Oh Jesus, there's no reason to harass a literal actual child. The people harassing Desmond and their mother are way more damaging to them than Desmond's parents. Imagine threatening a child in public. Horrifying.
Children have agency. Children can make choices, but the parents must choose to listen to them or not.
when Maurie said that the hardest part was laughing it off. this gave me insight into how I myself had needed someone to say: "We dont have to laugh about that, its ok." what a kindness we can give someone by just acknowledging that we might not know how how to react to something but by just giving it space. showing the other person that we care about their experience enough not to need it to be smoothed over with laughter. thank you for this episode. very moving and inspiring. ❤
