Kyle Smith was announced as the Anne and Tony Joseph Director of Men's Basketball on March 25, 2024, and begins his second season at Stanford in 2025-26.In its first season in the ACC, and the first under Smith, the Cardinal finished the 2024-25 season at 21-14 overall, marking its most total victories since 2014-15 while matching a program record with 17 wins at Maples Pavilion. Stanford went 9-1 at home in the ACC, while Smith is just the second coach in program history to win 20 or more games in his first season. Additionally, the seven-win improvement year-to-year matches a program record for a first-year head coach. Smith saw numerous players have career-best seasons, led by All-American and ACC first team honoree and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Maxime Raynaud.Smith landed at The Farm following a successful five-year stint at Washington State, where he went 94-71 overall, including a 25-10 mark and second-place finish in the Pac-12 in 2023-24. Smith holds a 279-207 career record across 15 seasons as a head coach, including six seasons at Columbia and three at San Francisco. Additionally, he spent 18 years as an assistant coach with stretches at Saint Mary’s (2001-10), Air Force (2000-01) and San Diego (1992-2000).The 2024 John R. Wooden Pac-12 Coach of the Year, Smith led the Cougars to a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the round of 32 with a victory over Drake in the opening round, while the postseason event was the seventh for Smith as a head coach and third with Washington State. The Cougars also reached the NIT semifinals in 2022 and earned a bid for a second consecutive season in 2023.Smith was the first coach in Washington State history to post a .500 or better record in each of his first four seasons, doing so after taking over a program that was under .500 in each of the previous seven campaigns.A talented coach known for expertise in analytics and player development, Smith’s tutelage has included three NBA Draft selections in CJ Elleby (2020), Mouhamed Gueye (2023) and Jaylen Wells (2024), as well as Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Myles Rice (2024), while three Cougars earned All-Pac-12 recognition in 2024. Smith also coached San Francisco’s Jamaree Bouyea, who made his NBA debut in 2023, and mentored a series of professional athletes as an assistant coach, including NBA players Matthew Dellavedova and Patty Mills at Saint Mary’s.Smith has also seen success on the recruiting trail, landing two top-60 classes, the highest for Washington State in over a decade. He signed a top-100 prospect to Pullman in the class of 2022, the first for the program since Klay Thompson in 2008.
Well-known throughout the basketball world for his success as a player and coach at the collegiate and professional levels, Damon Stoudamire became the 15th head coach in Georgia Tech men’s basketball history on March 14, 2023.In his first year on The Flats, Stoudamire and his staff brought in nine new players, including four freshmen, and guided the Yellow Jackets to 14 wins, including three over top-25 teams Mississippi State, Duke and North Carolina. The Jackets beat five teams that reached the post-season, including NCAA Sweet 16 teams Clemson, Duke and North Carolina.He guided the Yellow Jackets back to the post-season for the first time in four years in 2024-25 at Tech went 7-3 in its final 10 regular-season games, finished eighth in the ACC and earned the team’s first ACC Tournament opening-round bye since the 2021 ACC title. The Jackets beat three Quad 1 teams and won their first ACC Tournament game since 2021, and received a bid to the NIT. Stoudamire was named a finalist for the Ben Jobe Award, an honor he won in 2020 while at Pacific.He and the staff have re-shaped the Tech roster by attracting recruiting classes that have been ranked No. 20 (2024) and No. 13 (2025) nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings.Stoudamire came to Georgia Tech after most recently serving as an assistant coach of the Boston Celtics, who currently sit atop the NBA’s Atlantic Division standings. He was with the Celtics for nearly two seasons (2021-22 and 2022-23), after a successful five-season stint as the head coach at Pacific (2016-21). At Pacific, he was named West Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 2020 after leading the Tigers to a 23-10 record in 2019-20, good for the program’s best winning percentage (.697) in 15 years, and a third-place finish in the powerful WCC (behind only national powers Gonzaga and St. Mary’s). He also was honored with the Ben Jobe Award, given annually to the nation’s top minority head coach.
