RIP Rob Reiner

On episode 110 of Native Land Pod, hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers reflect on the life of famous Hollywood producer, director, actor, Rob Reiner.    Tiffany and Andrew knew Rob, and all of our hosts were affected by his work ever since his first role as Meathead in All In The Family. We’re going to tell some Rob stories, and yes, talk about the shocking comments that Trump made about Rob and his wife Michele after they were found dead in their homes, with their son arrested on suspicion of their murder. How do the conservative Christians square this stunning lack of empathy?      The coach of the Michigan University football team, Sherrone Moore, was fired recently for having a relationship with a subordinate. After he was fired, he had a pretty serious crash-out that landed him in jail. Our hosts share some of their most epic crash outs and discuss whether Moore’s affair partner should also face consequences from their employer.    The shooting at Brown University last week left two dead, nine wounded, and the entire student body rattled. This one hit close to home; Angela’s godson, Efe Elaiho, is a freshman at Brown and was nearby the shooting. We’ll get a firsthand perspective on what it’s like to live through an event like this, the misinformation that flies around in the moments after, and what it’s like going through a school system where shootings have become tragically common.    We’re trying to be better about getting to your questions and comments y’all, and we will get to one about patriotism today!    Renaei Bluitt’s Holiday Gift Guide: https://guides.shedidthat.co/   If you’d like to submit a question, check out our tutorial video: http://www.instagram.com/reel/C5j_oBXLIg0/ and send to @nativelandpod.    We are 320 days away from the midterm elections. Should We Give Up the Fight for Reparations? | Angela Rye SoloPod

On this week’s SoloPod, Angela Rye is joined by Damario Solomon-Simmons to discuss Mother Fletcher’s passing. Viola “Mother” Fletcher was one of the last survivors of the Tulsa Massacre and (with Damario’s help) a powerful advocate for reparations. Damario walks us through the ongoing fight for reparations PLUS a call to action for your holiday season: capture your families oral histories. We’ll get some tips on how to be intentional about asking your elders about their past.    You can pre-order Damario’s debut book, Redeem A Nation, where books are sold.    Attorney Damario Solomon-Simmons is a civil and human rights attorney, movement strategist, and author. He is the Founder and President of Justice for Greenwood and serves as legal counsel for the last known living survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. His work prompted the first-ever U.S. Department of Justice review of the massacre, helped secure the City of Tulsa’s $105 million Greenwood Trust, and played a key role in restoring citizenship rights to Black Creek Indians.    CORRECTION: Mr. Solomon-Simmons states in this episode that reparations have been paid by the U.S.A. to the "State of Israel." Mr. Solomon-Simmons has alerted NLP that that is not factual, he meant "Holocaust Survivors."   Want to ask Angela a question? Does Tiffany Still Have Fans? | MiniPod

On today’s MiniPod, Bakari Sellers, Angela Rye, and mostly Tiffany Cross answer some of your questions.  A lot of our fans had smoke for Tiffany this week (and some love). The Long Game feat. Elie Mystal

On episode 109 of Native Land Pod, hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers discuss Jasmine Crockett’s campaign launch, and bring on one of our favorite guests: Elie Mystal.    Racial profiling, birthright citizenship, executive power, and campaign finance are all up for judgement by the US Supreme Court. There’s no one better to walk us through SCOTUS’s recent and upcoming decisions than the Justice Correspondent for The Nation, Elie Mystal.    Elie on Executive Power: https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/supreme-court-ftc-slaughter/   Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX 30) is running for senate in Texas in 2026. There’s a lot of chatter out there about her announcement, that she’s a Republican plant, that she can’t win–and it’s true that it’s tough for a Dem to win a senate seat in Texas. Our hosts take a critical look at the media coverage of her announcement and speculate on a possible path to victory.    We’ll get to more of your questions this week, including one about legacy media’s complicity in the Trump administration's agenda. A lot of y’all had smoke for Tiffany in the questions this week, we’ll get to those in our MiniPod.    Read More about the recent SCOTUS cases–    Racial Profiling: https://www.scotusblog.com/2025/09/supreme-court-allows-federal-officers-to-more-freely-make-immigration-stops-in-los-angeles/   Birthright Citizenship: https://www.scotusblog.com/cases/case-files/trump-v-barbara/   Campaign Finance: https://www.scotusblog.com/cases/case-files/national-republican-senatorial-committee-v-federal-election-commission/   Federal Agency Independence (Executive Power): https://www.scotusblog.com/cases/case-files/trump-v-slaughter-2/ Check out the Council of Negro Women: https://ncnw.org/ And congratulations to A’Ja Wilson for winning TIME’s Athlete of the Year!    If you’d like to submit a question, check out our tutorial video: http://www.instagram.com/reel/C5j_oBXLIg0/ and send to @nativelandpod.    We are 329 days away from the midterm elections. Revenge of the "Shithole" Countries?! Feat. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar

