We’re back with another episode of “Here’s the Scoop: Supreme Court Edition.” This month, NBC News senior legal correspondent Laura Jarrett is speaking with legal experts and lawyers to discuss the cases being argued this term — and the legal precedents that underpin them. Our second episode is about the transgender student athletes who are challenging laws in West Virginia and Idaho that prevent them from competing on girls’ teams in school sports. The courts of appeals in each district have sided with the student athletes, but Supreme Court watchers agree that the justices are likely to uphold the bans. Former ACLU national legal director David Cole argued Bostock vs. Clayton County (2020), in which a 6-3 majority of justices established transgender people as a protected class under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits employment discrimination. Host Laura Jarrett talks to Cole about his client Aimee Stephens, who was fired from her job after she came out as transgender. He explains how he won over conservative justices on the high court, and why the stakes are different for the transgender athletes in these cases. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Welcome to “Here’s the Scoop: Supreme Court Edition.” This month, NBC News senior legal correspondent Laura Jarrett will be speaking with legal experts and lawyers to discuss the cases being argued this term — and the legal precedents that underpin them. First up: birthright citizenship. On the first day of his second term in office, President Donald Trump issued an executive order saying birthright citizenship does not apply to the children of undocumented immigrants, arguing they are not “subject to the jurisdiction” of the United States. In making its case, the administration has revived arguments from 1898 made in United States v. Wong Kim Ark. A descendant of Wong Kim Ark reflects on the threat to his family’s legacy, and then University of New Hampshire history professor Lucy Salyer analyzes why the administration is relying on a century-old argument to make its case today. And also, JD, we can talk about more than just groceries. Groceries groceries groceries, he says. How will I buy groceries if I'm bedridden after having both of my kneecaps shot out by my local national guardsmen while passing by a peaceful protest on my way home from my doctor's appointment, where I was told I may develop sepsis due to the lack of options to remove the body of the fetus who was found to have no heartbeat during my first ultrasound? No appetite, no working legs! But...groceries!

Chuck Todd, go fuck yourself. The guilty verdict is important. and the FACT that republican elected officials are spinning the verdict. should disqualify every one of them.

Elise - Sorry to disappoint, but the majority of U.S. voters do NOT agree with your comments about the 2020 election, President Biden's shortcomings or Trump's majestic term. You're just plain wrong and, along with your MAGA friends, are dangerous. If you truly love our country and Constitution, you need to reassess your reckless comments and actions.

I don't know how any sane person could listen to this blowhard being interviewed & not be down to hang Mike Pence afterwards. OMG, what an interminable gaslighting bootlicker. Dude has absolutely no shame, like he's a psycho robot or some kind of alien lifeform devoid of emotion. Bless his heart, he just comes across as a real dullard.

Chuck Todd, you ask repeatedly about people who don't believe the election was settled fairly, and that the president is in fact the president. Why can't you ask instead how they justify their belief without a shred of fact? That is the overriding question! You tippy toe away from the fact that this is a charade! These "deniers" are expressing a tenant of faith in their nationalism. Chuck Todd, ask them why they've never been able present proof despite all that's been said about 'the steal'! Keep saying it in every conversation, because that is at least as important to keep in front of public consciousness, as Democrats opinion on what to do about these nationalists in opposition.