Jeff Capel enters his eighth season at the University of Pittsburgh after being announced as the 16th men’s basketball head coach in program history March 28, 2018. Capel owns a 276-217 record as a head coach at Pitt (2018-present), Oklahoma (2006-11), and VCU (2002-06) with four NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight trip with Oklahoma in 2008.He has been instrumental in the development of 19 first-round picks in the NBA Draft during his coaching tenure, including 11 lottery picks. Capel has also recruited 23 McDonald’s All-America selections and helped build six top-10 recruiting classes.Pitt posted its third consecutive winning season in 2024-25, finishing the year with a 17-15 overall record. The Panthers were ranked as high as No. 18 in the AP Poll before struggling over the final two months of the season. Jaland Lowe earned Third Team All-ACC and Second Team NABC All-District (Mid Atlantic) honors after averaging 16.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. The Panthers season was highlighted by wins over Ohio State, West Virginia, LSU, Syracuse and North Carolina.In 2023-24, the Panthers posted a 20+ win / 10+ conference win season for the second consecutive campaign. Pitt finished 22-11 overall, including a 12-8 mark in ACC play, and reached the ACC Tournament Semifinals. Pitt  earned the double bye in the ACC Tournament with its highest seed (4) since joining the league and became the first team in ACC history to start 1-5 or worse through six games and finish regular-season ACC play with a winning record. The Panthers went 12-4 over the final two months of the season to match North Carolina for the best record among ACC teams from Jan. 20 through the start of the NCAA Tournament. Pitt was one of the last four out of the NCAA Tournament, despite posting nine Quad 1/Quad 2 wins and finishing 40th in the final NET, before declining a bid to the NIT.Pitt led the ACC in three-point field goals (9.6 3pg.) and finished with 317 threes on the season, second most in program history. Blake Hinson earned First Team All-ACC and Second Team NABC All-District honors after averaging 18.5 points per game and making a school record 110 three-point field goals. He also earned National Player of the Week recognition after matching a Petersen Events Center record with 41 points as well as matching his own school record with nine three-point field goals, in mid-February win over Louisville. Carlton Carrington (All-Rookie Team, Honorable Mention All-ACC), and Ishmael Leggett (Sixth Man of the Year) also earned ACC accolades following strong seasons in the backcourt. Carrington, the only freshman in the country to average at least 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game, went on to get selected in the 2024 NBA Draft Lottery (No. 14 overall) by the Washington Wizards (via Portland).

The 2025-26 season is Hubert Davis’ fifth as head coach at the University of North Carolina and his 14th on the coaching staff at his alma mater. He is the only Tar Heel head coach to win 20 or more games in each of his first four seasons.Davis, 55 (turns 56 on May 17, 2026), has won National and ACC Coach-of-the-Year honors, a Final Four appearance, led the Tar Heels to 101 wins, a 56-24 record and 24 road wins in ACC regular-season play, a regular-season ACC title and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Only one other team has won more ACC games in the last four years.Two of his players – RJ Davis and Armando Bacot – rank second and third, respectively, in all-time scoring Carolina history, set numerous records and earned national and All-ACC awards.Carolina won its 100th game under Davis in the 2025 ACC Tournament, making him the third-fastest coach in UNC history and the sixth-fastest in ACC history to win 100 games. Only Duke’s Vic Bubas, UNC’s Roy Williams and Frank McGuire, Wake Forest’s Skip Prosser and Maryland’s Lefty Driesell reached 100 wins in fewer games than Davis (who won his 100th in 143 games).Over the last four seasons, UNC has the 10th-most wins among teams in the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC.Under Davis, Carolina is 8-3 in NCAA Tournament play, including wins against three national championship-winning coaches (Baylor’s Scott Drew, Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski and Michigan State’s Tom Izzo) and three other coaches who have taken teams to the Final Four (Marquette’s Shaka Smart, UCLA’s Mick Cronin and San Diego State’s Brian Dutcher).Davis has led the Tar Heels to 14 wins over nationally-ranked opponents, including eight over top-10 teams (No. 4 Duke, No. 4 Baylor and No. 9 Duke in 2022; No. 6 Virginia in 2023; and No. 10 Tennessee, No. 7 Oklahoma, No. 7 Duke and No. 9 Duke in 2024).In 2024-25, the Tar Heels went 23-14 against the fifth-hardest schedule in the country, went .500 on the road and 13-7 overall in league play and won an NCAA Tournament game for the third time in his four seasons as head coach. Seven of the 14 losses came against teams seeded first or second in the NCAA Tournament. RJ Davis earned his third consecutive Dean Smith Award as Carolina’s MVP, broke all-time school records for three-pointers and free throw percentage and ACC records for games played and double-figure scoring games. Freshman Drake Powell became the 55th Tar Heel selected in the first round of the NBA Draft.