On episode 108 of Native Land Pod, hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers are repping the “shithole” countries with our esteemed guest, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.     The US military keeps bombing boats in the Caribbean without providing evidence of wrongdoing. A recent “double-tap” strike was a violation of international law REGARDLESS of what crimes were alleged. Is there any chance that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth (and all those in the chain of command) will be held liable for these war crimes?    The president called for the DEATH of Democrats who encouraged soldiers not to follow illegal orders. Meanwhile, Bakari was tossed on a CNN panel to debate whether or not the US government has the right to kill anyone it pleases with the wife of the most infamous white nationalist in the White House, Katie Miller. What’s the responsible way for newsrooms to cover current events when extremists are hijacking the conversation?        Our guest today is Representative Ilhan Omar (MN 5), who was the target of a deranged and racist rant by President Trump this week (he’s obsessed with her). Rep Omar was born in Somalia, and so Trump is now intent on taking out his psychopathic hatred toward Omar on the entire Somali-American community. There are reports that he plans to target Somali-Americans with ICE raids and revoke their immigration status wherever possible–even taking away their US citizenship if he can.    In response to one of your questions the hosts give tips on how to engage your non-political friends. Disillusion with the political process is rampant. Megyn: Don’t Touch My Hair! | Angela Rye SoloPod

On this week’s SoloPod, our guest is Dr. Adjoa B. Asamoah, leader of the CROWN act movement, which recently saw yet another victory in Pennsylvania.    The Pennsylvania CROWN act, and others like it, classify protective hairstyles (like braids and dreadlocks) as a racial characteristic. That makes it illegal to forbid those hair styles at schools and in work places.     Michelle Obama has been outspoken lately about the need to protect our hair, much to the chagrin of rightwing media personality and biggest Karen on Earth: Megyn Kelly.    Want to ask Angela a question? Welcome Home, Marc

On episode 107 of Native Land Pod, hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers are joined by renowned academic and multi-platform journalist, Marc Lamont Hill.    Marc Lamont Hill hosts UpFront for Aljazeera and is a co-host on The Joe Budden Podcast. He’s been a commentator for outlets from CNN to BET and has made remarks before the United Nations on the Israel-Palestine conflict. You can check out his work and support him at https://www.patreon.com/cw/MarcLamontHillOfficial   Nicki Minaj was at the U.N. calling for an end to targeted anti-Christian violence in parts of Africa. We’re happy she cares–and we wish she’d do a little more research, it’s not as if it’s ONLY Christians being targeted. Our hosts chat with Marc Lamont Hill about events on the continent.    Mamdani met with Trump in the Oval Office at the end of last week and had a rather chummy press conference with the president he repeatedly called a “fascist.” Our hosts have diverging opinions on the relevance and meaning of this moment, was this bad optics or cunning politics?    Rankin County jail guards filmed themselves mocking and torturing a Black inmate with intellectual disabilities, rewarding him with a coca-cola after electrocuting him for fun. Some incidents are so horrific we have to pause and ask: Why? What is the meaning of this?     NFL quarterback Shadeur Sanders started in his first NFL game last Sunday. The rookie already has a reputation for being cocky–even by the standards of professional sports players–and made some comments after the game that turned heads.   If you’d like to submit a question, check out our tutorial video: http://www.instagram.com/reel/C5j_oBXLIg0/ and send to @nativelandpod.    We are 344 days away from the midterm elections. It’s Power Not Partisanship

On episode 106 of Native Land Pod, hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers discuss...    President Trump has been under enormous pressure to release the Epstein Files.  Republicans–who wanted the files released under President Biden–are now twisting themselves into knots trying to protect Trump’s reputation. Democrats are also finding themselves mentioned more than they’d like in what’s been released thus far. As it turns out, proximity to power knows no partisan bounds. MAYBE having transparency into the crimes of the most infamous pedophile in modern history is good in-and-of itself and should never have been a partisan issue…   Trump’s DOJ never misses an opportunity to engage in more injustice with the latest being federal prosecutors pushing to release one of Breonna Taylor’s killers. Ben Shapiro and others are also advocating for the release of Derek Chauvin, the officer who murdered George Floyd. AND   Our guest today is the Attorney General of Massachusetts, Andrea Campbell. AG Campbell  has been a leader in the push back against the Trump administration having filed more than 40 lawsuits to halt some of their dangerous actions. She led a group of AG’s in a lawsuit to release SNAP funds during the shutdown, and she’s been fighting to preserve DEIA initiatives in MA schools, and protect immigrants here legally on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) who have been getting picked up by ICE.    There’s a push in several red states to allow pregnant women to park in handicapped spaces. Sounds fine, right? When we take a closer look we see a classic far-right strategy to pit one group against the other, in this case, the disabled community vs. women. Tiffany Cross walks us through the nuance.    And of course we’ll hear from you! The Real Reason Democrats Caved

