon the Conqueror, and how this got the curse started. This will be part 1, with part 2 to follow this Sunday to cover all the subsequent history of mayhem and madness at this most haunted of Westerosi castles.
All of my favorite Daenerys theories, including endgames theories, mythical goddess parallels, theories involving Jon and Euron, and analysis of how her character parallels her magical plot. This is my ultimate Dany theory video, so I wanted it to be really good. Hope you enjoy!
Aegon, Aemond, Alicent, Otto, Crisont, and even Larys - they all have a finger in the political power pie of Team Green, so let's preview season 2 by asking 'who's in charge of this bloody thing anyway'HotD playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEHvft-cyPmDKN99XRXTtoHGCy1fHGHNX
Rhaegar and Lyanna, the Tourney at Harrenhal, Robert's Rebellion, baby Jon snow, the Prince That Was Promised (one part anyway) - what's this R+L=J thing all about? Why did they do what they did, and what was it like for them?
Jon's recurring crypts dream that he can never quite finish? I think there's going to be a dragon at the end of it, and I have a theory about how and why, as well as a new theory about where dragon dreams come from in the first place. The Pact of Ice & Fire and the "Winterfell dragon" are also discussed, as well as how Jon will e a dragon waking from stone when he's resurrected.
Sothoryos, land of monsters and mystery - what in the Green Hell happened here? I'll explain it all - toad idol, fish people, Yeen and the Brindled Men, velociraptors and wyverns and basilisks, settlements by Old Ghis and Valyria, and a new origin theory concerning the Summer Isles.
The 2024 Calendar revealed a big secret about the weirwood trees, and I'll show you what it means and why it's important. This is a big f---ing deal.
The big news: HBO is partnering with writer Mattson Tomlin to develop an Aegon's Conquest show! I've got 5 big questions relating to where the most drama is, what characters besides the 3 conquerors could be featured, the dynamic of the Conquerors themselves, and more.

Daemon's (and Caraxes's) prowess in war is undeniable... but his teamwork skills are a bit touch and go. And there's the crimes to talk about. But also skills that Jon and Dany need to save the world... it's Mr. "Equal Parts Light and Dark" everyone, the Rogue Prince
Fish-human hybrids ARE absolutely real in A Song of Ice and Fire. There are several populations of hybrids around the world, including small pockets in Westeors, and at least three prominent characters may be under their psychic influence - Patchface, Damphair, and Euron. Deep Ones cult turns out to be one of the oldest human religions in Westeros, and could once be found all over the continent. Yes, the Nimble Dick dramatic read is here as well. seems likely to me that that the resulting red comet is actually spreading it's seed across the moon as it passes by. you need a recurring icy event to balance the immortal fire that's been sent to earth?

Ive always associated the oily black stone as petrified shade of the evening trees used as stone, then maybe melted with dragon fire as well. idk

I'm writing this as I listen, I got to the mention of the God Empress and how the Old Ones whisper that she must kill the foreigners. I think GRRM use of Lovecraft is much more nuanced in its xenophobic themes, displaying them in a negative light. Lovecraft's xenophobia & racism really plays strongly into his themes of "other" - and GRRM translate those themes into his Old Ones mythos through displaying how xenophobia negatively impacts humanity, and perhaps how often religions/societal power structures prey on the fear of the other.
