Originally released in 2022, this episode of The PsychopharmaStahlogy Show features Drs. Andrew Cutler and Stephen Stahl in conversation with Dr. Tiffany Greenwood on the genetic and trait-based links between bipolar disorder and creativity. They explore how temperament, personality, and cognitive style may occupy the space between madness and genius, the role of dopamine, evolutionary explanations for why bipolar risk persists, and why stabilizing mood doesn't have to mean losing creativity.   Tiffany A. Greenwood, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California San Diego. Her research uses dimensional traits to refine the genetic signal in bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, through collaborations including the Bipolar Genome Study, the Consortium on the Genetics of Schizophrenia, and the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium. She also studies bipolar disorder as an extreme of normal variation in temperament, personality, cognition, and creativity.  Stephen M. Stahl, MD, PhD, DSc (Hon.), is a psychiatrist, psychopharmacologist, and internationally recognized educator in clinical neuroscience and psychopharmacology. He is the author of widely used educational resources, including Stahl's Essential Psychopharmacology and Stahl's Prescriber's Guide, and his work focuses on translating complex neurobiology and treatment mechanisms into practical clinical concepts for mental health clinicians.  Andrew J. Cutler, MD, is a distinguished psychiatrist and researcher with extensive experience in clinical trials and psychopharmacology. He currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Neuroscience Education Institute and EMA Wellness. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York.   Resources  Greenwood TA, Chow LJ, Gur RC, Kelsoe JR.
