In 1996, Chuck Parello wrote and directed a sequel to John McNaughton’s brutal, yet oddly haunting exploration of a day in the life of two serial murderers loosely based on Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Toole. H.G. Wells WAR OF THE WORLDS is one of those works that seems to be woven into the fabric of popular culture. The novel was published in 1898 and for over a hundred years, it has come back to us in some shape or form.  The first being the infamous Orsen Welles radio broadcast in 1938 that led to mass hysteria that sparked a debate about the power and responsibility of the media.  1953 brough the first film adaptation directed by Byron Haskins and in 2005 Stephen Spielberg tried his hand at the tale.  There have been several more movie adaptations and the seasons of the UK series based on it.   In 2025, do we need another attempt at telling this story?  Listen to the Necromaniacs and find out!   Intro:    “Necromaniacs” – Mike Hill Outro: “”– Flock of Seagulls

Not exactly a “horror movie” but 1989’s Last Exit to Brookyn is a study of horrible people doing horrible things.  Based loosely on Huber Selby Jr.’s 1964 novel, this bleak study in brutality tells a story of Brooklyn’s savage underbelly. Directly by Uli Edel, it features some familiar faces including Jennifer Jason Leigh, Stephen Lang, Burt Young and Jerry Orbach among others.