On episode 105 of Native Land Pod, hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers recap the end of the government shutdown.    Moderate Democrats in the Senate caved and passed a temporary budget without getting their demands met to continue funding health care subsidies. What the heck happened and what was the point of this record-breaking standoff that saw federal workers furloughed and the poorest Americans lose food assistance? It is not Democrats who “lost” the government shutdown, it is us, the American people, but it has made the Democrats look like losers.     MAGA is teeing up to rig the 2026 election. Reporter Ari Berman wrote an article this week about Trump's pardons for high-profile attorneys and others involved in his plot to overturn the 2020 election–but it’s not just about 2020. Ari’s reporting outlines what Trump’s likely path toward rigging 2026 will be, and the under-the-radar efforts by the Trump administration to fill the voting process with red tape (voter ID, ban voting machines, etc.), which Ari says the administration will use as a pre-text to claim that “millions of Americans voted illegally” in 2026.    Ari Berman is the national voting rights correspondent at Mother Jones. Read Ari’s article here: https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2025/11/trump-martin-fake-electors-pardon-2020/   And of course we’ll hear from you! Black Beef in These Internet Streets ft. Tiffany Cross

On this week’s (somewhat) SoloPod, Angela Rye is joined by renowned political commentator on Native Land Pod, our very own Tiffany Cross, to talk about these BEEFS between Black media outlets and figures.    There are mysterious forces driving wedges between Black media figures who represent various factors of the Black community. We gotta have a meta conversation about what’s driving these beefs. For example, Roland Martin recently criticized Charlamagne for using his platform (The Breakfast Club) to call for an end to the government shutdown.    Are famous Black media figures obligated to strategize together for the good of the Black community?   Want to ask Angela a question? Can America Move Beyond the Two-Party Trap? | MiniPod

On this week’s MiniPod, our hosts Angela Rye, Tiffany Cross, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers are joined by Maurice Mitchell, the National Director of the Working Families Party for a conversation on breaking the two-party system and getting corporate (and AIPAC) money out of politics.    The WFP is a political party aimed at taking power from the rich and powerful, and putting it in the hands of the working class through a broad multi-racial coalition. They run their own candidates AND run candidates through Democratic Party primaries, candidates who have fought for higher wages, a fairer criminal justice system, getting big money out of politics, and more.    If you’d like to submit a question, check out our tutorial video: www.instagram.com/reel/C5j_oBXLIg0/   Welcome home y’all!    —--------- We want to hear from you! Election Recap: Did America Just Pivot?

On episode 104 of Native Land Pod, hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers go through this week’s election results and take an account of how our Black candidates (and voters) performed.     The race for NYC’s mayor dominated the airwaves, where Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani won. BUT there were other important races. Black mayors were elected across the country, the governor race in Virginia and New Jersey went solidly Democratic, and State-level elections in the South saw typically conservative seats flip blue. Folks are wondering if Mamdani is the new “face of the Democratic party” which WE think is missing the point.    NLP is joined by President Biden’s former press secretary (the first Black woman to hold the job) Karine Jean-Pierre to discuss some of the election results and Democrat’s media strategy. In her new book, Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside Party Lines, Karine shares some pointed critiques of a party she no longer identifies with, and our hosts ask some pointed questions of Karine.    And our hosts respond to your questions! There’s an interesting one about infiltrating the Republican party and another from a chef asking who is keeping our legacy “recipes.”    If you’d like to submit a question, check out our tutorial video: http://www.instagram.com/reel/C5j_oBXLIg0/ and send to @nativelandpod.    We are 362 days away from the midterm elections. OMG! I'm screaming from Atlanta! I LOVE this podcast! I just paused my utube of this episode to comment. You are ALL brilliant! I am laughing at AR's VP pick, although I, too, love him! however, I agree 💯 with AG on his choice. The Pennsylvania pick. Strong contender for me. Off topic, Tiffany, I love your podcast! It's a great concept! Keep informing us on both platforms. Rosella (Atlanta)

I am so happy that this podcast exists. Thank you for sharing the knowledge that is needed. I love that you also hold both parties accountable. Andrew, I love how you are so bold to publicly say, I'm human! I am a forever listener of you all individually and as a collaboration.
