In March of 1973, Holly and Gerald Fitzgerald were lost, starving and on the brink of death in the middle of Bolivia. The first leg of their planned honeymoon around the world was almost their last, as they fought for their lives atop of raft amongst a flooded jungle. Their love for one another and desire for a shared future kept them alive for 26 days until, of all things, a monkey led to their rescue. In August of 1976, twin brother Jim and Jack Weiner and their friends Chuck Rak and Charlie Flotz embarked on a two-week camping and canoeing trip to the Northwoods of Maine. Several days into their trip they experienced something they couldn’t explain– and it would be over a decade until the truth of that night truly came to light. On October 22, 2024 a legacy ended when Grizzly 399 was hit by a car and killed. She was the most beloved bear in the world and the oldest known grizzly to bear cubs in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. She gained popularity when she strategically raised her cubs by the roadways and tolerated human interaction. In this episode we tell her story, the legacy and impact she left on the conservation world, and the problems that her habituation has had and will continue to cause. Hang out until the end of the episode where we have special trail tales from listeners who had the opportunity to see her in the wild. When two dangerous convicts escaped from a Florida prison they kidnapped a woman and fled to Mississippi. During the ensuing manhunt for the prison escapees, Florida park ranger Robert McGhee was tragically murdered while on duty. In the years that followed, devastated and angered by the events leading to her husband's death, his wife petitioned and lobbied for change within the prison system. A universal desire to have just five more minutes to convey our love to those who we have lost has been in existence for as long as humans have. For most of time, those wishing to connect with the deceased relied on mediums, until two of history’s most brilliant minds added science to the equation in hopes of inventing a diret line to the other side. Some histories are lost with time, but remnants of their existence remain. Off an unmarked trail within the park, sits an old abandoned cabin that in its hay day was a popular place for tourists to visit. It was once filled with people from around the world, coming to see Anna Wolfrom’s famous Tea Room for themselves. Anna managed to open a hugely successful business in a time it was not common for women to do so, but she didn’t stop there. Remnants of her entrepreneurial spirit remain scattered around Estes Park and the country. Dr. Herr is now working on creating a bionic leg, the first of its kind that would allow amputees to use their brain to control their prosthetic, so far test have shown that this bionic leg is the first that allows amputees to walk at a pace on par with those without amputations and also to change speed. After being told he would never climb again he also created prosthetic legs that did allow for him to climb and keep up with others climbers who have all of their limbs. How amazing!

I can't say what say what I really think... Heartbreaking & devastating how self-centered, instant gratification and entitled our society has always been, but continues to grow to a degree that I truly can not comprehend. My friend calls these people the "Me, I's of the world." Sometimes, I wonder if we have passed a point of no return across the board when it comes to what is prioritized in this world. there is a food chain on this globe we call planet earth, and we're part of it. likeitornot.

It isn’t weird at all that you end up feeling compassion for an elderly crying man. Even if he were guilty, he is still a person — not a monster. And having compassion is a human response. Nothing adds up here. The amount of plausible deniability you have to apply to convince yourself of his guilt is ridiculous. This poor man is clearly not guilty.

Ladies, further research shows something way creepier about the Andrew Cunanan story! Cunanan grew up in California, not in New Jersey, BUT one of his victims was the caretaker of the cemetery that the creepy guy had walked down to visit before his chat with the storyteller. YIKES!
